My mom and Maid of Honor threw my shower. It wasn't really themed, more like a brunch with our wedding colors! It was really fun and I'm so glad I agreed to it despite being so anxious.

Favorite practical: these salsa bowls When I make dinner I like to put all the ingredients in separate bowls and pretend I have a show. Or they are perfect for a little snack. I love them.

Favorite fun/sweet : my future mother in law gave us the champagne flutes they had used at their wedding with a really sweet letter.

I don't own a proper scuttle, but I do have a hot/cold dip set that does a great job keeping my lather warm.

Before I jump in the shower, I fill the bottom bowl up with hot water, set the top bowl in and fill it with hot water and throw my brush in there to soak. When I get out of the shower, I dump out the top bowl, shake out my brush, and proceed to lather up. I let the brush sit in the nice, warm upper bowl until it's time to apply more lather. Works great. Sometimes I even drop my razor in the hot water while showering so it will be nice and warm, too.

Personally, I use these:

• Edwin Jagger super badger brush I got on sale
  
  (Though this is a great deal on a just-better-than-starter brush that's still very high quality)
  
  
• Norpro dip server for lathering
  
  
• Bay Rum shave soap in a wooden bowl from these guys
  
  (Sometimes I also use their Bay Rum aftershave. At least two straight men have told me I smell good.)
  
  Total outlay is about $120 out the door (assuming the cheaper brush), but after that you buy blades at $0.10-0.50 per blade and a puck of soap for $6 every few months. Instead of spending 5 minutes hating shaving, you spend 10 minutes enjoying it.

Unfortunately it seems the price has gone up, it was only $15 when I picked it up a few days ago. I would love nothing more than one of the beautiful handmade scuttles that some of you guys have, but it isn't in the budget right now.

For anyone interested in getting a scuttle, I can definitely recommend this. It works very well.

If you're not dead set on a mug, and just looking for something that works consider this. After using a couple of different bowls and mugs, I've found that these salsa style bowls work the best for me. They have them at my local Dollar Tree for 2 or 3 for $1. Something about the rough surface inside those bowls compared to the smooth mugs and bowls I'd tried just seem to helps the lather build more quickly.

I have a set of stainless steel ice cream sundae cups that I inherited from my grandmother. They're really simple, and not ornate at all, but I have fond memories of her serving little sundaes to my sister and I when we were kids. Now I serve my kids sundaes in them.

Perhaps not terribly useful for you, psywiped, since it'd be a little bulky and fragile to mess about with at the truckstops, but others might want to check out this $13 dip server as a very serviceable makeshift scuttle. It's stoneware, so it will retain heat better than the metal bowl, and it even comes with a lid.

I think it's hysterical that the full 6 pages of "customers also bought" products for that bowl are nearly all shaving items.
