One of the NASA astronauts wrote a book about these space mice. My son loves it! It’s called the ‘Mousetronaut’. Pretty cute little book for y’all with young kids.

EDIT: The astronaut is Mark Kelly and it looks like ‘Mousetronaut’ is a series now. Here’s a link, if that’s allowed: https://www.amazon.com/Mousetronaut-Based-Partially-Story-Wiseman/dp/1442458240

Also, Arnold Lobel (the author and illustrator of Frog & Toad) has a small book with seven tiny stories called Mouse Tales that is also worth getting. Although it’s not as great as the sweet friendship of Toad and Frog, it has a few silly stories that children enjoy. (My favorite of which is called The Journey (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9WjbTMEy1kg)

This book worked for my 5 year old. It's geared more towards younger kids, but worth a shot with your child. He liked it so much, that he took up the nickname hamster. No lie. Good luck.

u/beastskitta · 2 pointsr/HelpMeFind

Is it A Squirrel's Tale? The book is more tall than wide, but it doesn't have an owl. The description states:

"This activity book features a cardboard character which takes the reader on an exciting adventure as it passes through a slot on each page."

EDIT: This YouTube video shows some of the book, if that helps. At about 49 seconds he goes into the owl tree.

I'm not familiar with To Be a Dragonet, so I'm not sure what age-group you're angling for, but Ursula Vernon has some brilliantly illustrated, highly amusing children's fantasy stuff. The Dragonbreath series comes to mind, as does Nurk.

Check out her online webcomic, Digger, for storytelling style.

Some great recommendations here! 10 Minutes till Bedtime by Peggy Rathman was a favorite of ours for a few years. Very few words and a lot going on in the pictures as a little boy gets ready for bed while trailed by a large family of hamsters, all up to various antics.

Try this and this

Both pretty high yield. Good luck!

I should know this. My goofball of a husband does the best Harry Caray impression. Although it's closer to an impression of Will Ferrell's impression of Harry Caray.

This is the children's book: https://www.amazon.com/Twinkle-Little-Star-Kate-Toms/dp/1780657161

There is Library Mouse, a mouse who lives in a library and secretly authors tiny books that the children love. If I'm not mistaken, he was inspired by the all the books he had read. I don't remember anything about animal children, though.

Green eggs and ham.

Hop on Pop was one of my favorites when I was little. I thought it was hilarious that the kids were jumping on the dad, and made my dad read it all the time. The Spooky Old Tree was also a favorite, and it was the first book I ever "read". It was probably half memorization and half reading, but I read it at three :)

For me, I want Abel's Island because I read it as a kid, and want to have it for when I have kids down the road. I already have a small collection of books for my future kids, this would be added to that.

I have a fairy puzzle or a book called Mouse Loves Fall (samesies!) under $5!

When I was at school, the students affairs person lived above our apartment and had a dachshund. We didn't know, and thought there were rats living in the ceilings! During orientation, he was intruding a comedian, and ended his introduction by apologizing to the people below his apartment (myself and my roommates) for his dog running back and forth all day!

Anyone else remember The Island of the Skog? Scared the shit out of me but I loved it.

u/Codplay · 1 pointr/Seaofthieves

I don't have a pirate joke, but I saw you said that you have a young daughter and I wanted to share one of my favourite childhood books: Pie Rats Ahoy by Richard Scarry.

Thanks OP!!

Boom! had an amazing Darkwing Duck and Duck Tales that ended with an mind blowing crossover between the two of them call Dangerous Currency
. They even had a Rescure Rangers but then Disney bought Marvel and let their contract with Boom! laps before they could finish it or get to a Talespin comic.

Marvel might have something in the works for those properties but my guess they are focusing on the Star Wars titles they’ll be doing in 2015.

How about a book about getting a new little brother or sister? I love "Julius, the Baby of the World" by Kevin Henkes.

Check out astronaut Mark Kelly's moustronaut books here and here.

Probably not this but, it is a short story about an astronaut of sorts:
