My last shelfie post.

DETAILS: Late-20s

SKIN TYPE: Normal, slightly reactive

AM Routine:

1. No Same nano-mister for morning refresh: This tool isn’t neccessary, but it makes me feel fancy and when I use distilled water, my skin looks and feels hydrated and my face glows.

2. Olay Luminous Advanced Tone Perfecting micellar water: I feel like I’ve raved on and on about this product, but I truly miss it when it’s gone. It just adds extra glow and conditioning to my skin.

3. e.l.f. Hydrating Water Essence: This one really wakes up and plumps my skin. It has caffeine so it works well it taking any morning puffiness down.

4. e.l.f. Antioxidant Booster Serum: This stuff greatly enhances my golden glow. I was so leery about ever trying vitamin C again, until, I tried this. It was just released and I’ve already ordered another bottle. It helped begin fading dark marks within a few uses. It absorbs quickly and imparts an all-day glow. My skin just looks better when I use it. Everyone sleeps on e.l.f., but some of their products are just incredible. I wish this came in 30 ml though.

5. Olay Regenerist Regenerating Sunscreen with SPF 50: Just great! Brown girl friendly, no white cast, and almost serves as a serum.

PM Routine:

If wearing full-face makeup, cleanse with generic mineral oil

  1. Nano-mist (same as above) to saturate

  2. Micellar water (same as above)

    6. La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle cleanser: So gentle, ineffable really. Lovely formulation.

    7. Secret Key Hyaluron Soft Micro-Peel Toner: Now this stuff is incredible! It has more than the standard amount of hyaluronic acid and so the glow is UNREAL throughout the day afterwards. It feels exactly like water. I apply it with my palms while my face is still wet to damp and wake up with a new, brightened and plump face. Every time.

    8. CeraVe PM: ‘Nuff said. Great, simple moisturizer.

    9. Melazepam: 20% Azelaic Acid. This is the reason I no longer need foundation and I am forever grateful for that. It did cause purging for the first 2 - 3 weeks, but the results have been well worth it. I’ve been using it for 7 months (same tube). I have spoken to the company on the phone about their changing weights and feel that they are a smaller, trustworthy company.

    Sunday PM Routine Addition:

    S. TO Buffet + 1% Cu peptides: I am a huge fan of NIOD’s CAIS 1% and I may like this one better. It’s more viscous, but better to apply and causes no irritation when applied to the whole face. Gives my face a glow upon waking.

    Wednesday PM Routine Addition:

PureFormula’s Deep-Cleansing Fruit Gel: Simple, effective formula. I’ve never tried Good Genes or the Baby Facial but I imagine this stuff as just as effective. I was blown away by this product when I started using it as per the label instructions, instead of as a spot treatment. The first time I used this all over my face, I thought to myself: Remember to use this the night before your wedding day. I woke up with a new, bright, baby face. It’s unlike any product I’ve used before. There’s definitely some pulsing when it’s applied. You only need to wear it for 3 minutes and then rinse it off. I tested the pH when I first got it and I believe it was <3. I don’t really need to use this one weekly, maybe every 2 weeks.

edit: I have a bunch of lifestyle tips as well, but I can't fix the formatting and don't want to have a wall of text.

Mom: first you in the short term: I am not your doctor or a doctor, but someone who suffers the headache rainbow: not Advil, try excedrin extra strength. Advil is good for physical pain, excedrin for head aches. I get migraines, cluster headaches, and serious sinus headaches. You may have any or a combination. Excedrin extra has a sinus cocktail mixed in that may help if it's a mix. I often sneak an extra if two aren't working. Also get a pack of DayQuil. If it's more sinus pain, this may help. I have friends who swear by mucinex d, but I haven't tried it yet. You may have do try the round robin of medication until you find what works for you. Be warned that some states monitor and regulate the purchase of Pseudoephedrine, so don't stock up all at once. Cycle what may work, not work. In the long term: talk to primary care or ENT if you can about getting REAL medication to help if it's either migraine or sinus. If you can, I also very highly recommend buying a $20 face steamer like this ( https://www.amazon.com/Conair-Moisturizing-Facial-Sauna-System/dp/B017COTV8S/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=Face+steamer&qid=1556592676&s=gateway&sr=8-17) Awesome for skin, sinuses, and headaches. Also hot tea. Slight levels of caffeine like in hot tea (not coffee) opens up blood vessels to lessen pain. Steam also good.

