Alright, first...Happy Early Birthday!!!
Now on to face things.
Skincare
First of all you should check out r/skincareaddiction. Even if you don't want to join the community the FAQ is great.
What I do for my normal/oily skin is every morning and every night I wash with CeraVe Foaming Face Wash which is recommended for oilier skin. So you might want to check that out.
Every 3 days or so I exfoliate with Epicuren which is just from my mom's shop but it's a nice deep scrubs without being too abrasive. You don't want abrasive like with say St. Ive Apricot scrub because you're actually tearing your skin and that's just not very nice. You want to gently exfoliate.
Once a week I use a LUSH face mask. My favorite is Love Lettuce because it's refreshing and exfoliating. Second favorite is definitely Cupcake. I feel so clean and bright after it.
Wipe off your makeup before you go to bed. It's bad for your skin and bad for your sheets. Whatever you do to take it off, just get it off. I use vaseline. It's cheap and easy on my sensitive skin.
Clean your brushes. Clean them. Seriously. What I do is after every makeup application I get a tissue and something with and edge like the edge of my dresser and I wipe the brush over the tissue over the edge to get all the excess makeup out. Then every 2 weeks I do a deep clean. Get a bar of some kind (towel rack, clothes hanger) and rubber bands. Get some warm, running water, and either some baby shampoo or some brush cleaner (though honestly I just use shampoo) and wet your brushes, bristles pointing downwards always. You don't want to get water trapped inside the little metal/plastic attaching ring thingy. Add a dot of shampoo to your hand and swish that brush around. It'll be gross. Good. You'll always remember to do it now that you know how gross your brushes get. Rinse bristles down. Dry bristles down by wrapping the rubber band around the handle and attaching to your rod/hanger.
Makeup
This is what I cannot live without
Makeup For You
So if you're just starting out again you don't want to go spending a stupid amount of money before you figure out what you like. So here are my suggestions for you specifically.
Anyway, I think you look really great and that's the best start is being confident and having a natural beauty. Also I love your hair. But if you have any questions just let me know :)
This looks very minor, there is no scarring, and there are no flakes and rough regions. what can clear this in my experience as a guy with lots of acne but experiment with different substances through the year have found some that worked and some that don't work so much. If you are a shaver, apply cream and shave normally, if you have an electric, rinse and shave as lightly as you can before you move on. My advice for this particular case was to start from a small solution since it's not as bad as mine with 1% Salicylic acid and use it for a few weeks. Do it in the shower and don't scrub too hard and dab face with towel after leaving shower. if you don't see any significant changes and the pimples and inflammation persists, up the does to 2% salicylic acid, stronger might not mean better but I have seen changes in my skin when I use it so try that for a week. If still no difference, you can cocktail it as follows. In my experience you should never use something with Benzoyl peroxide in it all over your face (especially the one I have been using which has 10% concentration, HOLY BALLS!!! that was a lot. as a result my skin got super irritated and burned, and I got redness everywhere). What I use the Benzoyl peroxide for is for dabbing it on the severe areas (where there is a zit, and/or large bumps) it's best for concentrating on specific regions because of it's strength. leave it there for almost 5 seconds (any more time then it's start the burn) and rinse (make sure it's all gone because mixing this product with others is not recommended, we are trying both to tackle specific areas while at the same time keeping the rest of the face under control.) then move on to using the salicylic acid solutions all over your face to keep everything under control. Back to regarding the Benzoyl peroxide. No matter which solution works the best, when pimples start to disappear it leaves behind scars and discoloration, in order to solve this in some cases you would use a scrub with honey and oatmeal (or make a mask with honey and oatmeal in it) as the antioxidants could help remove the bacteria that remains and restore skin pigmentation.
be sure to keep your skin moisturized and keep your body oil secretions under control with this routine. Using the 1% salicylic acid solution helps keep everything in check, it clears dead skin cells from pores and keeps the sebum from being trapped in the hair follicle and then creating another zit. It also helps keep your skin moisturized so there is no rough spots and peeling skin (if you ever get sun burnt, aloe helps but don't force it if you are really proud of your clear skin because you will get redness that will take time to go away as it's elasticity isn't as active as the skin on the rest of your body).
If all fails, visit a dermatologist, he/she will probably prescribe you things that can't be bought over the counter that contain ingredients like clindamycin phosphate, glycolic acids, etc. she might also give you surgery if your skin fails to restore it's natural pigmentation. Here is a list of the solutions I have been trying.
