Top Reddit comments about Golf Ball Retrievers:

I tried getting him a 'suction cup' pickup tool, but his putter's grip was too wide for it. Found this one on Amazon that claims to fit any grip, but I'm distrustful of random Amazon sellers. Anyone have experience with this or another option that would work for my 87 year old grandpa?

Thanks!

I don’t know why people have a hard on for bashing ball grabbers around here. If my ball rolls into a lake, I don’t want to almost fall in trying to retrieve it, and at $2-4 a ball, not worth leaving behind.

For what it’s worth though, I got this Callaway retriever during prime day and love it. I truly like the old school heavy duty ones as well but couldn’t find one for cheaper at the time.

I carry a search and rescue in my car. Its meant for ball golf but I cut a 45 degree angle on the hook part and it works perfect.

Short video (sorry for the portrait vs landscape mode). Round 1 was a total catastrophe in that no balls were pulled from the pond at all. Today we tried it again at a pretty decent course in Atlanta and pulled about 40 balls in 10 minutes or so. They were almost all great balls with the exception of a couple generic topflites and callaway lower end balls. The thing works like a charm. Here is a link in case you want to buy one for yourself. (I have no ties to the company at all, just curious and bought one)

Love the exchange, but seriously go get one. Received [mine] (https://www.amazon.com/Orlimar-15-Foot-Flourescent-Head-Retriever/dp/B004LFW7S8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1465759019&sr=8-10&keywords=telescopic+golf+ball+retriever) last Christmas as a stocking stuffer, and it's paid for itself 100x over. My home course is usually pretty slow, so I generally stop at one specific place and always walk away with forgotten soldiers. I haven't bought new balls in almost a year

I've got a 20' one that I bring every year. Its actually a converted golf ball retriever kind of like this that I zip tie a flag to. Then we just zip tie it about 30 times to the top of two or three of the canopy legs. Ends up about 23-25 feet in the air.

there exists such a thing as a Bagsnagger http://bagsnaggers.com/
which you can see is rather industrial and designed for use by public works etc... whomelse can afford $400+ dollars for fiberglass poles.

Personally I made my own using Two 15 foot golf ball retrievers gorilla taped together.

Gof ball retrievers are usually light weight aluminum telescoping tubes..you can find them cheap at walmart, but for 30 feet up, you will need two 15' ft and even another handle attached...like a swiffer handle - or stand ontop of a vehicle, perhaps even go from inside the house. remember you need length not strength so long and wavy is fine - it only has to last this one time.

remove the BALL scoop from the end and attach a three prong garden cultivator (use a hose clamp).

Once you have a device that will reach the branch, you want to hook the bag with the tines of the cultivator and then NOT PULL!, you twist the handle and entwine, the bag around the tines as tight as you can.... then PULL, and keep pulling until the branch gives it up.

this is a good reason to use a LOT of Gorilla tape in connecting the handles together.

I have done this with 2 lengths of handles.

aw shucks, thanks. Here is where I got the idea. And this is the one I have.

extendable gold ball retriever.

If you make them tall enough so that they don't block people's views and you should be fine. They don't bother me.

Looks a bit like a (very fancy) golf ball retriever

For comparison

Or something similar

Golf ball retriever. Haven't bought a golf ball in years. Every time I'm in the woods or water, i'll find a few more.

I just realized he was using this.

u/mikshan · 1 pointr/golf

I own this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Callaway-15th-Club-Ball-Retriever/dp/B0012U7LDQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419103570&sr=8-1&keywords=callaway+retriever

A bit pricey but it's sturdy as hell, plenty long, and very easy to capture wayward golf balls.