Also, do not mix medications. If you have Advil in you now, wait 5 hours to medicate something else. You just don't want to risk serious personal health blips.

Also drink water. Drink water on good days and bad. At least 3-4 cups. If your headaches are sinus mixed, this will help prevent by thining mucus and phlegm.

On the kid front: I also have a five year old testing boundaries. On healthy days talk to your kid about your headaches. I'm very open about mine to my child to let her know that sometimes mommy just doesn't feel good and she needs to be a big girl about it, and let mommy be. If I can, I give her quiet tv, if she won't quiet play. It's tv nanny-tv I know, but sometimes you just have to be kind to yourself and let it go. Else, I'd be firm about boundaries. Remember, you're OK being a bit of mean mommy now so tgat when 15 rolls around you have a real adult in training.

Sending love, love, love.

Go to the dermatologist. If you already do, stick with it for a while and do what your dermatologist tells you, it will take a while. Trust me I started going about a year or two ago when my acne was getting pretty bad and I have gone through ALOT of different products and have really felt like giving up at times but seriously after trial an error over time my acne has really improved! I know for some it might be a little costly but it is really worth it.
Another thing i would recommend is buying one of these,
what it is is a facial steamer (kind of like a face sauna) and will open up and really clean your pores. It has also really helped me improve my complexion plus, it can "unblock" a stuffy nose!

hope this helps, and good luck! :)

Here's the info I've compiled over the years to deal with my stuffed up nose and sinuses:

If you have an infection (sinus or otherwise!) reduce dietary intake of sugars and simple starches (crackers, rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, cereal, etc). BACTERIA EAT SUGAR. Plus, starches dramatically depress the immune system for hours.

Avoid trans (bad) fats at all costs.

make it a high priority to eat abundant "good fats". Obtain some grass fed butter (and meat for that matter) for cooking if you can. Improves immunity immensely.

EAT MUSHROOMS for immune enhancement!

Brush your teeth WELL and frequently. Important to be aware that bacteria can travel from one cavity to another in your head. Dental, ear, and sinus ills may all be related! Mouth, throat, nasal passages, sinuses, and ears are all connected and can share germs.

Thorough oral rinse at rising, at bedtime, and after meals: 1/2 t salt to 8 oz warm water. Rinse, gargle, spit out until the cup is empty. Tip your head and work to get into all the "nooks and crannies".

Eco-Dent mouthwash is good as well. Pluse Dentek Easy Brush Interdental Cleaners and a [waterpik](http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_8?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=waterpik%20water%20flosser&sprefix=waterpik%2Chpc%2C240] .

Get more sleep.

Antibacterial herbs: thyme, myrrh, mints, basil, cloves

Steam:
Boil a pot of water on the stove and add aromatic oils (those listed above, and/or tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, etc). Take the pot off the burner, throw a towel over your head and the pot and inhale the steam. Alternatively you can use a facial steamer . It has a contoured bowl that you put your face into, a heating element and a cup at the bottom of the bowl that boils a small amount of water to which you can add aromatic oils. Much less muss and fuss than the pot-and-towel method, and less risk of burning yourself. Costs about $20.

A wonderful oil blend for steaming is First Response by Aura Cacia. Contains tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, sweet orange, lavendar, and sandalwood oils.

double to triple fluid intake: The "health nut" guideline for fluid intake is 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight per day. Good to drink this much every day, not just when you're sick.

Hot garlicky soup.

hot packs on face/sinuses (across bridge of nose) /head and on ear/s. This one is awesome:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00012QEFM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's called the MediBeads Moist Heat Therapy Sinus Wrap

Garlic supplements to guard against your congestion turning into an infection. Garlic oil in the steamer, also.

