Good question.

I bought a locally made hookah (DC area- base with stem) from my go-to hookah shop. Had a dremel handy so with a few modification, the fit is nice and snuggly. I had to cut the downstem to make it shorter and after making the neck smaller using the dremel, I ended up using electrical tape instead of a grommet and it suprising works great.

If you are unable to find a stem that you can modify, you can create a downstem by using refrigeration copper coil and sealing it by putting epoxy on the cap.

You will also have to make a hole for in the glass using a diamond dust drill bit for the hose. You can find all of the parts from Home Depot. You may need to create another hole for a clear valve and buy one of those parts for glass hookahs to serve as a clearing mechanism. I did that a few years ago with a grey-goose bottle and everyone loved it. However, it was short-lived due to the extensive setup and breakdown time lol

That hookah idea was was inspired off of this article but I didn't like some of the parts used.

Don't worry, it's no bother at all. I've attached another link. The grommet/seal that mine did not come with is the one on the left in the main picture in this link. I am not sure this is the correct size as it would depend on the hookah you choose to buy but it does appear that they would be available on amazon if you don't have access to a local retailer. Also, if you search for a mini hookah on amazon you may be able to see in the descriptions or reviews if everything is included.

And you're absolutely right, you can't go wrong with a "bubbler" for $12 lol one of the better investments I've made in my wide ranging collection.

Now that I’m home and have a minute to type, here’s how I made it:

-I used a step drill bit to cut two 3/4” holes in the mason jar lid. I kept the lid on the jar while drilling, held the jar with one hand and the drill with the other and it worked just fine (I marked the holes with a sharpie before drilling)

-I put in one hookah hose grommet and one “downstem grommet” (I get these from my local ace hardware. You just ask for a rubber grommet with an inner diameter of 1/2”, an outer diameter of 31/32”, and a 3/4” groove, I think the stock number is 55059) in the holes I drilled

-downstem time. I get them from a local smokeshop and I use just regular ol’ glass on glass downstems that work with a 14mm bowl. Before you fit it into the grommet, lube them both up with whatever cooking oil you have on hand (I use coconut oil). Getting the downstem in is the trickiest and scariest part to me but it goes relatively easy if you coat it in oil first

-all set, just put in a 14mm bowl in the downstem and a regular hookah hose in the hookah grommet and you’re good to go

They are better than coconara as far as I have tried them, however, they do have similar ashes but better taste

I would get one of these silicone hookah grommets and attach it to the longer tube on the big one. Those are kinda small tho so you might wanna consider finding a longer type of silicone “sleeve” or another way to make sure the connection isn’t loose so it won’t just fall off. Then get one of these type of connection pieces and attach it to the grommet. Get a bowl, put it in the slide, and pull through the shorter tube and I’m pretty sure you would have a functioning bong

If youre doing it for the fun of the project, then this wont help much but they sell stems made to fit into bottles.

Try instrument shops, if they can replace tenon corks on recorders, they should be able to replace this, who knows.

I just had another idea if you have no luck there, you could try if something like this fits. if you can find a plastic gasket in the right size, they are less maintainance than cork gaskets (you should grease them to keep them from drying out and rotting, as you now know)

It is completely smell proof, it protects your pax in a hard case and foam liner, and it comes with a pill bottle so you can have some ground up herb ready to go. I also keep the pax multitool in the case and it all fits no problem. Perfect for taking it on the go. Just toss it in a backpack and have no worries.

When I first got it the built quality didn't seem that great since I've been using otterbox/pelican cases for a while, but I'll be damned it lives up to the smell proof claims. I can fit the charger, at least 1.5g's of ground bud(the container they gave was a flip top cap and leaked a bit smell, I replaced it with a screw top container that I got from an acrylic paint set that holds the smell in more)

Got this for my Pax3. Should be long enough for the GH. Absolutely no smell comes from it.