There are a variety of the Salicylic acid scrubs that even the grocery store generics work, pay close attention to the drug facts.
Be aware that not all products at the store feature drug facts (because the meds in the market are loosely if not barely regulated by the FDA), keep an eye out so you know what you're putting on your face. also Don't scrub super hard. and don't scratch. It's good that you are tackling this at a young age, just simply using the solution I suggested to keep things under control once you get rid of the mess will most likely keep it at bay, taking action after it gets bad is cause for seeking medical attention as keeping it under control on your own is like herding cats.
After looking at your skincare and assuming you are a dry/normal skin type as you've posted, your routine is very invasive and more suited for an acne prone oily skin. The products you use are excellent because they are dermatologically effective, but you need to cool it with all the chemicals morning and night.
Hi everyone, I'm new here, and new to skincare in general. Hoping to get some help with my acne and blemishes.
For background, I am male, turning 22 in the fall, and I've never really had a standard skincare routine. I hate putting stuff on my face in general. I tend to avoid moisturizers and creams and lotions and all that. I don't like the oily feeling, but I'll try putting up with it to help my acne. Always thought it would start naturally clearing up around this time in my life and never worried about it too much or looked it up. It's gotten a bit better recently, but I still get a lot of breakouts and this chronic big one on my left cheek too.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Issues: Acne and acne-related blemishes. Occasional, but minor, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. (Just learned that's what that is from reading through the sidebar stuff!)
Skin Type: I have no idea. I read through the link provided and still not sure how to classify. Combination I guess? I think my skin is slightly dry in general, but I tend to sweat a lot (especially with the hot Californian summer sun), so it gets oily sometimes.
Current Routine/How Long: I usually just wash my face with water pretty regularly. For most of my life (since I was about 15) I would use these two St. Ives acne-face washes (Apricot Scrub and Green Tea Scrub) anytime I showered. In the past couple months I've switched to this Neutrogena Daily Scrub and this Clean & Clear moisturizer, but I still use them pretty much just after showers. For about the last week or so, I've been trying to get into the habit of using them both daily. Was going to start trying twice a day for the scrub.
Anything New: Definitely a big increase in the frequency I use my cleaners. Using moisturizer more in this last week than ever before in my life too. Not a lot has changed so far though. My skin has just become a little softer I think.
Location: California Bay Area
I feel like it should also be known that I teach martial arts so I spend a lot of time running around getting sweaty and dirty and also a lot of time on the ground, sometimes facedown on the mat or getting other peoples' hands across my face. I've also been a terrible picker for a lot of my life, but I've been pretty good about it lately.
Here's some stuff I've been looking at trying from my research recently, including looking through this sub's awesome sidebar info.
I also haven't looked into sunscreen at all because I have fairly dark skin and am pretty sun-resistant already. Other than Pokemon Go recently, I don't spend a lot of time exposed in the sun anyway. And when I do, it's usually early morning when it's not too strong, or around sunset when I go out after work. I hear it's kinda important though, so I would appreciate recommendations for that too.
Please and thank you to anyone who can help me! Sorry for the long post.
Hey, new here to ScA. I saw this thread was active even after being posted some days ago; so I signed up with hopes to become an active member of the community :)
Little about me: I haven't been doing skincare stuff all that often. In fact, I'm quite new to it. In addition, I'm currently rather young, and pursuing skincare in the hopes that once all of the 'problem areas' of my skin are clear, I can establish a daily 'up-keep' routine; preferably as minimalistic as possible (anti-bacterial soap & moisturizer).
Anyhow, the below is the information relative to my current situation. Feel free to flame me for what I'm doing incorrectly; although I would greatly appreciate hearing the reasoning behind your opinion(s). Looking forward to hearing some feedback and, hopefully, contributing at a later point (perhaps when I'm more informed on the matter).
