If they're new to the game I would get them a 1 or 2 player starter. If they have a bunch of friends already into the game then the 1p starter is fine as it covers tokens for just them, but if they're the first of their group to get into the game I would go with a 2p starter that way they can always play games with their own stuff/introduce new people to the game, etc. (you can find 2p starters on sale often for $20, which is a great value)

A couple extra decks is always fun. 4-6 (total) to start is a sweet spot to get some variability in what you're playing. I think getting a display for a new player is actually a mistake because it makes you want to jump around too much from deck to deck. A lot of fun (and skill growth) in this game comes from getting a lot of reps in with decks to really understand the intricacies of the game. With 4-6 total you have enough for variability among your collection but you can focus on a few to get really good at and then keep 2-3 sealed to crack open and have the same discovery experience again later on.

Once they decide they're into the game, I would go with component upgrades:

1 - I would highly recommend picking them up some sleeves. Dragon Shield Mattes are the best I think. I go with Clears to show off the unique back, but they come in a bunch of colors (and only opaque sleeves are legal for OP). I am generally not a "sleever" for my various board games and card games, but since each deck is unique, if you damage a single card, the deck is trashed. If they subscribe to only focusing on a couple of active decks, you'd only need a few boxes and they can swap the decks as they rotate new ones in.

2 - Being able to keep a few decks on you means you can jam some games in the random spare moments you get with friends, so I would go with a nice deck box if I had to prioritize a single upgrade.

  • I carry this Xenoskin 120 in my day to day bag because it's small and can carry my tokens and the 3 sleeved decks I am actively playing at the moment.
  • This Xenoskin 200 is the same version but holds 6 sleeved decks and tokens for multiple players
  • I use these dividers to separate decks for easy removal

Depending on how light they want to go, both are great options (Gamegenic just recently launched KF branded deck boxes too, they're pretty nice from what I can tell, but have a stupid non remove-able divider in the token tray)

3 - Nice tokens have great table presence. If you're budget conscious I would start with upgrading the keys only. There are various options out there (start with Etsy). I picked up these metal keys and cannot speak highly enough about them, but they seem to be sold out at the moment (maybe keep an eye out or message the seller)

Team Covenant's Aember is cool in that they're procedurally generated so each set is 100% unique. The rest of their token options are pretty pricey and since the core token set only comes with damage and stuns, it's hard to recommend. You can buy separate packs for power/armor/ward/enrage, but that would push the whole set to $89 for a single player set.

There are a bunch of options on Etsy. I have some friends who have sets from DayDreamGaming, which are nice. They're larger than I preferred though and not double sided so there are a LOT of tokens (so not the best portable option). But they are not too expensive, and quality is great (new Ward and Enrage tokens are fantastic).

Hello Balkan neighbor! KVISSLE is a good choice but lemme give ya advice on it. Ofc handle is a must and ya can find it easy. As for the front go to a hardware store get a plank and a hinge or two and the front is secure albeit those magnets are strong. Switch the panels onto the metal side and if ya have magnets in the bottom of the base they will stick like it was glued on. Also remove the panels and fill the inside with soft materials like foam or styrofoam to keep them extra safe and those thin points not break. Plus when ya play ya can do a badass reveal. But if ya do not want to lug that in a bus (i feel ya man...) i found some on amazon for that budget. Its this (29 euro), this (27 euro but a bit smaller) or this (37 euro). Now i dunno if they come with foam but that you can find easy for cheap or use the inside of egg cartons (they are really cheap and protect minis very well, they saved my 150+euro worth of minis with not a single one even having a small crack). All these cases can be lugged as a backpack or over the shoulder

ABSOLUTELY watch all that, but if you don't have the time I'll give you the highlights.

For a regular deck box, Legion and Ultimate Guard make great boxes that tend to fit more than their reported value.

If you want to get fancy, any of the Ultimate Guard Flip'n'Tray or Monolith boxes are awesome. Also the Ultra Pro Satin Tower, pretty much the same as the Monolith.

