🎓 Reddit experts on kids backpacks
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where kids backpacks are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
1.) Something that is grey: Sculpy! From my cosplay wishlist! :D
2.) Something reminiscent of rain: This hair accessory from my Silly Fun list! I don't know if they're meant to, but the blue bits remind me of raindrops. <3
3.) Something food related that is unusual: Food picks from my Silly Fun list! Maybe not super unusual in Japan, but here in America I doubt you'd see them often.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself: This book off my Books wishlist of course! It's for my husband, who's a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I like them, too, but I doubt I'd ever read this.
5.) A book I should read: The Invisible Gorilla, again, off my Books list. I read almost a third of this book while hidden in a book store one day. It's an absolutely fascinating study (or rather, collection of studies) about how much trust we place in our own faulty intuitions.
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related: Barely, but this nautical star decal! Unfortunately, it's not on any of my lists.
7.) Something related to cats: Another from my Books wishlist! I'm pretty sure I already know my cat wants to kill me, but this book looks funny anyway.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Stationary, from my Silly Fun list. I have no one to write to, but I have an obsession with pretty stationary and cards and things. I'm usually too afraid to write on it, even, because nothing ever seems worthy of the pretty paper...
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life: From my Movies/TV list: Braveheart! Because FREEEDOOOOOOM!!!!!
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain: Survival knife from my Adventure wishlist! Secluded, unpopulated areas are best for hiding from zombies, and this thing even comes with a firestarter! HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: This book which is, strangely, on my Semi-Practical list. I'm a Math/Physics major, but I haven't been in school in quite a while. I'm about to go back very soon, and I'm a little petrified of failing out.
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Red Heart yarn from my Crochet wishlist!
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item: The PS4 from my Video Games list. I'm an avid gamer. Video games are how I relax. It's one of the few things that, no matter how crappy my day was, always manages to raise my spirits and help me forget about it all.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Apparently bread boxes are way bigger than I thought, so I'll go with this desk off my Semi-Practical wishlist. Surely that's big enough! XD
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Turtle earrings off my Silly Fun list! THEY'RE SO CUTE!
16.) Something that smells wonderful: Teavana's Blueberry Bliss tea off my Silly Fun list (yet again). If you've never been in a Teavana store, go this second and just...inhale. <3
17.) A (SFW) toy: Frog mitt from my Practical list. I'm fairly certain this isn't supposed to be a toy, but I get the feeling I'm going to spend more time using it as a puppet than as an oven mitt.
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: This backpack from my Semi-Practical list! I want it so badly!! IT'S STUDIO GHIBLI HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: 12 Hole Ocarina from my Ocarina wishlist. It's so beautiful and it comes with a Lord of the Rings songbook and I just LOVE IT SO MUCH.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Shark sleeping bag from my Silly Fun wishlist! You need me to explain it's awesome?? REALLY? IT'S A SHARK SLEEPING BAG. It looks like the shark is eating you!! Plus it's called the "Chumbuddy" and that just makes me laugh way harder than it should.
Fear cuts deeper than swords!
UGH I JUST REMEMBERED TO FINISH THIS BRB
EDIT: Okay here it izzzz.
These are the items you are looking for... (everything listed is from my wishlists here! )
1.) Something that is grey. – The bike lock on my wishlist (that was already gifted (: ) This one’s grey!
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. These leggings are Doctor Who Cosmic Tardis Leggings are cosmic… as in galaxy… as in the universe… in which there is a water cycle…. Which is reminiscent of rain…. Yup. ;)
3.) Something food related that is unusual. – It’s not every day you get to have jagermeister infused gummy bears....... Freaking nom.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) – A dog bed for my puppy!! He really, really needs a new one.
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! – YOU NEED TO READ THE HOUSE OF LEAVES IT’S SO CRAZY AND I LOVE IT AND … AT SOME POINTS… YOU READ IT UPSIDE DOWN AND CRAZY AND INSIDE OUT AND OMFG WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING READING THIS GO READ THIS NOW
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! This with the value of 95 cents ;) hehehe I’m sneaky.
