Fear cuts deeper than swords!

Grey Tribble!

Reminiscent of rain. If you turned a sound machine on and set it to "spring rain" and put this on you'd think your face was actually being caressed by gentle cooling drops of relaxing rain. :)

Weird food Haggis flavored chips. What? I love tasting new stuff. This intrigued me. :)

For my mom She loves horses. I once gave her an ornament with a horse on it that meant a lot to her. It's become sort of a tradition to get her an ornament as part of Christmas. This one is soo pretty. :)

Book! If you've watched the show I don't have to sell this too hard. :) I LOVE this show and really really want to read this book!

Less than $1. Technically... Digital delivery is a delivery method. It's not a food, polish, or anything to do with my hair. ;)

Cat related!

This key does nothing useful, but it looks awesome!

Across The Universe (movie). I had a friend who had the soundtrack. We listened to it pretty often. It's worth a watch just for the music alone, but it's a great watch. :)

Useful for zombies? Maybe? It's a knife that fits in your wallet like a credit card. It's at least a weapon that you could always have on you so you're ready at a moments notice. :) If only they made a credit card size folding flame thrower. ;)

Life changing. I need to be less fat... :/ This would definitely help.

Add on. My hedgehog loves these!

This is my second most expensive. My most expensive was the one for not being fat... lol. Before I used a wishlist I just added stuff to my cart and then saved it for later. This is the oldest item I've had stashed away. Every camping trip or competitive horse ride I went on with my mom/parents always involved sitting around the fire talking before heading off to bed. Whenever I get the chance to see them (we live in different states now) we still sit around a fire. This just reminds me of good times spent with family and essentially being home...

Bigger than a breadbox. For side table fishy times! :D

Smaller than a golfball. I'm obsessed with stars. I really love this ring. :)

Good smell! I bought the lotion and body spray on a whim when I was at the mall a while back. This stuff smells sooo good. It's like summer time!

Safe for work toy. These things look really neat. I saw them mentioned somewhere else and googled to see what they were. The video makes them look pretty cool. :)

I'm always late for class, but if I had a watch that I couldn't stop looking at I might just make it on time. ;)

Speaking of "can't stop looking at"... I'm obsessed with Doctor Who and David Tennant. :D

I added this to show someone else... I think it's crazy that they even make these. There's an appliance for everything! What beats fresh donuts anytime you want them? NOTHING! That's what... This is why I need that elliptical.. :P

Pm'd what I think is your name! :D

Oregon Cherries!

Sake is not actually "hard liquor", since it is not distilled. It is a rice wine, and usually has an ABV around 13-16%. If you're partial to sake, I would give shochu a try. Shochu can be made from barley, potato, rice, sugar, or buckwheat and from what I've sampled you can really taste a difference between these. While it is distilled, most I've seen are still only around 20-35% ABV, which makes them fairly light and crisp. I see people mentioned gin, and you might also like Genever, which is similar to gin(actually it is the origin/inspiration for gin), but has a bit more of a whiskey-like grain flavor, and the juniper is more subdued. Gin can also vary quite a bit, since it's basically a neutral spirit distilled with a custom mix of herbs & botanicals. So if you don't like one, that doesn't mean you won't like others. Traditional Dry London gin is usually heavy on juniper. For this style, I usually reach for Plymouth. Hendricks gin is another favorite. It's Scottish and has a crisp cucumber and rose petal flavor. Leopold's is an American gin and is a bit more citrus leaning than juniper.

Since you like red wines, you might also enjoy tawny port. Port tends to be sweet, but tawny is aged in oak for at least 2 years and loses some of the sweetness. These are essentially dessert wines, but I like to make an equal mix of port, sweet vermouth, and dry vermouth (or dry sherry) with a lemon twist. Still sweet, but the dry vermouth and lemon help curb that and the herbal flavors from the sweet vermouth adds some extra character.

I think the recommendation for an old fashioned is also good advice, but I would work with quality ingredients. I like to make mine with 2oz W.L. Weller Special Reserve, 2 heavy dashes Angostura bitters, either a demerara cube and 2 dashes of water or 2 dashes of demerara syrup (saves time). Add to a mixing glass the bitters and sugar+water/syrup. Muddle the cube until it is mostly dissolved. Add ice and the bourbon, and stir until mixed and chilled. Strain into a rocks glass with an ice cube(preferably a clear ice block), then twist an orange peel over the drink and drop it in. You can also add a cherry if you like, but I would recommend only using a Luxardo maraschino or Toschi amarena cherry since they aren't cloyingly sweet like the red-hot colored maraschino cherries and actually have a complex flavor that melds well with other ingredients. I know this might seem like I'm overdoing it, and trying to get this at many bars is a huge headache sometimes, but it's seriously way better than the typical old fashioned served with a bunch of small ice cubes, orange slice, and dyed candy cherry.

