  • Hi! I first want to thank you for this contest, which is amazing! Good luck to all who have entered here. Also, that potato is crazy creepy. ❤

  • UNREALISTICALLY I'd love to have either these for my husband or this for me. Those are both on my Only In Our Dreams list. Because who REALLY wants awesome dumbbells and a FitBit scale?!?

  • KINDA REALISTICALLY are these for me because who really needs that many Sharpies? I LOVE Sharpies. I WANT ALL THE SHARPIES, pleaseandthankyou. They are on my 'Coloring is Calming' list.

I never talk about what I want, so this is huge for me, haha. 💕💕

Sounds like it's time to get a new scale. I have just a cheap one from the grocery store, but it's been consistent. Some things I'd keep in mind when buying a new scale:

  • Make sure to get one rated for your approximate weight. If you think you could be around 400 pounds at the high end, then get one that goes up to 450 or 500 so that you have some room and you're sure it's weighing your correctly.
  • Make sure you zero/tare your scale if it's the type that needs to do that. When you get a new one it should come with instructions.
  • Weigh on a level, flat surface that is not carpeted. Always weigh in the same place.
  • Weigh at the same time of day in the same/similar type clothing/level of undress.

These will help you get more consistent results. I know that it can suck to realize that you may weigh more than you thought, but the truth is that no matter what that number is it's just one measure. If the number is higher it doesn't mean you actually gained 30 pounds in 2 weeks and it doesn't change how you look in those 2 weeks. It's just a number - one measurement of your body. Besides, this is a starting point. If you're 30 pounds up, that's 30 more pounds you can celebrate having lost at the end. You can do this - no matter what the number on that scale says.

As far as type of scale, here are some options that aren't too expensive that I found on Amazon. If I was getting a new one for your weight I'd likely pick one of these: 1 2 3 4
Just read through the reviews and see what one seems like it's got the best reviews.

I followed you. Ill be one of many cheering you on. :) Some thoughts- get on r/mealprep and/or r/mealprepsunday I find success for me to be very dependent on my ability to plan for the week.
My fitness pal is great for keeping track of food and getting on track.
I recently ordered a scale off amazon that Ive fallen in love with: it does bluetooth, charges usb, tracks weight bmi etc.

Lastly, if you have an iphone I would highly recommend happy scale app. Even the free version is good.

You can do it!

I use this model. The Amazon reviews are not good, but I've been very happy with it. I've used another model of Health-o-meter scale at my parents' house and haven't seen anything that would concern me with it either. They should be $20-30 at Wal-mart.

In the reviews, several people say that the numbers fluctuate and aren't consistent. That has not been my experience at all. I feel like they must not have their scales on a good hard surface or something. It's also possible that the battery was weak, as that's caused weird readings for me. These scales do have a memory built in, so that if you step off and back on, the scales will recognize that the weight is about the same, so they will just display the same number to give the illusion of higher precision. However, even when you defeat that "feature," they are very repeatable. I've also weighed myself fully dressed, on my way out the door to my doctor's office, and their scales were very close to mine (within a pound or so), so I trust the accuracy as well as the precision.

Just for fun, I grabbed a 15 pound weight to hold so I could clear the memory on my scales. I stepped on, recorded my weight, then stepped on with the 15 pound weight to erase my actual weight from memory, and repeated. I did this ten times. The measurements were:

  • 202.6
  • 202.8
  • 203.2
  • 202.2
  • 202.8
  • 202.8
  • 202.6
  • 202.6
  • 202.8
  • 202.8

That's plenty repeatable for me. After the two minor outliers early on, I made a point to wait 10 seconds between measurements, and my remaining measurements were all within 0.2 lbs.

Long story short, despite the negative reviews, I highly recommend Health-o-meter brand digital bathroom scales. Just make sure they are on a solid surface and the battery is good.

This one is only $13.99, and there's a 10% coupon for it. It goes up to 440 pounds, and has great reviews!

You'll definitely want to check out the stickies and browse around this forum a bit. It's pretty supportive and encouraging!

Working on fixing your eating/sleeping schedule seems to be high priority, so you might just need to force yourself to have breakfast and taper off the nighttime eating. It will help your sleep, too. (Unless you work overnights and have to be up super late.)

Check into food tracking apps like "Lose It!" or "My Fitness Pal." Just go for a few days and put all of your food in the app to see where you are calorie-wise. It will tell you how much you need to eat to lose weight.

Small steps that form permanent habits are the way to go. Keto is popular nowadays, but a lot of folks can't stick to it long term. (I certainly can't!) Start by swapping out your soda for water, and making your portion sizes smaller.

Baby steps that won't hurt is the key to long term success. If you have a serious addiction to soda, start by having one less can a day. It's all about moderation.

Hi there!
Congrats!
So, we're the same weight. You can do it! We can both do it!
I hated going to a clinic for my weight.. It was embarrassing for me! So I searched and searched for a scale. I don't know if this is okay to post, but I thought it might help.
This scale here:
http://www.amazon.com/Jobar-International-JB5824-Extra-Talking/dp/B004EFA6G0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408026078&sr=8-2&keywords=talking+scale

Is magical! It will weigh you. Just put it on a solid surface, like the bathroom floor. Plus it's only 28 dollars! Yes, it speaks loudly and repeats your weight twice.