If you need something as cheap as possible while also holding all your stuff (like d20s and d6s), the Ultra Pro Pro-Dual box will hold a full 75 card deck in one compartment and a Chessex 36ct d6 box and some d20s in the other.

Other than that I like the Ultimate Guard Deck'n'Tray, It holds a deck like the boxes with a tray for counters and dice.

So, here's all the details on how people store Magic cards meant to be played, with links.

The gold standard for the number of Magic cards to store is 75 or 100 double sleeved cards. As long as your container can store this many cards in one section it will be at least useful to the owner. Additionally, no one really likes storing their cards flat like your current box. Cards are much, much easier to retrieve from the container if stored edge on (top or sides exposed as opposed to your front or back, look at the pictures below).

The Boulder deck box by Ultimate guard holds exactly the preferred number of cards, down to sub millimeter tolerance. 100 cards and 75 cards

Ultra pro makes a pretty ubiquitous soft plastic box for 75 cards and 100 cards which does offer a little more wiggle room.

Ultimate guard makes nearly identical boxes. 75 cards, 100 cards.

They call their 75 card boxes 80 card boxes but that's referring to single sleeving and even single sleevers tend to appreciate the extra space for a few ancillary cards like tokens.

Also, we do not double sleeve with penny sleeves but inverted(open end at bottom of card) perfect^1 fit^2 sleeves and with regular^1 sleeves^2 over that.

https://www.tolariancommunitycollege.com/how-to-double-sleeve-your-magic-the-gathering-cards-and-why-mtg/

Being able to hold cards is great but there is also some benefit to being able to hold a whole deck box. The Arkhive is a popular example. It holds snugly 5 x 75 card boulders and 4 x 100 card boulders. It also holds soft plastic boxes but less precisely.

When storing dice they are stored separately from cards. Ultra Pro, Ultimate Guard

u/BeyondSadistic · 2 pointsr/mtgcube

Personally? I use BCW Mattes. You can get a pack of 500 through amazon from 14-18 dollars. I have never had one of these sleeves break. The fronts are matte, they shuffle well. I've sleeved through easily 15,000 of these sleeves and never once had an issue with miscut or breakage. The price does fluctuate on them through Amazon so I try to buy boxes of them when they are down to the 15 dollar range.

BCW Mattes

For cubing I stick to the blacks. I've tried their other colors for constructed but they are definitely see through. These sleeves are thinner than Dragonshields for sure. I LOVE Dragonshields, but the fact that we have multiple cubes, it was just more economical and I really have been impressed with the BCWs at their price point!

u/formerlybamftopus · 1 pointr/cardfightvanguard

I used to like using ultra pro side loading inners with Japanese size (small) kmc hyper mattes... but the hyper mattes are horrible now. When I have to resleeve those decks, I'm going to be sad... these decks barely feel bigger than a single sleeved deck.

You can use any japanese size perfect fit inner, and then use a standard size outer from your brand of choice (I recommend dragon shield just for longevity). The eclipses get marked after a couple of rounds in a tournament.

Deck box wise, I use the Boulder 80 deck boxes and the 80+ sidewinder boxes for cardfight decks. The satin towers are nice, but they take up a bunch of space in your bag if you bring multiple decks around with you, and take up a bunch of space on the table when you play. If I take them out of the house, I use them solely for magic tournaments now (they fit a double sleeved 60 card deck, 15 card sideboard, and up to ten single sleeved tokens).

u/scd · 7 pointsr/Netrunner

Two suggestions:

Since you just started playing, the UltraPro Tower is great to just store two decks and some tokens. Comes in a ton of colors, is very durable, and holds what you need. The best for the price (around $10):

https://www.amazon.com/Red-Satin-Tower-Deck-Boxes/dp/B00FRIEAN8/

If you're wanting to bring multiple decks to casual play nights or similar events, you might want to consider investing in something that will let you bring multiple Corp and Runner decks. I like the Ultimate Guard Twin Flip n' Tray:

https://www.amazon.com/Card-Twin-Flip-Tray-Xenoskin/dp/B016CWIJXY/

Comes in multiple colors, the magnetic latches are strong, and is a great way to carry four decks (or five, since I take out the token tray and slip in another deck).