Beyond all this, I take Zyrtec, Benedryl, Mucinex (sometimes) and a prescription called Singulair which works in a different way than antihistamines and decongestants to clear your nasal passages and sinuses. I also take a high quality omega 3 oil supplement to combat inflammation which is a major contributor to blocked sinuses/nasal passages. Tell your doctor the standard OTC go-to's aren't helping. Ask him whether Singulair might help you, and ask about an allergy workup.

edit: Please excuse my formatting errors. The waterpik one just will not cooperate with me. :-P

u/Pizzabagelpizza · 2 pointsr/curlygirl

I use steam, and my curls LOVE it.

Your mileage may vary, but I noticed that my curls are the best in the summer when the humidity is high. I started experimenting with refreshing my hair by turning upside down and lightly fluffing and scrunching in a steamy shower (without letting the water hit it).

Now, I use a facial steamer. My hair can be super flat, and this just poofs it right back to shape. I usually spritz a little bit of Deva Set it Free on the hair before hand, mostly to protect my brittle color-treated ends from any heat (though the steam isn't super hot). Figuring out how to steam refresh my hair is the only reason I was able to transition from daily morning washes to evening washes every 2-3 days, so my hair is so much healthier now.

I use a steamer like this.

So after having a wonderful k-spa experience last week, I attempted to imitate my time with an at-home spa day where I put my new Italy towel to use.

Although my day was very relaxing, I didn’t get all the nasty dead skin balls I was so eagerly looking forward to!! I also felt like my Italy towels weren’t that sand-papery. I think I will go back to the jjimjilbang and purchase one of theirs to see if it’s any coarser in texture. So that was a mini-fail.

But the plus for the day was that my Amazon order of the Sulwhasoo Snowsie Cleanser arrived this morning before I even woke for the day (yay!), plus the gold vibrating thingy I had bought to massage in my serums and creams came, too!

On first impression of the Sulwhasoo cleanser: it is every bit as luxe as my fellow AB redditors had claimed. I have a real weakness for cleansers that smell amazing, particularly for scents that are herbal/medicinal/spa-like in nature. This was just as described by others: it smells like pine trees. It felt like I was washing the essence-of-Christmas on my face, like a freshly plucked Christmas tree was in the shower with me. It was such a festive scent, particularly appropriate for this time of year. I felt like Bambi prancing through the forest.

I’m so pleased that this was recommended to me. And it feels so velvety on my face. I look forward to having this in heavy rotation amongst my other favourite cleansers.

I also really enjoyed using the gold massage thingy. I don’t know if it is effective, but it sure makes me feel like a queen as I glide it in upward motions along my cheeks. That’s enough to make me a happy customer :)

I feel like a more effective device would be a steamer as a gift for your girlfriend, I'm not too entirely sure what a plasma device is supposed to do as each brand likes to say something new but in general they say it cleans pore, promotes cell renewal and hydration.
A steamer can do all of this as steam can loosen plugs, it can promote cell renewal but encouraging blood flow, and water is the best hydrating ingredient + steam has been known for years in aiding skin. Plasma devices are still new and I don't completely understand how they work. Here is a link for a steamer I've personally used:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06X8Z8D2C/ref=mp_s_a_1_7_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519583745&sr=8-7&keywords=facial+steamer&dpPl=1&dpID=41lKjIyCuUL&ref=plSrch

I'm in the midst of adjusting to acanya in the morning and retin a in the evening, so I'm in the same boat as you. I'm peeling, flaking, scaly, and I still have acne because it gets worse before it gets better (so they tell me). I am exfoliating morning and night (before I apply the medications of course). I'm using a little freebie spinning brush that came with my face steamer. This brush is helping immensely with the dead skin. I'm also using pond's dry skin cream, as it is fairly inexpensive and has been around forever, so I figure it must be good for something. My skin is gradually improving, and the cream has been helping to re-hydrate my skin.