Skin type: Blemish Prone (per my take on the guide)
Current routine:
• [Shower] Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash (excluding facial application) (https://www.amazon.com/Dove-Deep-Moisture-Nourishing-Ounce/dp/B001ECQ4WQ)
• [Shower] Neutrogena Rapid Clear Foaming Scrub (SA 2% - facial application only) (https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Rapid-Clear-Foaming-Scrub/dp/B003YCF4XO)
• Equate Beauty Spot Treatment (BP 10% - facial application only (spot treatment)) (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Beauty-10-Benzoyl-Peroxide-Acne-Treatment-Gel-1-oz/43436404)
• Neutrogena Rapid Clear Daily Leave-On Mask (BP 2.5% - applied everywhere spot treatment wasn't - facial application only) (https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Rapid-Clear-Stubborn-Leave/dp/B0195I8UMM)
• CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion (Hyaluronic Acid - face & neck application) (https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizing-Lotion-12-Ounce/dp/B000YJ2SLG)
• Same as the morning
• Hibiclens (Chlorhexidine gluconate solution 4.0% w/v - Spot treatment applied via directions on bottle with q tip - tested extensively via separate patches of skin) (https://www.amazon.com/Molnlycke-HIBICLENS-LIQ-8-OZ/dp/B00E5R65SA)
[?] Applications are extremely conservative, but becoming less-so over time
Note: In addition, I'm changing bedding, towels, and wash-cloths often.
How long: I've been using the above routine consistently for around two to three months now. And although my skin is getting better, the transition has been extremely slow. At times it causes me to wonder if there are things I can be doing differently. My motto when doing this has resembled something of "Rome wasn't built in a day". In that time I've effectively reduced all cysts, nodules, and pustules down to papules and open/closed comedones. I am happy with the progress that's been made thus far, but I am working towards clear skin altogether.
Anything new: Pimples will appear (and re-appear, respectively) from time to time, but I usually am able to eliminate said blemishes within the realm of a week (or sooner). I figured this was a good sign. Other than that, I speculate that I have found some instances of staph infection on the surface of my skin, and am planning an appointment to the dermatologist when I get the chance.
Location: Arizona (aka the surface of the sun). I feel this will prompt quite a few responses regarding sunscreen, and I have recently embraced the idea of including it within a routine; especially in my recent quest to eliminate the vestigial red-marks (PIH?) lingering on my skin.
Matters of concern:
I'm very liberal in my application of the above BP 10% 'spot treatments'. This my be irritating my skin unnecessarily, but I haven't experienced any obvious irritation. I'm also considering purchasing more Hibiclense with the intent of wide-spread usage (in an effort to clear the additional acne from my chest and back), but I don't know how effective that would be considering it wouldn't penetrate the skin like BP.
Of course, thank you all again for the (potential) input. I greatly appreciate anyone who puts in the time to help a new-comer like me. <3
Personally I had spent a long time using aveeno active naturals, my skin looked SO GOOD, but then upon seeing an esthetician and dermatologist and having them check out my skin with a special camera, they determined that regardless of the exfoliation and moisturizing I was doing, the stuff was drying my skin out so bad the top layer of skin on my face was pretty much all dead skin.
Now I personally use Andalou naturals it’s organic but not crazy expensive, and I use one of their cream cleansers in the morning and a typical cleanser from them at night, with the same moisturizer with SPF after both cleansings. My skin looks better than it has in a while.

Hello SCA!
Skin Type: Balanced, combination. I get seasonal dryness, no oiliness otherwise. No acne. Occasional pimple once every 8 months.
Current Routine: Just wash my face in the shower with whatever I can find. Usually a daily scrub off the shelf.
Location: Upstate New York
I don't have a problematic skin. No pimples or acne since I was a teenager, but they have left me with very little ice-pick scarring near my eyes. It's hardly noticeable.
I'm just looking for a more even toned, brighter skin. Here's what I have in my cart so far after reading the SCA Routine from wiki. Please approve or help make ammendments. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub, 2.5 Ounce (Plan on using it once or twice a week)
Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser (For AM/PM cleansing)
Aveeno exfoliating daily scrub (For daily AM/PM use)
Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture - SPF 35 (for sunny days)
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream (for non-sunny day moisturizing)
Kiehl's Vitamin C (for nightly use)
I'm mildly wary of chemical exfoliation and cleansing, only because I've never had any problems and I don't want any new problems from taking off too much skin. What do you guys think?
Here is a good guide to help chose a new hair style. You’re not hopeless remember taking care of yourself, diet, working out eating right etc. does major changes to your body so it’s always good to try to work towards being your very best. For skin care I wouldn’t say my skin is sensitive but things like proactive really screwed my face up, so I was looking for a cleanser at Walmart when I came across this Nivea men sensitive cleanser. It smells wonderful leaves my skin nice and soft actually their whole line is great. Shower twice a day use your cleanser. Wash your face with exfoliating scrub.three times a week this is the scrub I use there are many from the same brand or other brands but read the skin type and chose what best works for your skin type. Again this is regular grooming stuff but I feel if we are talking about skin care as men we don’t really pay attention to black heads on the nose but believe me it bugs the hell out of girls remove any black heads. Best of luck! You’re ugly right now but things change definitely hit the gym and lean down if you’re looking for a better facial structure definition.