BONUS SUGGESTION:

The Quiver. I've filled my Quiver up with upwards of 8 constructed decks and a bunch of extras. It holds my cube at the moment, but is a great case if you find yourself wanting to bring lots of cards anywhere:

https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Carrying-Exterior-Dividers-Compatible/dp/B00XYC3MNI/

u/BBDEN · 1 pointr/magicTCG

yeah, i guess my post wasn't that informative. I am moving around about 7 modern decks and 7 sideboards. I don't have enough of the cards i need to run 7 different decks so i use deck lists and a two fat pack boxes to make decks and sb when i go play. I just wanted something that can hold BULK but wont ware and will protect 5,000 $ in cards.

I want something like the dragon shield long deck boxes, but a little stronger and about double the space.

Thank you!

http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Shield-Storage-Compartments-Black/dp/B00DJ4N4H0/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1416720123&sr=8-18&keywords=card+storage+box Something a little better than this with 2-3 times the storage.

u/zlforster · 2 pointsr/magicTCG

I’d recommend a nice deck box. It’s the sort of thing I want, but never would buy for myself. I was given an ultimate guard deck box. It’s got a spot for dice, and two sleeved decks. Amazon has it for $35, but my FLGS has them for less so it may be with shopping around.

Also dice in general. Your buddy probably has a bunch of d20’s, but something mini dice are super useful for counters. These are generally lost or “borrowed” and not returned, so this is something you can always use more of.

Hope this helps!

u/SidNYC · 1 pointr/magicTCG

I'd suggest some nice sleeves : http://www.amazon.com/KMC-80-Pack-Pochettes-Barrier-Perfect/dp/B00SSE5XTI/
Or a nice deck-box : http://www.amazon.com/Db-Flip-Tray-Xenoskin-Cards/dp/B00VTQE3KW/

The sleeves will protect his cards ( see this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKrU35UDH18 )
The second will look classy and hold his deck. :)

u/dar24601 · 1 pointr/dicemasters

Well i just got into this game just have one starter and just placed an order for a gravity feed. I'm just planning to use this plano lockjaw organizer. It worked great for when ran a Junior High D&D club, so planning on storing my dice, rule books and dice bags. And for the cards I'll use Deck box for my teams and then store any extras in BCW boxes from my baseball collecting days. It's a bit much for what i have know but it's what i have on hand don't want to spend money on storage rather save that money for when the DC Worlds Finest set is released.

full frame lands 2 just the lands, but most prefer the art on these to the first one I linked

jumbo d20s one is good, two is great

u/moontini · 2 pointsr/magicTCG

I ran into the same issue. I found a pirate labs box that holds 120 cards, fit my resealable double sleeved deck perfectly.

Link

Edit: it looks flimsy but it's actually pretty solid. Not as good as the boulders or satin towers, but much better than most flip boxes. It's got hard plastic underneath instead of the usual cardboard. I think pirate labs also has a bolder-like product, but they only hold "110" so it'd be much tighter

u/fireballx777 · 1 pointr/dominion

They're not plastic or cardboard, but I used this for base game + 2 expansions, and upgraded to this for base game + 3 expansions. I've been loving it, very compact for the amount of cards they carry, and very easy to travel with.

u/eikons · 3 pointsr/EDH

I think the most compact thing I've seen people do is put all their decks in a gift box, then wrap some rubber bands around it to make sure the lid doesn't come off (and duct tape the corners as a precaution, they tend to rip after some time). I think with single-sleeved decks you should be able to fit 12 decks in one. You would still need 3 of these though.

