>Any ideas why?

Surely anyone regularly using a dedicated stopwatch nowadays would prefer a digital one like this, which is superior in every practical way (accuracy/features/cost/reliability/weatherproofing/etc)

Tabata is an excellent protocol and very versatile! I'd like to add , if I may, get a gym boss timer. Its my most used piece of equipment and incredibly valuable for Tabatas or any type of interval from basic to complex

Phone is going great. I went to leave work the other day (where I would usually check my phone every 10 minutes) and when I got in my truck I saw my phone sitting there. The thought of checking it hadn't crossed my mind in 8 hours. I was absolutely ecstatic. I've seen a lot of improvements in the past month so far, less video watching, less browsing reddit, imgur, facebook. I've been reading more, working out more consistently, practicing bass guitar. Quitting my smartphone was a catalyst to a lot of other things in my life.

As far as the timer, I went and checked my workout timer and realized it had a vibrate function. I've been using that ever since. (by the way if you do interval workouts this thing is amazing)

I bought one of these Lap Counters It works really nice. It slips around your finger and you press the button with your thumb during a flip turn. I got the one that also keeps time for me. I really love it.

Back when I was using a mechanical, one time I got home from a tournament and noticed that someone had moved the little adjustment levers - one all the way slow and the other all the way fast. After I re-calibrated them I put a sticker over the access slots.

It would be fairly difficult to make an electronic clock fast on one side and slow on the other. easier would be to make it slower or faster overall (which could benefit a player who plays quickly or who often runs out of time). It would be easy enough to test the clock when you start with a stopwatch. I like this model because it is simple - no "laps" or split time features:

I do PHUL so on strength days I try to make sure I'm resting for a solid 2-3 minutes between sets. For a while I was timing my sets with a Gym Boss, but I left it at the gym a month ago and nobody turned it in, so now I look at the clock in the gym or sometimes use my phone if I want to be exact when hitting new numbers. With hypertrophy I go as soon as I feel like I can make 10 again, so I can easily get 2 sets done with the same song playing.

Another plug for Intervals Pro. For this purpose, it's a great workout app.

(Another idea is to get a workout timer like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BR380O2 )

u/splott · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

Which, FYI, comes as either an app for phone or an actual independent device. :)

i used this stopwatch all four years of debate and still use it, i love it.

u/rogueknits · 1 pointr/Fitness

It's not an app, but if all you want is a programmable timer, the Gymboss Minimax should work. I think you can have 20 different saved programs of up to 25 different intervals. Amazon link

u/cuddlyfrog · 1 pointr/flexibility

I started looking at apps (Android) a few months ago, but none of them impressed me. Ended up buying a dedicated interval timer. $16 from Amazon. Only 2 intervals though; so may not work for you.

https://www.amazon.com/Gymboss-Interval-Timer-Stopwatch-SOFTCOAT/dp/B00CO8HO6O

Otherwise, this webapp allows for custom intervals & rounds.

u/wbyf · 2 pointsr/weightroom

Oops. Try this one

If that doesn't work, it's the gymboss interval timer. I'm sure any of the cheapo timers on Amazon would work fine, that's just the one I actually own

u/Tomahawke99 · 1 pointr/Sprinting

I would definitely recommend buying a cheap stopwatch for timing splits. For <20$ you can get one that is durable, accurate, and will last a very long time. Way more convenient than wearing a wristwatch IMO; you don't have to worry about damaging it (through exposure to sweat), charging it, and physical buttons>touchscreen (your thumb will already be on the button while running therefore more accurate results).

This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.ca/MARATHON-Digital-Stopwatch-Display-Resistant/dp/B014L4TXPS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=stopwatch&qid=1558365314&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

Seiko S321 Stopwatch - if it's the same one that I have, it looks like any other cheap Fisher Scientific chinese knockoff, but it's not. I got this as a gift and it survived five years in a chemistry lab and then another >ten years of use as a kitchen timer. Until I got a Seiko I destroyed four or five cheap timers at the rate of one every three months - mostly buttons worn out but also solvent spills, drops on the floor, banging/scraping against walls, water spills, hot plates.

Yes, it's ~$140, and yes, it's made out of plastic. Just feel the button quality compared to the mushy buttoned disposable kitchen timers you've replaced over and over and over - if you've ever ruined something by having a timer not start when you pressed a button, you'll know why these are necessary.

u/jimjimjim85 · 1 pointr/weightroom

This One is what i have.

u/cassiduh · 1 pointr/dailydabbers

this is what I use? It's as fine as any stop watch. I much prefer having it to using my phone.

u/Beerificus · 2 pointsr/submarines

I can only find the Radio Shack one out of stock...
http://www.amazon.com/Radio-Shack-63-5017-Stop-Watch/dp/B00112BQ7W/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Not sure if it's even the correct one. Do you have a picture? Or link or anything?

u/makoivis · 2 pointsr/Fitness

No, but I don't keep it in my pocket: it lives in the training hall and is velcroed to the wall. I don't doubt it would break if it rattled around in a bag.

Gofit Go timer

Cheap as dirt, super-easy to use. Slide the periods, knock in a bunch of sets, press start.

Mostly we just use the 2min on 2min off setting: half the group bouts, the other half rests. We've also used digital egg timers, just having the coach press "start" at each interval.
