I bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00373X6SA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1372862907&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

My son loves to smash his head against the slats when he sleeps, so I needed something to protect his head. These vertical slat protectors are a godsend. They leave maybe 2-3 inches of room, so he never gets any limbs stuck.

Wonder bumpers! Expensive, but they solve the problem, are "in use" 15 hours a day (eventually), and they are safe. My kiddo tried to use the mesh one as a step to get out, then I switched to these. They are still on her crib (and she is still in it) at age 3.

One of the foster moms here used a baby crib bumper. Another just cut cardboard strips and zip tied them around the bottom. I currently am fostering a 2.75lbs Nethie and he only jumps over the regular 36" x-pen :)

Crib Rail Covers

These are the ones I have along with the long front railing cover that matches.

I picked these because the strap isn’t connected to the cover. It has holes that a strap has to go through both sides and then tied so if for some reason it were to come untied it will be less likely to cause any problems.