Hi! I suffered from oily sensitive skin problems too before! Here's the routine I followed and I noticed a big difference:
Face Wash (2 times a day): I used simple korean face washes and these worked wonders for me! You can find really cheap face washes at Marshalls/TJ Maxx or at Amazon. Here's a good brand: https://www.amazon.com/Etude-House-Baking-Powder-Cleansing/dp/B00819F4OO/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520014584&sr=8-1&keywords=korean+baking+soda+face+wash
Toner (2 times a day): SUPER IMPORTANT! I used alcohol free which is super important if you have sensitive skin. I highly recommend this toner I still use it to this day and my skin has calmed a lot and become so soft. You can get this on amazon or any local stores really like Sprouts or even Marshalls TJ Maxx. Link: https://www.amazon.com/Thayers-Alcohol-Free-Petal-Witch-Hazel/dp/B007HD570Q/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1520014674&sr=1-3&keywords=thayers
Moisturize (2 times a day): I know it seems weird to moisturize an oily face but trust me its needed. Sometimes your skin might be super oily since its not receiving enough moisture and thus overcompensates by producing a bunch of oil (I've heard this before I'm not a doctor though). You just can't use super creamy moisturizers. This is my go to really light moisturizer. I prefer gel moisturizers since they don't feel as heavy on my face and provide a good balance to my skin. Link: https://www.amazon.com/MIZON-Snail-Recovery-Cream-Count/dp/B00NTR9B6A/ref=sr_1_6_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1520014798&sr=1-6&keywords=mizon+snail
Face Mask (once or twice a week): Since you have sensitive skin I don't recommend using Charcoal as it might be too harsh. I instead use any exfoilating (or non exfoliating) masks with tumeric. It's a great anti inflammatory perfect for sensitive skin. I use this one personally: https://www.amazon.com/YLLO-Turmeric-Scrub-Chickpea-Exfoliant/dp/B0764M4MWT/ref=sr_1_13_sspa?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1520014932&sr=1-13-spons&keywords=tumeric+mask&psc=1
Again you just have to experiment with what works best for your skin. It's a difficult process but I'm sure you'll find a way. Sorry for the really long post but I hope this helps! :)
Ok...Here we go! This is a very relevant topic to me so get ready for a long reply ha!
I have cystic acne that only came up after going off of birth control a year ago. I've tried SO MANY things, but nothing worked! It wasn't until we started TTC when I was taking more vitamins that it finally got better, but it was still not great.
I found a routine that keeps it in check though and it involves Manuka Oil! My skin is in the best shape it has ever been! So here is what I found that works for me:
AM: I wash my face with Era Organics Natural Face Wash. About 3x per week I use their scrub. Then mix a little bit of Manuka Oil with CeraVe AM Moisturizer then apply Bare Minerals powder concealer.
PM: I remove my make up as soon as I get home from work with Micellar Cleansing Water and wash with the Era Organics face wash. Then I put a little bit of organic sweet almond oil along with the manuka oil on a cotton round and apply that to my face to moisturize. Sometimes I'll swap out the almond oil for CeraVe PM moisturizer, but the almond oil seems to help a little better.
Along with this routine, I take 30 mg of zinc and the recommended dose of vegan DHA every day, 5000 IU of vitamin D M-F, along with my prenatal. But I swear by the zinc. Here is a little information on why zinc helps with acne.
As for my chest and back (I get pimples there too but not cystic) I've been putting witch hazel and manuka oil on a cotton round every morning/evening and it has really helped clear it up! Granted I just started this routine a week ago so I hope it continues!!!
For someone who has struggled with this to the point of tears, I finally feel like I have it under control!!
I just posted this on another post that’s 102 days old. Oops! Maybe you’ll get good results with this.
I’ve been keeping it simple and using a brush like this to exfoliate my KP areas (back of my arms). https://www.ulta.com/facial-cleansing-brush?productId=xlsImpprod16601265
I use it with a facial exfoliant with salicylic acid. Stuff you can buy at Target, nothing super fancy and expensive. Neutrogena Acne Proofing Daily Facial Scrub with Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment, Exfoliating and Cleansing Face Wash, Oil-Free, 4.2 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075X1WJKQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_57QUCbAK6DS4A
Just make sure it has the exfoliating beads in it.