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (Keep this SFW; you know who you are...) -- This cat bed, even though I don’t have a cat, was on my puppy’s list! My puppy (who’s really a 9 year old dog but I call him puppy cause he looks/acts/is one) is a 6lb pup who’s basically a cat ;)
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. – The Chuck Complete Series Collector Blu-ray is not necessarily useful to my life…But the show’s so gorgeous, the cast so beautiful, the plot so delicious…I love it and need it! :P
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? – TANGLED!! (OK, one of the only movie related pieces on my list :P) But really, Tangled is PERFECT, SO adorable, a real winner.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. – Okay this may seem crazy but stick with me here. these bones would be super helpful once whittled down. You could use it to double tap those stanky ass zombies
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I have lots of stuff for fitness and school and all my goals likes that, but I thought I'd use something a little different for this one. This skin corrective cream would allow me to cover up my stupid little burn marks on my leg that make me really self conscious in skirts and shorts. This would be a good step in my goal of being happy with myself and gaining self confidence for the first time in my life.
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.– One of those pesky add-ons… The MSC Joie Simply Slice Strawberry Slicer on my WL is one of them pesky add-ons.
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item, why? – A Bike. Why? Mine was stolen and its extremely hindered my mobility as I need it for transportation to school /:
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. – The puppy bed on my puppy’s wishlist within my own wishlist is most definitely bigger than a breadbox.
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. -- These cable organizers HOLLAH at me, Tiger Woods.
16.) Something that smells wonderful. -- French Vanilla Green Mountain Coffee Portion Packs for Keurig Mmmmmmmmm, delicious.
17.) A (SFW) toy. -- Crock Pot COOKING IS LIFE AND HAVING A CROCK POT WOULD BE THE BEST OF TOYS. For something more traditional, I have hedgehog toys etc on my puppy's list.
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. -- This beautiful backpack! Mine is shot to hell and I'm dreading buying a new one.
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. This Friends Milkshake Poster Print from my wishlist OMFG I AM OBSESSED WITH FRIENDS RIGHT NOW. IDK WHY BUT I AM. Also with the Chuck DVD on my dreams list xD
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.– The New York Window Print Poster on my wishlist is pretty awe-inspiring. Looking into the city "where dreams are made of" in whatever town your in.... In a place that's essentially the culmination of all your dreams and desires.... At least for me.

BONUS ITEMS
Finally, some people say that fear cuts deeper than swords but does it? Who knows.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY I LOVE YOU
I'd love love love love love love love this Superman sack bag!
Thanks for the contest!
If you have around a $50 budget for a 4 year old, I would suggest a multi-gift deal, like getting some kind of art kit but I'd say the better idea would be some sort of pony themed bag as a base and then you can put other stuff inside it and the bag is a thing the kid can use for a while.
4 year olds are at the phase in their development where they should be drawing more and developing their pattern skills, so maybe some crayons and a bound sketchbook (4 yr olds don't really have the motor skills to rip paper off crayons if they break, so this set is good bc they can still use them easily if it breaks, plus it being in a case will help even if they eventually end up in the kid's bag, plus this is a pretty good brand).
I think a phonics box would also be a great addition for a 4 year old! Also socks are always a must have in the homeless community, so why not some pony themed socks they sell these in every major department store.

If I had a $50 budget for a 4 year old who liked my little ponies that's what I'd get them.
A MLP bag, good crayons, a sketchbook, a phonics case and some socks.
Hope this helps!

This item would be a wonderful addition to my school supplies. It would be meant for relaxing after a long day of studying for my final Potions exam, of course.
This item would be perfect for helping to clean off Seamus Finnigan in our Transfiguration class. He's always getting himself blown up.. OR...This item because they also have bristles and are good for cleaning up bugs. Absolutely perfect for Herbology!
This would be perfect to bring for warmth when sending out post in the winter. I mustn't forget my owl!
Something to help me study for my Care of Magical Creatures class. Don't know what I'd do without it. But surely this would help me at least carry such items since I'd have many to drag around from class to class.
A final thing that would help with my magic school endeavors, a secret place to hide Neville's toad, Trevor. (Or to hide my student-illegal potions and whatnot :P).
BONUS!!
Yes. Cherries. need them now.
First off you have my sympathies, for your loss. And some internet hugs! I've never lost anyone so I can't say I understand, but I know it hurts and im sorry.
I included a bunch of things to represent what I think people might have on their wishlists. If I win Sort My Priorities and surprise me!
Japanese Candy kit I'm sure snacks are a big hit on peoples WLs. I want one of these specifically for my son.