It's just... so hard for me to stay motivated if I can't track my weight whenever I want. It's hard for me to figure out if what I'm doing works or not. So I bought it. I hope this helps, I know you weren't asking for it.

u/AgentWD40 · 1 pointr/Fitness

I purchased this scale from Amazon and it was complete junk. I had to be perfectly still for it to settle on a weight and it took like 7-8 seconds. If it didn't settle on a weight at that time, then it would shut off. I returned it and bought the Eat Smart one that you suggested and it works great. Seems very accurate and it quickly settles on a weight withing 2-3 seconds.

EDIT: And the scale that you listed comes with a neat little measuring tape device.

Weight Watchers by Conair Glass Body Analysis Scale https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002N5N336/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_mIVMub1T5FS00

I really don't understand the bad reviews because I LOVE this scale. My mom got one and then I did as well. The body fat % was actually about 1% or so less than my caliper measurements so that's awesome. I have had no problem with it being accurate when it comes to showing me my weight. It's a little tricky to setup but follow the instructions and you're golden. It stores your info such as height and you can have up to I think 4 users. I don't know, I really really like it and have zero complaints. Maybe people got lemons. I have two friends that each own one as well and love theirs.

u/cordial_carbonara · 1 pointr/loseit

I recently purchased this Smart Weigh scale and love it. It's accurate, simple, and is slim and easy to store. I've been using this OXO kitchen scale for a couple years now and have zero complaints. It's kind of pricey (I found mine half price at an outlet store), but I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it because I bake a lot (including breads) and it's never failed me. If you're looking for cheaper, my mom seems to get by just fine with this little guy. I wouldn't use it for big jobs or things that you need accuracy to the gram, but it works for casual use.

u/uberBored · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Something like this?

Probably would be best to get a plugged in scale. Then you'd hook up a pi to read those scales and display it however. I've had good luck running a flask server

There are a lot of ways to measure body fat:

And it works great

u/Bobbis2000 · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

That hurts a little but is probably true. (: I am using a Body Fat Scale which we all know isn't very scientific. This one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C6CUFM2/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_p5exCbYHZ5V5H

Thanks

u/lokisix · 3 pointsr/xxfitness

This is the one I have. There are others that also have body fat percentage as well (which I wish I had gotten).

Do you have access to a physical therapist? They will have exercises you can do to help with the pain. In the mean time, there are other great core exercises to do. Check out mat pilates for some - 100 breaths, v sits, etc all get my core going strong.

u/jbisinla · 0 pointsr/keto

Carbs are not the issue.

I would do the following:

  1. Make sure your scale is accurate and precise and get a better scale if it isn't, as if the thing you're using to measure yourself isn't giving you your actual weight, but is varying a few pounds each time, that's a sure route to frustration. I recommend the HealthOMeter balance beam scales, but that may be a bit spendy.

  2. Add more vegetables/fiber. Green veggies have a fairly inconsequential level of carbs, and will help your problematic digestion.

  3. Add fermented foods. Get some sauerkraut or kimchi from the refrigerated section of your local supermarket or health food store. Get the refrigerated stuff which has live probiotics. It's low-carb, and will help your gut biome readjust and get healthier. (It may also mellow you out if that's an issue.)

  4. Do the math on your food intake, don't just ballpark it. Get a kitchen scale if you don't have one and pull the nutrition data online and make sure you know the calories/macros exactly for every meal.

That's what I'd do, but YMMV.

I ordered this one from Amazon, and it was $20... but now is almost $24, so I'm glad I ordered it last night before that price hike. Really good reviews. And comes with a body tape measure, which is probably el cheapo, but whatevs, it'll work for now.

u/Baeocystin · 5 pointsr/keto

First off, congrats on the weight loss so far! 30-40 pounds is not trivial at all, and you should be proud of your work so far.

As for your question, at 470, your best bet is swimming, or other aquatic exercise.

You absolutely have to take care of your joints. There's no way around it. And at your current weight, the risk of injury is a real concern. You mention that your previous efforts have all been affected by this, and I'd hate to see you demoralized by another injury.

BTW, if you want a good bathroom scale that covers your weight range, the Taylor 550 goes up to 550 pounds. I have a different-model Taylor, and it works great.

I tried following the sub-reddits format but self-posts seem to be disabled which is why I'm posting the other deals here. The other scales on offer are the :

Ozeri ZB21-W WeightMaster with BMI and Weight Change Detection

Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scale with Electro-Mechanical Weight Dial

The deal is already embedded in the link so there's no need for a coupon code. Just make sure you pick Moderna Housewares as the seller when checking out.

My parents got me the Fitbit Aria 2 after my surgery since it links to my app and Fitbit watch. I really like it.

u/shmalloryrenee · 2 pointsr/loseit

I think the measurements help for sure. Of course it's still sooooo satisfying when I do lose weight, but the measurements help keep me from getting too mad when I'm not losing weight.

I got the fitbit aria 2 scale. I have a fitbit so I liked the idea of them linking up and being able to see the data in my fitbit app.

u/enziarro · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

Bummer.

Any chance this was the one you used to have? I haven't really found anything else that looks like it just does the change display...

Maybe something like this with electrical tape over all but the part of the display that shows your weight delta?

u/manjar · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

This scale really helps with that:

550 scale

u/NestorTookMyCoynes · 2 pointsr/keto

So I've been scale obsessing this week (which I guess is my third week, so sounds like there is some sort of expected slump anyway), but I noticed something this morning I hadn't noticed before. I have one of those fancy FitBit scales, and usually after it tells me my weight I get frustrated and walk away. This morning right as I was about to turn though, I noticed the body fat readout...and noticed that it had gone down by about half a percentage. So even thought the numbers aren't moving in the area I expected, I AM losing fat! This definitely made me feel so much better after wondering if I was doing something wrong these last couple of weeks!