Then I shave my arms. Sometimes I shave before I exfoliate, sometimes after. Sometimes I don’t. I know some ppl might be against shaving but I feel like it’s helped ME. I don’t know if ppl are against it though, I haven’t looked into it. I bought Ocean Mist exfoliant from Lush and use that afterwards with my brush and sometimes shave again.
https://uk.lush.com/products/cleansers/ocean-salt-self-preserving
If I remember to buy it, I use a lotion that won’t clog my pores. Coconut oil clogs my pores, a lot of things do. The only products I’ve found that are light for my skin that won’t clog are from Lush.
I can’t remember if I used Karma Kreme but I vaguely remember the name. It was either this one or Dream Cream. Dream Cream had good reviews for eczema help.
Karma Kreme - https://uk.lush.com/products/karma/karma-kream
Dream Cream - https://uk.lush.com/products/dream-cream
If you’re from the US, just choose the Non-UK choice. It’s super frustrating, I get it. I’ve been to dermatologists, etc. My friend who had a skin-business in CA told me about the brush and salicylic acid exfoliator and I’ve seen big improvements, just do the salycylic daily. Don’t buy the Lush stuff if you don’t want to, was just giving options. That’s stuff I discovered on my own through my journey.
I use a St. Ives green tea blackhead clearing scrub, and I found it in my local grocery store. My skin is pretty hardy from years of trying to control acne, so what works for me may not work great for you. If your skin is pretty trouble free, I also use the St. Ives grapefruit brightening scrub, and it makes my skin super shiny and fresh ✨ Both smell really nice, which was the dealmaker for me.

I hope your adventures in makeup go well! Have fun!
Hey, I am looking to start a skin care regime but i have little to no knowledge on pretty much everything. so i have a lot of questions, i apologize if this isnt the right place but hopefully im not breaking any rules. as some background I am a 23 year old guy, tend to have pretty oily skin, and i have some issues with acne and back acne. I was hoping for some feedback about what i plan on starting.
first off I am thinking of using a combination of these things:
facial cleanser and body cleanser while showering,
than i would also suppliment with:
a facial cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturizer at night.
I got most of these items from beginner guide on this sub, but what i was wondering is if any of these products are redundant or unneeded if my goal is for a simple and relatively cheap routine? Additionally i was wondering if anyone could roughly predict how long these volumes would last?
Any help would be really appreciated!! Thank you!!
You look great. But get a piece of paper, man. A well stocked house is important (don't play on bluetooth speakers lmao, mildly nsfw).
Here's my advice:
Get a haircut that makes more sense for your head shape. You have a slightly big forehead. Not an enormous forehead, though! It's about normal sized, only slightly larger than average. But the hair style is really emphasizing that otherwise minor fact.
As for acne, here's the process I use and it pretty much got rid of all of my acne. I used to have acne exactly like you.
I'm sure some of these steps aren't nessecary, but this was the routine that I developed. Since it works crazy good, it's a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of thing. If you don't want to invest in ALL of the aforementioned products, then you could probably get away with just 10% benzoyl peroxide scrub + 10% benzoyl peroxide treatment + witch hazel.

Anyways, you're like a 5.5 / 10 right now. 5 is average. So that puts you slightly above average. Deal with acne and get a better hair style and you're easily a 6.5 / 10, which means attractive.
I've been using this Aveeno scrub for some time, and it works pretty well. The good part is that it really does help clean and is oil-free which is great for me. At that price I have yet to find a better scrub.
But my girlfriend recently turned me onto this Ocean Salt Scrub from Lush. While much more expensive, leaves my skin feeling amazing afterwards. Also works great before a shave too.
Generally blessed to have good skin, until I started breaking out like mad a few months back on my forehead and upper lip area.
Upon the advice of a friend, I tried AHA/BHA to clear myself up from Paula's Choice and Drunken Elephant's Babyfacial but it seemed to make everything much worse.
I finally went to HeyDay and my facialist berated me for following the advice that wasn't right for my skin type. Her theory was that my pores were getting clogged and irritated from being extremely dehydrated (NYC winters) and suggested that I use a gentler cleanser, an exfoliant, and an intense healing balm.
My skin is SO much better now with the extra moisture so my regimen is as follows:
Grown Alchemist Gel Cleanser - Half pump to remove make-up, half pump to cleanse. Day and nighttime.