Backpack/rucksack Classes are starting back up for many including me so these might be in high demand soon.
New Shoes Again classes are starting soon, if not for parents maybe for their kids. OR maybe people need new shoes to prepare for a climate change. I live in Indiana and weather is insane, so I try to always have boots and flats.
Seeds I have a ton of seeds on my WLs. They are usually cheap, and they make my yard pretty!
Thanks so much for hosting, and good luck everyone. I wish your Debit card super speed on its journey to you!
Thanks for the contest :)
Under $10. Body scrubs are amazing and they make your legs feel so good if you scrub them and then shave them. This one is also on my wishlist.
Pikachu backpack. So cute. I love Pokemon too! I do not have this on my wishlist as I have one already haha.
Pikachu iron on.
This is a bonus one, I came across it and it is too funny to not show everyone. Cute, right?
Okay, here we go. But first I have to say, I don’t know /u/overlyapologeticguy very well, but every time I see his posts they a) make me smile and b) want to be a better person. So I feel like he deserves everything and more! I hope to get to know him better on the thread :) (This does not mean I won’t go weird with the suggestions!)

yodo Upgraded Kids Insulated Toddler Backpack with Safety Harness Leash and Name Label - Playful Preschool Kids Lunch Bag, Dinosaur https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WO92FE4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3tmvDbP2GWF73
I just got this one off Amazon. I will say its slightly too big. It doesnt tighten enough around him but it doesnt slip off either. Honestly, I was prepared to get disapproving stares but a lot of people smiled and commented on how adorable he was with it. It's been a life saver because he doesnt want to be in the stroller anymore. And hes been much more well behaved while out!
I'm guessing you're going to get this backpack. There's no unicorn-rainbow-kitties-pink-glitter backpack, so that's the best I could do. :)
My favorite backpack (right now) is this one. The one I have is yellow. It's amazing. The back is rigid, there's a soft pocket for your laptop and a small soft pocket for your phone, it holds a ton and stays well balanced, works really well on a bike... I love this backpack. Super versatile.
I'll post a look if I get a chance this week! :)
this is the first thing I thought of when I read she likes pandas. I also think this is adorable or maybe this one. This is slightly more than $25 (only by a couple of cents) but I love it for myself haha. If you don't think she'll like that one there's this version. Last but not least, maybe she'll enjoy this so she can show it off.
purple nurple
Bonus question 1 answer being PMed. I've searched and searched and I can't find your name :(
Raffley goodness: In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.
owl backpack I have one of these bags (the monkey one) and I have used it as my diaper bag for a long time and now my son likes to carry his cars in it
owl pull toy These are lots of fun
Melissa&Doug flapping owl Always loved M&D toys for my son
owl percussion set Musical owl instruments!
busy bead tree This one is 21.75 but they are fun for kids
I could do this all day...love too find gifts for people :)
I've been using this for the last year:

I work doubles about 4-5 days a week and I could stuff all my meals for the day into it. It was tight but it worked.
Just this week I got a new one because the one above started to come apart... which I understand because I lug it around everywhere with me. here is the new one I got:
link
It's nice, but a little too small. I have to really cram everything in this one to fit it all. I pretty highly recommend the first one and a large ice pack.
I'm a huge fan of the Ogio backpack. I have two. One I've had for almost two years (Like 1 year and 10 months), http://www.amazon.com/Renegade-Laptop-Tablet-Backpack-Black/dp/B0076D099Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1377711292&sr=8-3&keywords=ogio+laptop and it's still going strong. I use it for work, and for a large laptop i need to use for work. I have had another one for 7 years: http://www.amazon.com/OGIO-711105-Black-Metro-Streetpacks-Black/dp/B000NDQNNW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377711276&sr=8-1&keywords=ogio+metro and it still works great.
Of course, none of these work for a 5yo, they are way way too big. Might I suggest one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003HS5JMQ/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got one for my 4 yo, and it works great for preschool, it's well made BUT, it might not be big enough for normal school. You have to fold a standard piece of paper.
My wife has a Jansport backpack she's used for like 20 years, and it's still being used. But I can't speak from personal experience. That might be the way to go as well.
I'm hunting for a new backpack, preferably made of waxed canvas.
I've found a bunch of cheaper canvas backpacks with the right style on Amazon. Sadly, the majority of the comments share the same point that it has cheap stitching, or that the clasp are flimsy and are easy to break.
