You can get decorative storage chests that do double duty as a coffee table or footstool or ottoman... Some even have lockable false bottoms for concealed storage...
But shop around... I'm sure you'll be able to find something similar that'll fit in better with your current furnishings...
Yes! It's a garment rack. I saw so many beautiful set ups on Pinterest and have used all the other shelf/floor spaces in my house already lol so I nabbed this to try something different.

Thanks for the input! Sorry to have left out key dimensions. We had figured a dining table no more than 72" or so. As for the opening coat space, we figured a piece "like" this one along the wall between the door and the stairs. Also I never mentioned price because at this stage we are trying to get as many ideas as possible and decide to save or prioritize accordingly based on when we can afford them.
Would you suggest a narrow table behind the back of the three seater in your proposal of a couch facing the "tv wall"?
Is there a better way to deal with a fireplace (a "focal point") being stuck between two areas?

Some pics from my spring collection. I made my setup by connecting this bench and this bench with one middle shelf between them. Nifty shwifty huh? I think it came with a seal coat but if it is going to last a few rainy seasons I'll have to reseal.

That's actually one of the projects I've been working on this summer! The standout addition to my room is a coat rack/shoe bench. The shoe shelves are easy access for my constant on/off shoes. And I use the 9 hooks as a convenient way to store clothes I've already worn, but aren't dirty enough to wash. It's drastically cut down my clothing clutter.
