I know I'm a bit late to the party but IMO, and this is after almost 20 years of grooming, the best thing to prevent shedding around the house is a good, metal comb. I just bought 5 of these to add to the three we already have at our grooming shop. With exchange, duty, and brokerage it cost an effing fortune, but totally worth it. The difference between these combs and regular $10 combs is night and day.

Our de-shedding process for a dog like yours would be a full comb-out, followed by some furmination, and then a good curry combing with a rubber horse brush like this. The comb and furminator will get out all the loose undercoat, and the rubber curry comb will pull out most of the loose top coat. IDK of any better procedure, or products that can improve upon this de-shedding method.

Lots of people talk about de-shedding baths, using a high velocity dryer, anti-shedding supplements, and WHY, but IMO and experience none of that stuff works better than a good metal comb, furminator and curry comb used together in that order.

I don't have much, but what I do have are very necessary! Especially the water fountain, as they both seem to really like running water. They drink straight from the taps!

Anyway, here's the items on my list:

I was actually just talking with a coworker about these today! I have a few dogs and they always seem to do a good job for removing hair. Curious what others have to say as well. I think these are the ones I have:

If the problem is just how much injury they inflict, maybe take a file or sand paper and knock em down a bit?

A somewhat popular toy I see that maybe has a similar effect to the vampire gloves is a steel horse comb. You can use em tor scratch, or as a spanking paddle. They will draw blood, but can't go deep enough to cause free bleeding.

A curry comb/brush like this? We've tried one & it didn't seem to make much difference. Unless you mean something more along the lines of this????

In my experience, the actual bags are pretty useless.

I had appaloosas so notorious for NO tail whatsoever and the braided tail wrap is where it's at. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Intrepid-International-Tailwrap-Fleece-Braid/dp/B00GQP0YCM but we used to just to just make our own out of some polar fleece from whatever fabric store is handy because it's basically three tubes with tie bits on the top and bottom. Clean tail, slap a bunch of leave-in conditioner in it, braid that shit up (at LEAST 3 inches below the bone for safety), take it out to wash/condition/rebraid once a month or so.

Does he own a horse or race himself? You could get him a horse picture frame, horse clock, hoof pick, etc. Can we get more details?

It’s a rubber curry comb (idk if that’s how it’s spelt 😂) and toy should get them in most tack shops, or if not, online equestrian shops. Amazon have a selection too; here is one example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shires-Equestrian-Rubber-Curry-Royal/dp/B007WMB1FC/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=NN2TZTOV5RO0&keywords=rubber+curry+comb&qid=1557138103&s=gateway&sprefix=rubber+curry+c&sr=8-5

There will be be whining, crying, gnashing of teeth, neighbors looking on in distress as a tumbleweed or six of doghair rolls over their lawn. :D

A garage fan, and assorted horse tormenting/grooming tools can also be used.

For those with horses AND snow dogs up north, spring just tends to really really suck.
At least snow dog hair tends to clump and blow away. Horse hair, it just seems to cling to anything.