[Naturopathica Healing Balm] (https://www.amazon.com/Naturopathica-Gotu-Kola-Healing-Balm/dp/B01H60XAH6) Mix with HA and/or MH Vitamin C serum to make it less thick. Use higher concentration at night for healing and less in day because it can be a bit shiny.
[Cosmedica Hyaluronic Acid] (https://www.amazon.com/Hyaluronic-Pure-Highest-Anti-Aging-Non-greasy-Paraben-free-Best/dp/B0090UJFYI/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1522688559&sr=1-4&keywords=hyaluronic+acid) Honestly, just the Amazon default HA and suits my purposes to mix with the Naturopathica Healing Balm.
[Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum] (https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Hippie-Vitamin-Hyaluronic-Ferulic/dp/B00DKF7XPW/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1522688609&sr=1-1&keywords=mad+hippie+vitamin+c+serum) Mix with Naturopathica Healing Balm. I bought this on a whim and my skin got worse when I ran out so I re-introduced this back into my regimen as an HA alternative.
[Grown Alchemist Exfoliant] (https://www.amazon.com/Grown-Alchemist-Polishing-Facial-Exfoliant/dp/B00G3J8J96/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1522688670&sr=sr-1&keywords=grown+alchemist+exfoliant) Use 2-3x a week to gently exfoliate at nighttime after cleansing.
[Mad Hippie Sunscreen] (https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Hippie-Products-Facial-Broad-Spectrum/dp/B018E92YAC/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1522688706&sr=1-1&keywords=mad+hippie+sunscreen) Terrible at using this daily, but that is the goal!
This is a random question, so apologies in advance but I'm at my wit's end and hoping people here are knowledgeable enough to provide some advice.
I've used L'Oreal's Paris Go 360 Clean exfoliating scrub daily for years. I work out every day and get a buildup of dead skin and oil and gunk up near my hairline and this scrublet and scrub were perfect at getting my face clean. It's been recently discontinued and I'm devastated. Does anyone know what a close alternative would be? I can reuse the scrublet or find something similar, but I'm more concerned with the face wash. It contains 1% salicylic acid which is the perfect amount, 2% dries my skin out too much, and I think the beads are very helpful.
Really hoping you guys have some advice, thank you in advance!
Hi, new to reedit but thought it would be nice to get some opinions
I am almost 19, from NY and have struggled with skin/acne texture on and off for years.
I also in the last year was treated for hodgkins lymphoma and during treatment my skin had completely cleared and then changed from dry to combo
I also suffer from hormonal acne
Now, after treatment. I have combo skin, with dryness on my t-zone but oily eyelids and nose
i have texture on my forehead and chin that consists of small pimple like bumps that dont come to a full head and nothing seems to be working

I have been doing this for about a year, some days worse than others.

Hi all, just took what will hopefully become "before" pictures of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. I started using Alpha Hydrox's oil-free 10% glycolic acid treatment, which banished every last one of my active pimples within a week. Since the glycolic acid is already a pretty strong solution, what are some products I can safely use to help it do its job and dissolve the PIH marks? I also have Alpha Hydrox's 2% hydroquinone spot treatment, but haven't tried using it at the same time as the glycolic acid. Another thing I've started doing is sleeping with a clean washcloth on my pillow, which I suspect will be a major help since the side with more dark spots is the side I sleep on. Any other suggestions?
Current routine (day and night):
Kyoku for men (haha) scrub with Olay spin brush
Witch hazel + tea tree oil as toner
Queen Helene mint julep mask (every other night)
Alpha Hydrox oil-free 10% glycolic acid
*Pond's face lotion (night only)
Everything in this routine I've been using for the last 2 months with the exception of the glycolic acid. I've had PIH of about this severity for at least 2 years now.
I've used pore strips and I've used this scrub
I also just looked at a product from Clinique that comes with a brush that moves like an electric toothbrush, and a few cleansing products. At $60 it wasn't cheap, but I plan to pick that up next week when they have their free gift with purchase promotion and see if that's even better than the Loreal.
Hi guys, never done this before, new routine to help with deep acne scars and/or discoloration.
Skin Type:Asian, light brown, oily and I break out easy.