If you want to have all 32 decks with you each time, maybe you just want to put them in Dragonshield Clear boxes and use a trolley suitcase to put them all in.

The clear boxes are nice because you can see the commander without opening the box. Whenever someone wants to borrow a deck, I just put them all on the table, no need to open the boxes to see which commander is inside.

u/r0wo1 · 1 pointr/boardgames

Buy Pro-Matte sleeves in bulk. There's a bunch of options for them on Amazon.

My preference is to buy from ACS Pacific Supply since you mix and match colors for just a couple bucks more.

Overall the cost comes out to about $2.75 a pack and you can sleeve games that use standard sized sleeves pretty inexpensively. As a bonus, I love the pro-matte sleeves since they've got a nice textured backing that makes shuffling so nice and they don't slide everywhere.

u/Odinthunder · 1 pointr/EDH

https://www.amazon.com/Pirate-Lab-120-Card-Slice-Black/dp/B0758YBCH3/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=pirate+labs+120&qid=1562198412&s=gateway&sr=8-1

These are the only ones that I have found that fit Perfect Hards and Dragon Shields, it's very comfy, and you have to squash all the air out, but they do fit fairly well.

Personally, I've gone with proxying the expensive cards and keeping the main cards in a staples binder, this lets me keep my edh decks single sleeved without worrying about the cards being wrecked, this isn't viable for everyone, but it's what worked for me.

u/bao12345 · 2 pointsr/EDH

160 model on amazon for ~$30 https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guard-Standard-XenoSkin-Purple/dp/B01LZY554H/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=ultimate+guard+flip+n+tray&qid=1573440918&sprefix=ultimate+guard+flip&sr=8-11

That one is purple but they come in other colors for sure. Mine are black and blue.

Cases are very sturdy, the magnets are strong, and I’d trust the Xenoskin on unsleeved cards (but I don’t trust my oily as hell hands, so I’ll never play unsleeved again).

u/royalhart · 3 pointsr/WarCry

For the general terrain, victory, twist and deployment cards they go into ultra pro matte card sleeves.

Ultra Pro SLEEVES Pro-Matte D12... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SM43JYK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Then get stored with the dice inside of this:

The individual warband miniature cards go into of these, so I can flick open a page for each game:

Vault X Premium eXo-TecTM Zip... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071V91LGC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

As for the ability cards, they also go into the folder, not in a slot but as it’s a zip folder they won’t fall out. I’ve used these as card sleeves for them.

Docsmagic.de 50 Premium 4 x 6... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07H1LCFZZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

All I had to do was use a standard paper guillotine to shave about a millimetre from the top and bottom edges for them to fit fine.

u/Arelfel · 1 pointr/boltaction

I've been super happy with a game plus bag, you have to buy the foam trays separately. It uses pluck foam so you can make the exact shape you need for each mini.

u/Shade151 · 1 pointr/Netrunner

Lol, I could see myself doing that... but my girlfriend would kill me. She loves pennies. And collects coins. I would be shunned for defiling her precious copper plated zinc!

Thanks for the idea on the case, but I'm dead set on my sleeves. My brother got something similar for Christmas HorribleCase. It looks like I might end up with a few of these to start.

u/covert_operator100 · 1 pointr/savageworlds

Magic: The Gathering and D&D immediately comes to mind.

If you want a padded bag with many compartments, a lot of hobbies have something like that. Camera Bags (especially for film cameras) are probably going to be the easiest to find if you don't want to buy online.

I really like my Ultra Pro Tower: I got it while I was recovering from a stroke, so I know one-handed works. It has space for dice, 100 cards double sleeved and then a space for cards in top loaders, or the oversized commanders/ planechase/ archenemy.

Here is a post I made earlier about getting into the game.

>Now, I will also give you some important information what stuff you need to play your deck.

>Purchasing cards
=============

>For purchasing cards, I recommend buying a booster box and an elite trainer box for each new set that comes out then purchase singles. An elite trainer box also gives 5 of each Energy type and burn and poison markers as well as nice dice! One for flipping and the others for keeping track of damage They're made of acrylic, not cheaper cardboard that come with preconstructed decks.

