I loved my Rowenta until it started leaking two years after I got it. It still works great as an iron, I just have to have a spray bottle of water handy and can't use steam.

I think most people recommend Oliso irons these days. I think you'd expect to pay at least $100 for a good iron.

My husband just bought me a Rowenta and I love it! This one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007R2E578/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_5/182-0640082-2547933?qid=1371153493&sr=8-5

I haven't used it too much but so far it's the best thing ever.

u/FidoSkeeterson · 1 pointr/bleachshirts

You can get an iron for around $10. Freezer Paper is around $8. Your shirts will come out much better using the proper tools. Good luck!

Had no idea about irons, currently use some $25. Think it does a good job but now I'm interested how much of a difference a Rowenta one can make. Thinking about the Rowenta DW8080. I usually just wash my shirts and polos in the washer and let air dry. What kind of difference can I expect?

Edit: Looking at the Black & Decker D2030, its about half the price (is the blue one a newer model? shows up as D2530). Maybe might get that one as you mentioned its pretty decent.

Currently use the BLACK+DECKER ICR05X. No idea how it stacks up to the two above.

Here you go, the last iron you'll ever need: T-Fal Ultraglide.

  • Fantastic steam output. The steam has real power and pressure.
  • Solidly built, cord is thick, cord stays out of your way when ironing.
  • Holds a lot of water.
  • Easy to refill.
  • Quality seal on water hole, will not leak.
  • Keeps the intended heat setting.
  • Does not stick.

While you're at it, do yourself a favor and buy a BI4L ironing board, that is sturdy, heavily padded, does not screech when opening, has a big surface area, and holds the iron well.

You could iron a cotton shirt dry in a few minutes. A multi voltage travel iron or locally provided iron would be simple, easy and your clothes would be nicely ironed when dry. (Example at Portalbe Mini Folding Iron, Electric Dual Voltage Foldable Irons Dust-Proof Compact Small for Travel Trip School Home Clothes 100-240V (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M765CBP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FgHLDbJMR4DDG) Your hair dryer scheme is asking for a fire.

I wouldn’t travel with cotton clothing in general. My basic stuff is mostly polyester and many like wool. Socks are my slowest drying item by far.

Both, at the same damn time - buy an iron with steam. Like /u/K1NGKHAN said Rowenta is a good brand. I bought the $45 one on amazon and it's been treating me very well. link

I had a Rowenta before and now have a Singer Expert Finish. This thing blows Rowenta out of the water. Rowenta was good too, but I dropped it and cracked the water tank :(

Right amount of weight, good balance, heats up quickly and is anti-calc too.

I iron my work shirts and trousers every week and appreciate how quickly this thing gets through a load of laundry.

I've used 2 steamers (mine and my roommate's), this one and this one. Personally haven't had any issues with either of them after 9 months of use between 3 roommates. I prefer the first one because it:

  • heats up faster (in like 20 seconds, what a madman)

  • stronger/more steam

  • fits a bit more water (can do like 3 shirts compared to 2)

  • easier to use (the Rowenta one is really awkward. It lacks as an iron and lets out very little steam as a steamer)

The 2nd one is smaller/lighter, but it's just not as efficient. If I'm steaming a tee, it takes longer to straighten out all the wrinkles (1min vs 3min). Sure it isn't much of a difference, but you can really feel it for formal button-ups.
u/RSquared · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Jiffy is another decent brand from my experience. It should be noted that good irons have vertical steam capability as well; my Sunbeam Pro steams reliably if I'm not in the mood to fully iron a shirt.

I recently splurged on an iron (probably overpaid) which is the Tefal FV9965 which boasts a 2600W output. Is there any catch here or is it really that strong?

u/FreshBert · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Mine's a Proctor Silex similar to this one, but I didn't know that until I went and looked at it just now, and I'm also pretty sure I got it at Target solely because it was cheap, so my iron recommendations are much weaker.

THAT SAID, I plug it in and run it over my clothes and they seem to get ironed correctly, if that tells you anything.

u/brynnflynn · 1 pointr/quilting

I use the Black and Decker All-Temp D6000; while it is super heavy and I wouldn't recommend it if you have shoulder or back problems, the fact that it is so heavy means that the iron does 90% of the work of getting the seams to lie flat and stay that way. I also like to first press the seams semi-open on the back (enough so that when I flip it over they'll stay open without too much difficulty), then flip it and press again from the front.

I actually have their favorite from before B&D, a T-Fal.

u/book_worm526 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need an iron so I can stop going to job interviews all wrinkly :)

u/sektabox · 1 pointr/woodworking

Tools you need:

  • iron

    The materials you need:

  • veneer (you already have)
  • substrate (you already have)
  • Weldbond

And yes, I have done this plenty of times.
u/get_MEAN_yall · 3 pointsr/Multicopter

If this happened after getting the quad wet I'd guess its probably fried.
I live in a tropical climate so most of my crashes are in the mud. This stuff keeps my quads alive.

u/Unabomber007 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I got the older version of this: https://www.amazon.com/T-fal-Ultraglide-Resistant-Non-Stick-Soleplate/dp/B00HG84YQU/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1522068413&sr=1-4&keywords=Tfal+iron

Legit fantastic. Rowenta is the alpha and omega, but this thing is 9/10 function and lifespan for 3/10 the price.

u/tfhdeathua · 1 pointr/beadsprites

Cordless in general are going to be more expensive and less powerful. It takes a lot of electricity to heat that much. There’s one for $40 on Amazon but you have to place it on a charging stand between uses.

If you're concerned about shorting something out, you can spray some conformal coating on any contact areas. Another option would be to use kapton tape on the bottom of the hot wheels or where ever you position it. If it's not making direct contact with any components, you should be fine, however, those cars can roll very easily. For this reason, I'd look at maybe using a light adhesive or something to hold them in place. Common sense warning, don't use adhesive on any components.

Do you have this one? It's the only Rowenta steam generator I could find on Amazon, but has spotty reviews.

Rowenta Iron for the dapper working man

u/DDS8395 · 8 pointsr/college

Iron + an ironing board

Here's a good cheap combo. Don't fill the iron with water, there's a lot of negative reviews saying it has a leaking issue. Buy a separate spray bottle and fill that with water.

I have this rowenta and my advice now would be to NOT buy it! I have always treated it kindly (it lives in my sewing room, never dropped or used for other purposes), but it LEAKS! Horribly! and started just exactly a month after its one year warranty ran up. It was very expensive, and I am a steam lover, so I loved its gajillion steam holes and little pointy nose for opening seams, but leaking is the kiss of death. It has destroyed a couple blocks with horrible leaked rusty water stains, and almost did the same to a quilt top I decided in a fit of madness needed a final press. The kicker is I recently went to a guild sew-in, and a woman brought the exact same iron, which she only uses dry because it also developed a leak.