Currently routine: Nip + Fab Extreme Night Pads after washing with Rockface Face wash with pore strips every once in a while. I read that I should wear moisturiser with some SPF protection so I'm trying to pick one. Here are some I found:
Location:Europe, somewhere not very sunny and I get rather pale until summer hits, so idk if SPF 30 is overkill. If the item ships within the EU I'm happy.
http://www.amazon.com/LOreal-Paris-Clean-Exfoliating-Scrub/dp/B002PBCAEQ
The scrub comes with the loreal 360. Size might be a bit different, but it's cheaper and the 360 smells like heaven. :)
Daily:
splash my face with cold water
Morning wash my face with Garnier Cleanser followed by Toner, Renewal Serum, then I massage my face & massage in moisturizer, followed by some (mostly for the smell) aftershave, and I massage my hairline with Vitamin E Oil, & after it feels like my face has absorbed it, i usually start applying sun protection for eyes and then the rest of my face & neck, exposed skin (arms, legs, etc) protection and hands
while at night, i take a shower (usually after a bit of exercise) and cleanse my face with cleanser lotion and my with a good body wash and follow later on (usually before i go to sleep) with another facial cleansing using the Garnier pure essentials & then some night cream
and I usually repeat this routine daily with the exceptions that I don't put the sun protection on when I won't be going outside in the day-time and I usually skip it all one day out of every week to let my skin rest
Non-daily:
On top of that, I usually try to shave facial hair every few days. I start by putting a hot rag over my face, then I use a cotton ball to rub on baby oil
and I exfoliate once a week (my body & my face) using a good facial exfoliating scrub that's either L'Oreal or the Body Shop and I use the same scrubber from the L'Oreal one for both
and scub my body with one of three scrubs using exfoliating gloves
after exfoliating my face, I usually follow with a moisturizing mask (using Honey, Fresh Lemon Juice, and Whole Wheat Flour) & I usually try to do it on the beginning of the week (Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday) so I can follow 3 days later with another one. If on Sunday, then I follow on Wednesday with a non-homemade mask and I try to follow at the end of the week (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) with a 2nd homemade mask (Using caramel, baking soda, an egg yolk, whole milk, and 100% cocoa powder)
then, I usually moisturize my face and my body. I also try to moisturize my body at least once a week (sometimes more) by taking a bath using 2-cups of milk, fresh lemon juice (1/2 - 1 whole lemon), sometimes some honey, and specially formulated bubble bath.
I try to mix this with a relatively regular exercise schedule (cardio around 5 days a week (I'm researching different weigh-lifting regimens & Yoga & Calisthenics to add to this)) & a balanced diet (alot of fiber, fruit (daily), lots of water, vegetables when I can (salads, veggie sandwhiches when I can (I might start drinking a daily V8 for more)), White & Green Tea daily, limited sweets (usually just a nutrigrain when I do))
So, if you've actually read to this point I salute you. My question is if there's anything generally wrong with this routine (other than price & the fact that it shows my level of OCD)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope that helps.
I go for mechanical exfoliation myself using pads like this. I also sometimes use Bulldog Face Scrub somtimes. Over at /r/skincareaddiction they usually recommend using some sort of chemical exfoliation like a facial peel. I don't have any experience with that though. After you exfoliate, use a little witch hazel or similar to disinfect and be sure to moisturize too. It really does help.
I've had horrible skin for several years and picked up this routine. My skin looks amazing now! Twice a Day: Wash Face > Toner > Moisturizer (one with SP-15 in the morning and one without at night). Once to twice a week: Wash Face > Face Scrub > Face Mask > Toner > Moisturizer. Kyoku products are my favorite and are highly praised in general. Some recommendations:
You could try something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Oil-Free-Acne-Daily-Scrub/dp/B000NWDSAE/ref=pd_sim_194_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000NWDSAE&pd_rd_r=TQ00X11M1D4EDP902EWW&pd_rd_w=bW4qk&pd_rd_wg=nouuH&refRID=TQ00X11M1D4EDP902EWW&th=1
Your derm might recommend something, some even stock their preferred product. Depending on the doctor your see, they might recommend a daily wash, daily cream, and/or treatments like chemical peels, lasers, or topicals.
So my skin barrier is messed up. And around my cheeks (mainly below eyes area). Is really messed up. I posted on this sub and got some advice. These are the products I purchased.
