I may be too late for my comment to be seen, but I'll answer the questions I can to the best of my ability.

  1. The difference in price is partly the skins, and partly that they're often bundled with a game or two. Unless you can find a switch that's bundled with a game you're gonna get for less than the price of buying them separately, what I'd do is get a refurbished switch direct from Nintendo. It comes with the console, a pair of joy-cons, the dock that lets it display on the TV, the joy con grip, the AC adapter, an HDMI cable, and straps for the joy cons.

  2. Regarding accessories, a Pro controller is nice, but not necessary. A pair of joy cons in the grip that comes with the console should be enough. I'd highly recommend a case for it if you ever plan on using it as a handheld, and if you foresee needing to charge it while out of the house with any frequency, probably an additional AC charger, since the switch doesn't play nicely with 3rd party USB-C. Also, I'd recommend getting a sleeve for the dock to prevent scratches on the screen when inserting it. This is the one I have, but if you're not concerned with aesthetics you can get a plain one for like 1/3 the price.

  3. The new Zelda is an absolute masterpiece, but is far too complex for a 6 y/o. If you're looking for a fun game you can play with her, or that she can play with her friends I'd recommend Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I didn't start playing Mario Kart until I was 9 but it was my then 6 year old now step brother who introduced me to it, so it shouldn't be too complex. I'd also recommend Super Mario Odyssey. The Mario platformers tend to be outstanding games while still simple enough that children can understand them, and Super Mario Odyssey is the best among them. And I'm saying that as someone who was playing Super Mario Sunshine when I was 6. As one last kinda-recommendation, I recommend Kirby Star Allies if you can find a copy for ~$30. It's not a bad game, it's a good one but it's just severely lacking in content for what it is. I got 3/4 of the way through the game in two short play sessions.

  4. Mario Party is a multiplayer party game meant for local groups of people. I haven't personally played it, but I've heard it's among the best in the series. Mario Space Odyssey is a portmanteau of Super Mario Odyssey and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The latter is a sci-fi movie by Stanley Kubrick, and also the book by Arthur C. Clarke that the movie is based on. The former is a fantastic 3D platformer/collectathon. You say you're a playstation guy, if you've played Spyro, or even heard of Super Mario 64 you'll have a good idea what Super Mario Odyssey is about.

Yes they make a larger one.

My girlfriend and I are both fountain pen and well crafted leather aficionados and Galen Leather's work is very good.

If interested this is the specific product page for my Field Notes cover. I like this set up because I can pull the smaller from the larger quickly when I just want something in my pocket to keep notes with or when I only want my shopping list.

You can get really nice glass screen protectors on Amazon for like $10, then a "dock sock" like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Padded-Dock-Cover-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07L8YZQKY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1DHYMJ7L966KD&keywords=dock+sock+nintendo+switch&qid=1555863651&s=gateway&sprefix=dock+sock&sr=8-3

If he's a digital guy, a microsd card, and a case too.

Zelda and Mario (Kart, world, smash) and you're literally the greatest SO in the world.

So I have an Xbox that I don’t really play much but I keep a cover on it so dust doesn’t get into the fan or anything. My switch is usually in its case, but if I kept it in the dock I would get a cover for the dock as well.

Something like this switch dock cover is what I’m talking about. There are probably many more out there that do the job, but that’ll keep your switch from getting dusty. Only issue will be remembering to remove the cover when playing docked.

Maybe something like this could be better. And looks great too!

u/Vaguely_Aware01 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It can

There are options to remedy it. A screen protector is the most common, but I had issues getting it applied without bubbles and then the screen protector just got scratched instead.

I ended up buying a dock sleeve.

Works great

I’m pretty sure you can just buy a light bulb mount for your home mini, it screws in to an empty socket to provide power. Probably something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C687FP9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0WVWDb8K6AZ9F

I do not think the extension would be an issue, but you should ensure that the extension cable you are using is certified or whatever.

Alternatively, to avoid dock-scratch, you can get something like this.

u/markai1 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Well, you could get different colored joycons, or get skins for the joycons. 3rd party dock protection sleeves with Mario maker designs on them probably will come at release. This is what I'm referring to: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0774WT1RX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Kud7Cb8TA8Z12

I can't use the retrofit lights. I plan to install this into the socket.

EDIT - What I need is a retrofit bracket and socket pretty much.

This is missing some things, the one of texas with the blue line - not exactly the one I am thinking of, but close enough. Or the come and take it which is a play on this one

Not OP but check out Dock Socket. Haven't used one because I don't have recessed lighting but it does just this.

90% of this PC’s job will be streaming Eagles games to me over Plex... so not a beast.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Gbb6w6

Decidedly not beastly.

The Eagles bling was cheap. $7 for the sticker and $16 for the LED's

u/TemptedTemplar · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

None are released yet.

But if you want to try it, there is a alternate plastic housing that you can buy. It does require you to take apart your dock and move the internals, but it would rectify any fears of scratching. instruction video

You could also just get a dock sleeve. There are a ton out there.
