Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get my first board. I'm 20yo and 145-ish lbs--size 10 to 10½ shoes. From what I've seen, I need something from 7.5 to 7.625.

I really don't want to drop too much into it because I have a bad track record of spending way too much on hobbies I decide to not pursue. I've been doing my research, and know what to look for (quality-wise). I'm looking to spend $50 or so for a complete. Nothing fancy. A high quality blank would be fine. Are they any Black Friday deals I should look out for? Here's what I'm looking at so far:

POSITIV Team Complete Skateboard ($59.46): The reviews look really good for the price. It looks durable and high quality. Not sure of the brand, though.

Krown Rookie Skateboard Complete 7.5 ($31.00): I love this damn board. I know it is a lot cheaper, and you get what you pay for, but I like the graphic far more than anything in my price range (I know, I know, don't buy a board for its graphic). That being said, the build quality seems pretty damn good and the brand looks reliable(?). The only problem I found was the bearings were garbage. It's so cheap, though, I'd still have it in my budget to get some.

ENJOI Skateboards WHITEY PANDA Complete SKATEBOARD ($69.99): This looks like the safest option--but also the most expensive. Everywhere I looked said the brand is good quality. Again, though, I really don't want to spend this much.

Any opinions on each of these brands? I don't really care about having a walmart board as long as the build quality is there.

Q: What are the trucks and wheels?A: fattie hawgs wheels , bear trucksBy skatesusa on December 15, 2015

By Aman Damás on June 25, 2019 Smooth ride, super cool look, awesome wheels. Although my wheels came in marble even though I ordered the above with black wheels. It still looks good with the white marbled ones. I do like the look of the black ones though. see less

I'm getting a Darkstar board pretty soon (next payday, also first board) and was wondering how good the company actually is compared to sect 9, globe, landyachtz or Atom brands. I have a friend whoes been skating for 5+ and says it's a good entry. What's your take on it? Wether it be good or bad I want to know what I'll be getting into. for 60 bucks prebuilt completes are you best bet. A custom board is better. Prebuilts use cheaper everything to keep the price down. The quality isn't terrible depending on the brand. Just stick to brand with a rep and track record.

Hey! Okay so I'm a university student and I was looking into buying a longboard to get around easier; I'm also pretty broke. I recently bought a Madd Gear penny board and had a few quick questions. One is if I should buy any new bearings/wheels/trucks? I'm new to any type of boards so I'm not well informed when it comes to that! Also the trucks squeak when I change my weight on the board to turn, if there's anything to help with that? The reason I bought the board was because it was cheap and I just really wanted to learn how to ride! Here's the link to the board, thank you in advance to any help! http://www.amazon.com/Madd-Gear-Translucent-Retro-Skateboard/dp/B0095T37CA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

u/The_Ethernopian · 1 pointr/NewSkaters

Yeah, I think I've narrowed it down to 2 boards.

  • Blind Kenny Complete: which is the cheaper of the 2 boards, but will probably be a better fit for him right now, but need to be replaced sooner.
  • SkateXS Purple Panda: which costs twice as much and will be a little big for him, but will last him longer.

Currently the plan is to take him to the first week of lessons on the borrowed 7.25" and see how he likes it and then decide from there.

    EDIT: words

If you're interested in street skating this is what I used to get back into it. 7.5 means the board is light and easy learn with, also "flip" boards are known for pop. here I am playing around with it. I'm by no means any good, just love being on the board

u/Bbwalldude · 1 pointr/NewSkaters

I bought this one for my very first skateboard

It was $50 total from bikesomewhere, and it's amazing. I had to replace the grip because it was really bad, but other than that, it's a great setup. Bushings and bearing were decent and deck had good pop. I still use the wheels too

I'd suggest not getting a mini cruiser. Smaller boards are less stable and you can't really gain a bunch of speed comfortably. I ended up giving my friend my mini cruiser (which I got for under $40), and I got this board instead. It was on sale for for ~$60. The stock bushings are trash, but the shape and wheels are doing it for me, especially for that price. Landyachtz is the go to suggestion for cruisers, specifically their Dinghy. Personally, I'm not huge on the shape because I like larger boards for cruising. I have a street/cruising hybrid that's an 8.3 Zero popsicles deck. I think I'm going to get a Welcome square tailed deck for my next cruiser.

Also cruisers are considered longboards, so check out /r/longboarding and longboard websites.

Oh alright then. I'll go with this board which I also found pretty cool. I only had the budget for 1 or the other and thank you guys for helping me

u/Bodyfreak_ · 1 pointr/longboarding

Hello folks of /r/longboarding! Now I've recently come into the sport of longboarding, and at this point am just having a blast riding around the city and getting up to no good. However, getting more and more into longboarding, I realize how little I know. Basically, I was wondering if someone could give me the low-down of what my board could do? (link at the bottom?) I have the fairly basic idea that it is a cruising board, but is there any hope for me to get into other aspects of longboarding with what I currently have?

Thanks a bunch!

Thank you for the reply, and considering what you have said, I have found these options. Is GLOBE a good brand to buy from? Also, I will be buying a whole board, because I can't risk not being able to have all the parts/not being able to put it together before I leave (7 days). Also, I am resorting to using amazon because of the fact that I have Prime and get free shipping. So, I have found a bunch from GLOBE (I actually tried out one of these in the store and liked it, but what do I know haha). Here are links to what I have found, do these look ok?

I see. Well I just did some youtube research and cruisers does seem like the board for me. I couldnt differentiate the difference between a cruiser and a nickle board, but I saw some videos suggesting nickle boards are nice for beginners.

Anyways, I found this on Amazon. What do you think? Of course not a permanent board, but looking for a board that can help me learn quicker; to cruise around with, nothing fancy.

Alright I'm not even sure if this the right place to post this, so if it's not someone tell me and I'll delete it.

I'm looking for a longboard/cruiser for college. Not going to be doing downhill, just from class to class around campus. I'm trying to stay around 34-38in and trying to keep the cost low. Also all I have right now and what I learned to ride on is a penny board. I had been looking and researching for a while. I was set and ready to buy a kryptonics board until my friend said he thought they made cheap Walmart boards. I had seen mixed reviews, good and bad about kryptonics. Now I'm on the fence and don't really know what to do or what board to go for. Any help or advice is very appreciated.

Ive got a Sector 9 shown here: http://www.amazon.com/Sector-Lookout-Complete-Skateboard-Assorted/dp/B00U8O7BEQ?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I switched the bearings I had with standard Reds and was thinking about changing the wheels as well.

Im pretty new and use it mostly for cruising and bombing hills.

Cant slide yet and probably wont be comfortable trying for a while.

What wheels if any do you all recommend?
Thanks!

u/murphy1124 · 3 pointsr/teenagers

I'm also 17, I started around 13 and haven't really skated much since Summer 2014, so I have a good bit of experience.

Do not buy a cheap board, for your first I suggest a complete. Something like this is fine. And then upgrading it as you improve. I would personally chose bearings or wheels first.

Fell free to ask any questions.

u/evilmunkey8 · 1 pointr/OldSkaters

Lol thankfully it is not. It’s this one https://www.amazon.com/MINORITY-32inch-Maple-skateboard/dp/B06XWX7RF6?th=1&psc=1 and it’s got pretty solid reviews for that price range though admittedly I didn’t spend a ton of time shopping around.