Really, they're good quality for just being a sheet of cardboard, and miles better than elite trainer boxes.

u/Shiiva_Wilding · 1 pointr/magicTCG

This is the kind of thing I was thinking about here, looks really great and the dice tray at the top can hold all kinds of dice, not just for magic but for all tabletop games. Comes in absolutely loads of colours too, so you can get his favourite!

u/Trigunner · 1 pointr/magicTCG

I like these: https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Shield-AT-20001-Gaming-Clear/dp/B000VJGP22/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520342749&sr=8-1&keywords=dragon+shield+deck+box

The price on Amazon seems a bit high to me, at my LGS I can get them fro 2,50€.
But they are really good. They are cheap, durable, stackable, come in different colors but you can still see through, wich is sometimes handy to identify decks. Holds a double sleeved 75 cards or a sinlge sleeved 100 card deck. In both cases you still have some extra room for tokens or whatever.

u/xI_SM4SH_Ix · 1 pointr/swdestiny

For a single deck I like these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DN2AT3O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XTefzbMFCE40C

For two decks most people use these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXZUIYT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pVefzb2NGS4AP

There are cheaper options, but I still think these are worth the money. Both will hold everything (tokens dice and cards).

Dragon Shield makes a 4-compartment box that might fit your needs, it claims to hold 300+ sleeved cards, though I've not used one myself.

While they don’t have windows, they have similar shapes so you might be interested in these

https://www.amazon.com/PAIYULE-Extra-Large-Hard-Cards/dp/B07CKRSDLT I have one of these and it works quite well!

Don’t trust this because I’m not sure it’s gonna work out, but at the moment I have a plan to buy 2 or 3 of these and print those sumpfork tabs. Bob’s your uncle. My main reason to not use the hobby lobby box is because it would be a nightmare to get it to ship to Ireland, and I like the way I could bring this setup on the go by only bringing select boxes. I have no plans to sleeve anything just yet.

This box has two sides, each that fit about 150. Each side has an optional separator in the middle, that can be removed.

I haven't tried it but I was curious about this case: Caseling Large Hard Case for C. A. H. Card Game.

I just watched the Tolarian Academy review videos on deckboxes today. The guy didn't specify whether or not these held double sleeved commander deck, but he did say the 4 compartment boxes will hold 2 double sleeved commander decks. Those might be worth looking in to.

I have found these to be acceptable quality for boardgames. Heck I even sleeve up my Vintage and draft MTG decks in them.

Just don't buy one of these or one like it. Want say it's amazing except it has freaking rounded edges. No idea what rocket scientist thought that would be a good idea, but it has a definite chance of bending cards at the 4 corners. I have stiff white dividers placed at the front and back as a precaution and the front right one is already bent on the inner corner somehow. And that's with it sitting on my shelf 90% of the time and hasn't traveled much at all since I bought it.

Picked up a crappy wooden project box and am probably going to make my own foamcore insert for it.

600 pro matte sleeves for ~$35

Not too bad, bought 1200 last month. You can customize the order by messaging the shipper.

Bend a token in half and use as a divider. You could also get different color sleeves for each deck. You can find deals on sleeves online. Here's the normal amazon bulk price.

I use this to carry 5 decks. It's got decent room for other stuff too.

This is the only one I know of:

Ultra Pro Artist Series PRO-Tower Deck Box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J897R1S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M4EtDb6KGMX0T

Sorry if that’s the double box you already knew about.

For around $34 on amazon you can order a box of 600 ultra pro sleeves (12 packs of 50 sleeves) and choose from 20 colors how you want that broken down. For example you can ask for 100 yellow and 500 orange or 100 each of six different colors. I just noticed the title says 16 colors and the photo shows 20, some of the sellers might not have all 20 colors. I don't use ebay, something similar is probably there too.