u/nutritionsteve · 1 pointr/nutrition

In my nutrition practice I've seen many people successfully quit sodas, with different people/personalities responding better to different methods. Overall, I find the hard switch to healthier alternatives (not diet soda) works best for most people. Plain, purified water is undoubtedly the most wholesome option, and can be infused with fresh mint, dried berries (good use of dried Gojis) or citrus juice and/or peels. For a decent analog to the mouthfeel of soda, I agree with those who recommend sparkling mineral water such as Perrier, San Pellegrino, La Croix -- even Dasani (Coke) now has a zero-sugar sparkling water for those on a tight budget. Saw 12-packs selling 3-for-$10 the other day ... Another important element in my opinion is to ensure your body is saturated with micronutrients, especially those involved in energy metabolism like the B vitamins. A multivitamin/mineral supplement that can be mixed with water is a great beverage to sip all day long. By taking very small doses of these nutrients you vastly improve your chances of absorbing them properly. In my opinion, Beyond Tangy Tangerine is the best product in this category. For caffiene, which may be important in the transition at least, another great product is Pollen Burst, which is a powdered drink mix with B vitamins and green tea, as well as caffiene. I personally use both of these products Monday-Friday to get through the work week. Finally, it helps to have a buddy to embark on this change along with you, that way you can support and encourage each other. This could be your spouse, a friend, co-worker, etc. Good luck!

Instead of cran juice, try using cran sauce; Not the jellied kind but the whole berry kind, like this. There are better. Check out Trader Joe's or your local fancy supermarkets.

  • 2 tablespoons cranberry sauce (more or less to taste)
  • 2 oz bourbon - Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond (white label) is a good, affordable choice.
  • Ginger ale or ginger beer - I highly recommend a good ginger beer here, like Bundaberg, Fever Tree, Q. If all you can find is Goslings, it'll be just fine.

Shake the cranberry sauce and bourbon hard (about 10 sec). Fill a 12 oz-ish glass with ice, pour in bourbon & cran and top with ginger beer (3-4 oz). Garnish with an orange slice, if desired. The whole cranberries also act as a garnish but the orange slice is nice.

    Have fun!

    ~Cheers

I would recommend something like amarena cherries, or luxardo cherries.

If you do fresh cherries they'll release a ton of liquid and sink. No good. Maraschino cherries are, well, not my favorite.

I would get either of the above, and I would drain them a little and if I felt like it, add some of that liquor to the souffle batter. Then I would chop or add whole as described above.

Good luck and hope it works well!

Not sure exactly where you are, but big warehouse liquor stores tend to carry the real Luxardo Maraschino Cherries—there’s also Amazon.

While you’re looking, take that rich, sweet, unctuous flavor from those cherries, make it earthier, drier, and woodier, and you’ve got my favorite liqueur: Luxardo Maraschino liqueur. Many describe the flavor as almond-like, but honestly, there’s nothing else like it. A staple for prohibition era cocktails and a fine aperitif/digestif on its own.

Hey, I've got a dairy allergy and I bake a lot. Earth balance makes some great products that you can substitute for butter in cakes (really, I do it and they turn out fine). That said, the best way to go about it is to make oil cakes. Here is one of my favorites: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/09/moms-apple-cake/

I've also made it substituting morello cherries for the apple + cinnamon, and added a dash of amaretto liquor, 'twas heavenly.

I'm not a fan of fruit in my beer, though I will drink one from time to time. That said, I'd use something like Oregon Fruit canned cherries- they've been pasteurized, they're easy to add to primary (which is totally fine, trust me), easy to find, cheap, and impart a lot of flavor.

Cheers!

I feel like everyone here is missing out on some pretty great cherries. Check out the Royal Harvest cherries that you can literally order off amazon and deliver happily to your house. 72oz of cherries that are LARGER than the Luxardo cherries for cheaper, especially for the little volume you get from Luxardo.

It is usually translated as pickled plums but it is salt cured Japanese plums. They are salty and have a bold unami flavor. Usually mixed in with rice as a condiment. I have heard of putting them in drinks like a pickled onion but never tried it.

Here is an example on Amazon but I normally get mine at a local import store.

Very popular in Japan. Where did you get the plums?

Strangely, dairy isn't an acne trigger for me, so I still eat cheese but rarely drink dairy milk. I prefer the taste and texture of almond milk (just on its own, unsweetened). I buy the "almond powder" type, and stir it in a cup of boiling water.

