Below are my recommendations (in no specific order)

u/WrathofAtlantis · 2 pointsr/selfpublish

Here is my recently self published novel: Wrath Of Atlantis. US $25.99 https://www.amazon.ca/Wrath\-Atlantis\-Paper\-our\-Flesh/dp/177528090X There are also two cheaper split Book I/Book II versions right besides it, at $14.99 and $15.99. Book I is available for $3.99 on Kindle. It is about a sub-terranean book-obsessed civilization learning that we are moving away from books, towards digitalization, and launching -as a result- a military raid essentially designed to counter-act this, which they see as part of an intellectual decline called "The Cognitive Spiral", a "cognitive" disease so fearsome they are not allowed to talk to us... I will just include a short excerpt here: "Reading is love." I reformulated, somewhat bemused by this turn of the conversation. "Reading is love Mr. Sherwood. And if you find yourself short of time, now you know why."

Helps that Timothy Zahn (the original author that created Thrawn) is advising them for the character, and wrote a book to go with the new canon.

u/darksaber522 · 3 pointsr/StarWars

Well it will depend on your definition of 'Affordable'.

Under 30$

Funko Pop's! A good choice for <12$. And there's a wide variety of characters to choose from.

Thrawn is a good re-introduction to one of the most memorable Star Wars villains.

Battlefront II: Inferno Squad serves as a companion piece to the new game coming out next week.

Over 30$

Smuggler's Bounty Box A subscription box by Funko. One Box =25$ 12 month subscription (6 boxes) =150$

LEGO Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter You're never too old for LEGO! Also Available: BB8, Resistance Bomber, First Order Heavy Assault Walker

Battlefront II Might be a good choice if your kids are into gaming. I've played the beta, and loved it despite some flaws. But be forewarned, this game has been getting slammed online for it's loot-box/progression system. Also available on Playstation 4 & PC

Black Series Helmets

Stormtrooper shown. Poe Dameron, Shadow Trooper & Kylo Ren are also available.

Black Series Lightsaber

Darth Vader shown. Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Kylo Ren are also available.

A Custom-made Lightsaber:(Very pricey!)

Ultrasabers, Vader's Vault, Saberforge

This historical novel is as accurate as it can be while remaining a novel. The author provides the list of inacuracies at the end. This book tackles the same topic and I remember really enjoying it. I definetly recommend it and it is accurate as well, I just feel like the first one affected me more. Other than that, there are obviously historical documents that give you the information in academic way, rather than storywise, but I'm not fan of those, I prefer historical novels.

I also just found this document issued by the Czech government that compiles the informations with pictures, maps and everything. I haven't read it, but I'd assume it's accurate based on the publisher.

u/NRA2000 · 2 pointsr/Libertarian

I just posted on this topic. Well sort of. My new favorite Libertarian book is called "Dominatus". Had it suggested to me about a month ago and have been talking it up ever since.

After
A postapocalyptic novel.
Price: $7.50 (e-book).

Alice Greenly returns home from her first year of college to discover Edward, a wealthy survivalist, has purchased a home on the outskirts of her small town. At first she believes him to be an eccentric – but as atomic war breaks out, it falls to Edward to help Alice and her family to flee the irradiated wasteland that her home state has become. In their escape, they are forced to contend with the privations of post-apocalyptic life and do battle with looters, highwaymen, and gangs until they arrive and settle at the town of Holmes, whose inhabitants managed to survive the apocalypse, and even establish a measure of civilized living, with the help of an organized group of survivors known only as the Outriders. But though the Outriders appear to benevolent protectors, not all is as it seems.

u/skroobman · 13 pointsr/BattlefrontMemes

https://www.amazon.com/Thrawn-Star-Wars-Timothy-Zahn/dp/0345511271 gonna go out on a limb and say it's even better than the original trilogy. Same author though - but now its cannon!

u/internet_enthusiast · 2 pointsr/whatsthatbook

Sounds like Germline by T.C. McCarthy

u/rhilbell · 2 pointsr/tipofmytongue

Sounds a little like the Valor Confederation books by Tanya Huff. The first one is Valor's Choice

u/DysthymicAndManic · 2 pointsr/pics

yep! I'm assuming UK lol but just change your location if need be.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/printSF

Germline!

http://www.amazon.com/Germline-Subterrene-War-Book-One-ebook/dp/B0047Y16NU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415591535&sr=8-1&keywords=germline

You definitely won't find ridiculous heroism and jingoism in Germline. It's extremely depressing and spot on - imagine a future setting where the war in Afghanistan turned into Dick Cheney's wet dream and was covered by Hunter S. Thompson. The author never served, but he definitely did his research into making the book a realistic depiction of military life.