[FIRST AID BEAUTY Ultra Repair Cream] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004WC2H8A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
[The Ordinary. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XN5WRPW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
I've been using them for a few days now. I'm just wondering how long they take to start working. I've also got a
[Vitamin C Serum] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Balance-Cosmetics-Active-Formula-Vitamin/dp/B00X5M8ZRK/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1519518439&sr=1-4&keywords=vitamin+c)
I also use this [Face Wash] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bulldog-Original-Face-Scrub-100ml/dp/B004IX45GK/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1519518489&sr=1-1&keywords=bulldog+face+scrub+men)
I'm looking for some advice.
How do I deal with blackheads on the tip of my nose.
I have spider veins on the sides of my nose as well as around my upper lips area. How do I go about removing these.
Would you recommend any other face wash? Something which has a bigger impact?
I'm a guy by the way.
Skin Type - It's pretty normal. Only oily on nose and forehead. Not super sensitive.
Thank You.

I use a gentle scrub by Aveeno. It feels more like a cream cleanser, that's how gentle it is. I would never use anything harsh or abrasive as it's sure to just make things worse.
http://www.amazon.com/LOreal-Paris-Clean-Exfoliating-Scrub/dp/B002PBCAEQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422254374&sr=8-1&keywords=360+deep+clean
it kind of looks like the pad included with this cleanser. I couldn't really tell you whether is was great or not as I was used to use the Clarisonic brush.
I was perpetually plagued with dry, blotchy skin on my face, and this Aveeno face wash is pretty much the only thing that's helped, plus applying a daily sunscreen moisturizer.
combined with replacing soda, juice, and artificially-sweetened beverages with water.
As a beginner I have some dumb questions. So I started a routine and I read on here that it’s better to use cold water. How long should I wash my face with cold water before using the cleanser? I'm using these pads and I don't know if I should wash my face after using them?
I have this exfoliant. thoughts?

Also, are there any other stuff I should know? I used the ScA routine and mainly those products to create my routine.
Yeah, I use this stuff which has walnut shells in it.
I'm a 17y/o with acne and oily skin, It gets really dry after washing with this cleanser, even after applying CeraVe moisturizer, followed by a Benzoil peroxide topical cream. I do this each night, should I change the cleanser to something else? My acne is better than it use to be but still very present and I have red marks.

I use this L'Oreal cleanser to wash my face and this Lubriderm lotion to prevent dryness.
Most likely it is from the sharp cut end of hairs poking at your skin as it grows back in. This is even more likely the culprit if you stretch your skin a bit when shaving your neck.
Instead of scratching, when you feel this kind of irritation use a nice exfoliating scrub on the skin of your neck. Something like THIS would work. Use this scrub with a face clothe for best results exfoliating your skin.
If you don't want to use a face-scrub you could also just wet your shaving brush with hot tap water and use the bristles to scrub the skin of your neck. Follow up with a couple of splashes of witch hazel and you should be all set.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
All of it is under makeup. Those Himalaya's of the mind!
I think he is talking about these ones.
I use this to exfoliate: https://www.amazon.com/Nip-Fab-Glycolic-Scrub-Ounce/dp/B00DDOW9CC?th=1
And this as a face wash: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Oil-Free-Acne-Wash-Ounce/dp/B000FH4I1U
Exfoliator has glycolic acid, face wash salicylic acid.
Something like this is SO dependent on the skin you inhabit. My husband can wash his entire body (face, hair, errthing) with the same bar of Dr. Bronner's soap. If I try to do that, my hair is completely disgusting and my face breaks out in a rash and/or terrible cystic acne.
I use fewer products than a lot of people, but I wouldn't call my routine "minimalist" as such. However, every single thing I use is something that has made a massive difference in the way my skin looks and feels. 100% worth every penny and worth whatever clutter ends up in my shower.
In the shower I use the same product for my body and hair and a Cetaphil face wash. If I've worn makeup or gotten sweaty over the course of the day, I will use an oil cleanser too. I usually follow up with toner after washing my face, and then I don't need a moisturizer. Once or twice a week I'll use a physical exfoliant on my face and body as well. Also use eye cream 2x per day, and acne spot treatment when necessary. Super gnarly cystic acne gets ice or warm compresses and the big guns.
I almost never wear sunscreen and I know I should, but every single effing brand I have tried has made my face break out horribly after only a few uses. I try to stay indoors as much as possible, wear a big stupid hat, and only use sunblock if I'm going to be outside for more than half an hour at a stretch. Melanoma or cystic acne....decisions, decisions.
The rest of my body rarely requires moisturizer, but when my hands and feet do, I go balls-to-the-wall and do the Vaseline mitten/sock thing overnight.