Does anyone know of a place to buy a backpack with a similar/identical style but are in a better quality? I'd like one that can last me for a long time.
Thanks!
Example of backpack style: https://www.amazon.ca/SMARSTAR-Fashionable-Backpack-Rucksack-28x16x42cm/dp/B00FSAV1E6/ref=pd_sim_sbs_198_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2KRXNV7B09J1P12J2X8C
That should have been merchandise, first off. But let me give you some examples:
Whether it's lunchboxes, t-shirts, backpacks, underwear, pajamas, costumes, the animated series, etc. it's all the classic costume. Always. There's a reason for that: Superman has a strong brand identity, and it's one people are comfortable with. Same thing with Batman, Wonder Woman, and to a lesser extent, Green Lantern, Flash and the lesser-known characters. There might be minor variations here and there (a color palette shift in Batman's costume was probably the last major one that stuck), and it's because it resonates with people. The characters have been around long enough that even a casual fan knows what Superman's costume "should" look like.
At that age I was always into showing my love of my favorite things on my stuff sooooo I thought she might like this
I bet people wanted to give me a purple nurple when I was a junior because I carried a Spongebob backpack. Yep...it's true.
Super Fan! Love this show!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072QL2LG9
I can’t find the exact one, but I use a backpack like this one. The clear front zippered pouch allows you to keep your pins displayed and protected.
Edit: added a word
I found a great one on Amazon. Perfect size for my little guy because all e ones in the stores are for elementary school kids and way too big for toddlers or preschoolers. If you don't like the style I'm sure the related items will suit.
AKDY AK-787392M 52 Inch Tempered... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I3HJMYQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Like others had said, we do use the SkipHop backpack. They are cute, affordable, and durable. Decent storage too--we actively make our little one carry her snacks and diapers in there, haha.
Is owl a brand? You have it capitalized like it is. Or do you mean just general school supplies with pictures of owls on them?
I have no idea where to go if it's a brand, but Urban Outfitters downtown usually has some random owl-patterned things. Indigo was also good for those kind of things, but I think they're closed now, so maybe Chapters?
And for binders you can always get the ones with a translucent pocket over the cover that you can slip a sheet of paper into, and customize it with whatever pictures you want. That's what I did all through high school - much cheaper than buying new binders every year.
I also found this if you're not adverse to online shopping.
Thanks!! I got the backpack on amazon but it says its not available right now, which is odd. Cheeseburger Backpack
I made the shield from this foam board i found at home depot. I cut the edges off to make it round, then use a sand paper to give the shield the rounded edges. its SUPER light, which is so nice.
Can't you buy something like this and use that to carry your food? I don't know anything about it, but it had 4.5 stars with a lot of reviews and was fairly inexpensive. I'd make a lot of food that was good cold.
Also, do you go back to a central location at any point during the day or are you out from the beginning to the end? Could you store food in a larger cooler or a fridge that you stop at once a day so you didn't have to carry all of your food with you all day? If not, I would recommend finding something lightweight to package the food in. Carrying 5lbs of tupperware containers would be a pain.
You should look into what backpackers do. Here is an article about carrying food while backpacking. They normally aren't planning on carrying ice and are going for multiple days, so you could switch out a lot of the dried backpacker focused food for more fresh stuff, but keep the same ideals in mind when planning what you'll be carrying.
[could be the best messenger bag ever] (http://www.amazon.com/STUDIO-GHIBLI-Fashion-Neighbor-backpack/dp/B00BK8CIL0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=34LLK3MTGYBYF&coliid=I88FI7I4ALU5G)
here's the same backpack on amazon with better pictures and a couple of reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/AUGUR-Fashionable-Backpack-Rucksack-28x16x42cm/dp/B00FSAV1E6
We got a regular harness and also a backpack harness for our 19-month-old. He wears his backpack to walk into daycare and knows that means we're going somewhere. We used it when we went to Disney in December, and when we went to the zoo in September, and both went really well. We both prefer to hold his hand but being a toddler he's still inclined to drop hand and run, so having that tether helped a ton.
Lots of people have that "Oh my god, why would you put your child on a leash! It's not a dog!" Screw the haters, it means my kid is never more than three feet from me in a crowded place.
Where's the aspirin =D
I could really. Really. Really. use a new backpack
Get a cooler that looks like a backpack. This one holds over a case.