It's a trilogy but, to be honest, I didn't get more than halfway through the second book. It's not that it was bad, but that the first book was more than intense enough.

u/Vertaflex · 1 pointr/writing

Figured I might as well self-promote my first book, published and available for purchase on Amazon.com!

The Fusion World Project : Philanthropy I

https://www.amazon.com/Philanthropy-Fusion-World-Project-Tamone/dp/1981024638/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525913068&sr=8-1&keywords=the+fusion+world+project

Paperback is available. Kindle will be available when I figure out how to do that. My apologies, I've only been a published author for two days.

If you're into parallel universes, science fiction, and espionage, you'll dig this.

Synopsis;
>When people get desperate enough, they will obey just about any body. War had devastated Vyndral, leaving it barren and without resources. Revolutionaries under the leadership of Captain Cain Clark use an ancient device capable of traveling to parallel dimensions, invading the peaceful world of Rafia to extract justice. When Clark’s plan seeks to end all life in the universe, a group of five philanthropists band together to take him on. But with an assassin on their tail, will they survive long enough to take a stand?

There is also a new canon book called Thrawn by the same author, Timothy Zahn.

u/azajay · 34 pointsr/reckful

You link this and not the book he wrote called Wreckful's Run?

u/AlexWIWA · 1 pointr/Stellaris

It's just called "Thrawn"

10/10

Thrawn

u/Incognito87 · 1 pointr/suggestmeabook

Check out Path of the Warrior. It's actually part of a trilogy. Followed by Path of the Seer and finally Path of the Outcast. The three books follow the same story that intertwines across three characters, and each one pushes a little bit further. I do know it comes in a complete collection called Path of the Eldar.

u/Zephyr256k · 4 pointsr/printSF

Ooh, I didn't know there were gonna be even more Thrawn books coming out, this is great news!

Anyway, the first book in the new trilogy is just called 'Thrawn'
followed by 'Thrawn: Alliances'
and concludes with 'Thrawn: Treason'

u/BroDameron_ · 5 pointsr/whowouldwin

In case you're not in the loop, I'm talking about this book: https://www.amazon.com/Thrawn-Star-Wars-Timothy-Zahn/dp/0345511271/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504637556&sr=8-1&keywords=Thrawn.

If you are arguing that this book isn't canon, I don't know what to tell you man.

u/RogueIslesRefugee · 7 pointsr/funny

Yup. Timothy Zahn has a book out in the new Disney canon, and I believe he is (or will be?) in Rebels. I've not caught up on that series (yes, yes, bad me), so I'm not sure on that part.

u/frownyface · 6 pointsr/giantbomb

When Dan says he could write the story for the sequel to this game, I believe him 100%.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CS88P40

I actually wonder if he *did* write this game's story, but was black-out drunk and doesn't remember it.

u/neropusmopus · 2 pointsr/booksuggestions

Thrawn, is an anti-hero in the Star Wars universe. His standalone book is really just set in the universe, only really contains the Emperor and Tarkin as characters you might know.

The original Thrawn Trilogy is why your description made me think of him, but he is the antagonist, so you mostly follow the protagonists. It is much more of a Star Wars book, reading Luke/Leias stories as they fight him, but he is always one step ahead. Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command.

You don't have to be a star wars fan to enjoy Thrawn, but the trilogy might take some admiration (but is still a good read).

The Good Men. An alternate-history story of war and bloodshed, set in the height of the Dark Ages.

In 1356, Sir Guy de Bocqueville follows whispers of a strange new heresy to an abandoned castle in southern France. He encounters the Good Men - a small charity sent from our time to better the brutal Middle Ages. Horrified by the technological wonders he perceives as witchcraft, he flees for his life to warn the world. In his chaotic wake, a new leader takes command of the Good Men. If the feudals won't accept the future willingly, he'll force them to... with the power of the bullet.

The armies of Christendom mobilize and desperately wage war against an enemy seven centuries more advanced than they.

Knights and soldiers, lords and kings, popes and peasants; all are sucked into the storm as Europe is set ablaze.

Currently a free eBook on Amazon! (Up to 2/13/19, after which the price reverts to $0.99) https://www.amazon.com/Good-Men-Matt-Turner-ebook/dp/B07NF5YWKP/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=the+good+men+by+matt+turner&qid=1549822646&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

I enjoyed the series. Trying to think of what to compare it too. Maybe Honor Harrington?
