although i dont own that reel, i have a few that size range. i have never loaded them with 6lb mono, it just seemed too bulky to me. yeah they are rated for 10lb mono, but the fish i am hunting for (perch and trout) with that rod/reel dont need 6lb or 10lb mono... they dont strike that hard that i need the shock factor of mono.

i spool with 4lb flouro and it allows for good fishing. i also find that the Stren Flouro has good shock strike factor for the bigger trout. i did not have good luck with the berkley stuff, but it may have also been old line when i bought it.

the smaller reel will make you happy, it really will... my 5'6" light action with a tiny Pfluger President is my true love when it comes to fishing. it is so light, i can control the light line so much nicer, makes fishing pan fish easy, and a switch to trout fast and efficient, seeing as it is just a lure switch and not a line switch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the SA stuff is not fluoro. High quality fluoro like Seaguar Gran Max and comparable Rio products is typically $12-20/25 yd spool. InvisX is likely the same product and is extremely cost effective. The Seaguar normal Fluoro (not fly fishing specific and not double structure) is also a really good deal at most gear shops.

This is the SA fluoro and it's all above $10/spool: Scientific Anglers Fluorocarbon Tippet with Cutter 30-meters by Scientific Anglers http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009M9XVGU/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_h-igtb0WP1JVC

You'll have to let me know where you go and how you make out; I want to fish that area when I'm next visiting my parents.

If you're doing still water stuff, powerbait should be fine on whatever setup you've already got, though your LMB line is probably too heavy.

My setup is an UL rod with a smaller reel, spooled with 4lb P-line flouroclear. I use inline spinners, spoons, and small (1/64 or 1/32 oz) jigs. I really don't fish much still water, so if you're going to be casting at a pond or lake I don't have much advice outside the powerbait and wait method.

I also use these Trout Magnet kits that come with different lure colors and the teeny jig heads, if you're looking for an easy jumping-off point. They will catch everything in the pond since the hook is so small, but even bluegill are fun on the UL rod!

Gonna be hot, so stick to the cooler water and shady areas if you can

Feel free to reply with any questions... bored at work this afternoon

You can try making your own furled leader if that's what you prefer

I bought this level line I first started tenkara because it seemed like what most were recommending.

I don't fish tenkara much these days as I've fallen for euronymphing. However last summer, I had my tenkara rods on a family trip and no leader. I ended up just used this indicator line by Rio and it worked great!

Personally, I think any preferable size of nylon or fluoro will work for level line so long as you can see it. You probably don't need to spend $20 on imported, Japanese fluoro. I haven't messed around with it, but I could see Amnesia being effective as well

Did some research on this since fluoro tippet is so expensive. There seemed to be consensus that this is a sufficient replacement for about 4x and thicker : https://www.amazon.com/Seaguar-Invizx-100-Fluorocarbon-Fishing/dp/B005A170WA . Currently I plan to use some of that for a long French style leader. I'll definitely be trying it as tippet as well.

Find out what weight he needs and how much, which will depend on what kind of fishing he does and what kind of reel he has. If he mostly does freshwater or inshore species a safe bet would be 300 yds of 12 lb test.

I like Berkley Trilene as it's made in the US, but everyone has their own preference.

I fish mainly saltwater and prefer an 8 or 9 in. I, like Dexter Russell.

You don't need to buy leader line. For 20-30# line I now just get a spool of flurocarbon fishing line. For 40# and higher, I get a spool of Berkley big game . It saves a lot of money.

Mono leaders are the key, for using tip ups. These are the ones I use on my beaver dam tip ups. Just add your favorite hook rig, I only used large treble hooks with 5” shiners.

I think so. I use this. It's diameter is 4x but the strength is 5x so it is lower quality but you get 100yards instead of 30 meters so it's like 3x more and costs around $5.

It would be this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product//B003V4ZKF2/ref=twister_dp_update?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But, moss green, which is sold out, since there was only 1 in stock when I bought it.

Buy a reel of this stuff - it's essentially exactly the same stuff as branded unwound low G strings - you will get about 15 or 20 low G's out of the reel. It's used by some very high end luthiers.