When I intend to wear makeup, the routine that has worked best for me so far is wash/exfoliate (get yourself something gentle to wash with, I switched to cetaphil), apply medication (acanya), moisturize, primer, then apply cream based foundation by patting it in with a sponge. I used to use mineral makeup but had to switch because of the peeling. If I apply any makeup with any kind of swirling motion or blending/smearing, it causes my skin to flake up. After my foundation is applied, I dot liquid concealer on blemishes and pat with my finger until blended. Let that sit for a few minutes, pat additional foundation if needed over the concealer (my concealer's color is slightly off). Once your liquids/creams have set for about 5 minutes, then finish with powder by patting/stippling powder onto your face. The biggest thing I've learned over the last three weeks is to not use a rubbing/blending motion with any makeup products because the dry skin will flake. It takes me longer to pat/stipple makeup on, but my skin doesn't flake nearly as much with that method. Good luck, hope some of this info was helpful.

Of course! So I bought [this] (https://www.amazon.com/BESTOPE-Blackhead-Remover-Comedone-Extractor/dp/B019SVHLEY/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1498406863&sr=8-1&keywords=comedone+extractor) kit. I first make sure to double cleanse and get all the gunk off my face. Then I use a toner to get the remaining dirt off my face. I bought [this] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BPKUCRE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) steamer. I turn it on and steam my face for 5 minutes. It gets really hot so I'm pretty far from the steamer itself. You want a nice warm mist on your face. After 5 minutes, I whip out the kit and examine my face. With the smallest loop, I gently press down on any sebaceous filaments and blackheads I see. If it doesn't come out with a gentle press, I leave it alone. It's sooo tempting to push harder and get everything out but it can lead to scarring which has happened to me so many times.

I had rhinoplasty done recently so I can't extract anything on my nose so I do something different for that. I first apply BHA, wait 10 min, then apply a clay mask and wait until it dries. I wash it off and infront of the steamer, I apply my cleansing oil and just massage it into my nose gently and to the rest of my face. After about 3-5 minutes of massaging, you'll start to feel grits which is all the gunk that came out of your pores. [This] (https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/) is where i got this method from :)

u/jvoski · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Nano Ionic Face Steamer I have combination skin and like to use it when i’m feeling more dry since it’s hydrating. It’s also very good to use before face masks since it helps to open your pores. Also good for sinus problems or just for an at home spa day.

Not the OP but I love what steaming my face has done too. I do it at least once a week usually and bought this one off of amazon. It was a fair price and I have no complaints with it so far.

My rosacea-prone skin was really bummed out from the lack of airflow/indoor heat, and I found using a humidifier at home has helped a lot. Maybe if you could use a desktop cool mist humidifier or even a personal travel size one like this it might help

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

When I was little, I was terrified to sleep in my room. I slept in my parents room until I was 4 or 5, and around then they asked my doctor if it was normal and what they could do. My reason for not wanting to sleep in there was because I was afraid of evil bunnies outside of my windows. My doctor "prescribed" bunny repellent, which was a travel sized spray bottle full of rose water I think. I slept in my room after that and wasn't scared of evil bunnies eating me. :)

And yeah, I'm still scared of rabbits to this day.

Seconded. Look for a tower machine that had each machine located within its own box like this (I don't own this model specifically but mine is similar);

That way if your high frequency goes down, you are not down entirely.

Try nasal irrigation to wash allergens out from your nasal cavities. I'm like you, allergic to everything here in N. California (including cats and dogs), and years of allergy shots did nothing for me. I cope by

  • Using a neti pot with distilled water, usually after being outside for any length of time, and before bed. Most pharmacies have these, and they are cheap.
  • Claritin-D (or generic) 12-hour before bed and in the morning.
  • Showering before bed if I've been outside a lot.
  • Washing bed-clothes and vacuuming regularly.
  • Using a face steamer like this if I start wheezing from asthma
  • If things get really bad for me again I might try a prescription nasal spray, like Veramyst, Flonase, or a generic. I just hate paying a physician to get something that's over-the-counter in other countries...

    Good luck!
