Great idea for a birthday party! I'm not sure any of these will appeal to you, but I'll suggest them for whatever it's worth:

If you like Townes Van Zandt (some think he's an acquired taste), Heartworn Highways is excellent. It also features Steve Earle and Guy Clark.

The Decline of Western Civilization was a really good documentary about the early punk scene in Los Angeles, but I don't think it's out on DVD yet.

If you have any interest in Latin music, The Return of Rubén Blades is interesting.

I've also heard that U2's Joshua Tree DVD is good, but I haven't seen it.

obviously not everyone but I'd expect any drummer below a certain age to at least be familiar with the style of playing.

absolutely! All subgenres of metal incorporate double bass in some way, and with every passing year, the double bass start popping up in more genres and styles where it was previously considered taboo. This is important because this is the music the next generation of drummers is listening to NOW.

kids listening to this music and learning drumming are going to want to understand what is going on in the song technically and musically, so being able to break down the double bass patterns in, say, a Lamb of God or a Meshuggah track will not only improve your playing but will help in breaking down stuff your students are stuck on.

an inexpensive double bass pedal is still a very modern technology; because of this, it's still not a widely used or accepted form of playing across all genres. I'd expect to see that line blur completely in the coming years and decades.

Keith had always gotten my love. Loved him since Ultramagnetic. Still love him even though his music career is basically a joke now. He's just a fucking weirdo, and I love him. I still watch Global Enlightenment when I'm feeling down. Makes me want to restock my refrigerator.

It occurs 18 minutes into the movie. I found the soundtrack on Amazon here. I listened to all the samples but none are the percussion from the party scene. There are some strings that come in just before the percussion part, but I couldn't match them up with the Amazon audio samples. I even went as far to visit composer Teho Teardo's website and send him a message asking if he knew the song.

Yes I know I can buy the album for 32$ and see if it's on there, but I'm unemplyed right now, and the sound track isn't on any torrent sites I could find.

The movie isn't helpful as it does not list the name of Teardo's songs at the end, and neither is IMDB's page for it.

There were dozens of different versions and other soundtracks set to Metropolis.

I found a link to what is stated as "Original Orchestral composition (2007)"
on YouTube. If you watch, the soundtrack is in perfect sync with the picture.

Yes, it is hard finding this version. The most popular and available version is Giorgio Moroder's version.

Good luck finding it. I did see some torrents online, but you'll will have to do the legwork yourself.

If I am totally off and you want the Metropolis anime soundtrack (which is quite good, including the film - imo) it's on Amazon too.

Oh man, I've been really into the Decemberists lately. I would love their album! I've got pretty terrible taste in music though, so I'm going to just recommend one of my favorite albums that I think most people would like: Green Day - Nimrod

Also, I was under the impression that this EP was rare and somewhat expensive, but a browse on Amazon suggested otherwise. Actually, through the "Fulfilled by Amazon" seller, it is still kinda spendy for an EP, but the other new and used prices aren't bad at all.

Good EP though! For anyone wondering, Ren (I think it was on the old MGD forums or the old Queenston Tumblr), mentioned this a long while back and probably no one except for me and hopefully Ren will remember seeing/mentioning it.

Also, part of why this EP is so cool is THIS.

I love jazz although I rarely listen to it anymore. A little Thelonious Monk was always a nice listen. It's not my go to music though.

I'd love the bangerz album by Miley cyrus if I win. I know she's a hot mess but I enjoy some of her music.

I LOVE the soundtrack for Everything is Illuminated. The movie is pretty good, but the music is fantastic. Really unique.

This sort of thing kind of exists. When my friend informed me that she was going to New York for Comic Con, I gave her $40 for her to find me something awesome to buy. She came across the boxed soundtracks from Halo 1 - 2 (both volumes) with the Halo Wars soundtrack DVD bundled in. I still have it, shrink wrapped and all.

After being a fan of Tolkien since age twelve and owning the soundtracks of all the LOTR films and Unexpected Journey I only recently discovered The Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings. The Fellowship album has an entire track of the Elves singing A Elbereth Gilthoniel. What more can I say??