Depending on the product, there might be some variation in the nutritional benefits of almond milk, but generally: you will get a combination of Vit A, VIt D, Vit E, calcium, magnesium, and the healthy fats found in almonds.

I don't notice visible improvements on my skin, except that I'm a lot less acne-prone now (as long as I stay away from other dietary triggers, that is lol). I used to get acne from just not getting home on time to wash my face before the 12-hour time limit.

Just for lols: the offending cranberries. I did not expect the sugar content to be so high! I sometimes buy cranberry juice from that brand, and it was pretty good.

I got Native Forest brand organic canned jackfruit in water (well it has salt and lime juice too) from Whole Foods. Here's a link to it. I thought maybe I hadn't dries it enough, although I squeezed it pretty dry, or maybe that I could crisp it by frying it before adding the sauce? What do you think? I'm new to jack fruit so any advice would be great!

Just so you know, the jar's are a major waste. If you care to spend a little more upfront, you can save massively on this six and a half pound tin. About $0.22 per cherry and lasts for quite awhile; I've had mine for just over two years and I think I'm half done.

The 12 pound tin scales as well; it maths out to just under $0.21 per cherry. Well, using whatever you did to get your number - I had to reverse engineer it.

Great to know! Hopefully those stick around

If not, you can get luxardo cherries in giant cans. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YY4OU2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_C9FfAbSYHNWQ7

If you really want to crush the best Manhattan, get yourself a jar of Amarena cherries cherries. So much better than standard red food dye cherry.

They're admittedly a pain in the ass to find, but online from reputable sources would be my suggestion given that I don't know where you live. Luxardo is a well-trusted dealer and amazon is a trustworthy online store, so I'd say that. Otherwise, local higher-end grocery stores might carry them.

I hadn't dreamed of a can this big until I saw this post. I placed my order a few hours ago.

We'll see how long they last in a household of two. Good thing there is some Manhattan season left! After that, Two Dots and a Dash!

If all else fails, Amazon also carries a lot of the Shirakiku varieties. These in particular are what I have right now, though I purchased them locally: https://www.amazon.com/Hachimitsu-Umeboshi-Honey-Pickled-Plum/dp/B00886N4D8/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=shirakiku+umeboshi&qid=1554134852&s=grocery&sr=1-1

I know most stores refrigerate them, but being heavily preserved, they're pretty shelf stable...I know when I was visiting Hawaii, Longs (Walgreens) had them out on shelves with no refrigeration, and they were just fine...I flew some home with me cross country, and they didn't suffer in the least.

Amarena Cherries are also commonly used in cocktails though can be found in all sorts of cooking recipes. Personally, I prefer Amarena to Luxardo's. Fabbri is generally what you find behind most bars that use Amarena Cherries. The jar itself is reusable and much more attractive to have on display if that's your thing.

u/sideshow_em · 52 pointsr/TalesFromRetail

Exactly. Cherry pie filling is mostly sweet thickened syrup. Canned cherries are literally cherries.

Edited to add it's like comparing canned tomatoes with tomato sauce. They may have an ingredient in common, but they're totally different things.

u/reroll4tw · 1 pointr/Cooking

You can buy it from amazon for a decent price if you want to get a fe cans. We've used this brand a few times.

u/Maeler · 3 pointsr/todayilearned

You should get him some real maraschino cherries they will change his life. If you've ever been to high class bar they will use these and they are worth every penny. A Manhattan isn't the same without one of these.

I like Amarena Cherries but they aren't (much?) cheaper.

Well, if you're talking about recently - they've been hard to find because of some bad crop years out of Michigan, where 75% of the tart cherries in the US are produced. Harsh winters and early false springs have killed the blossoms and hurt the crop. 2012 was the worst crop in Michigan recorded history, apparently.

I have found frozen tart cherries at Costco in the last 6 months, I believe they were a Morello variety because they were dark colored. I've also found them in my local grocery store - but both times they were labeled organic fruit, so maybe your grocery stores are putting them in a different section? You can also get preserved Morellos in a jar from Trader Joe's - they've got a little bit of a different texture than frozen, but they'll do in a pinch. I've also heard fairly good reviews of the Oregon Fruit brand canned tart cherries in water, which you can get off amazon.

As a last resort, a lot of farms will overnight ship flash frozen tart cherries, if you're willing to pay the premium.

This is probably more tart cherry information than you ever wanted to know :)

Google thinks they are the same thing but led me to a fancy brand that aren't neon red and come in a 12LB can!!
