I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's vision loss, and I hope Alexa can help keep her engaged and entertained! In addition to what's already been mentioned, here are some skills she might like:

  • NPR Wait Wait Quiz - "Alexa open wait wait quiz" -- this lets her play a weekly version of the quiz on NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me show, and it's a fun way to keep up with the news.
  • You Choose Global Discovery - "Alexa, open global discovery" - This was designed to teach history to kids, but if she's a history buff, she might enjoy it. It's a choose-your-own adventure story model that lets you choose from different time periods like Oregon trail, westward expansion, and the golden age of pirates. The Oregon Trail story line is free, but you have to pay for an expansion pack to play the other story lines.
  • Who Wants to be a Millionaire - "Alexa, open who wants to be a millionaire" - It's a quiz game based on the popular TV show with new content daily.

Hey there, I just released my first ever game on Alexa, I'd really appreciate it if you could check it out and let me know what you think. It's completely free to play.

I really like this concept! I'm happy for you to review mine if you like - Popcorn Quiz - a movie-based trivia quiz.

I don't use that skill but I was curious about it, so I went and had a look at Amazon. If you read the most recent reviews it looks like this skill is extremely buggy.

well it depends what you're after. if you wanna make an app anyone can enable and enjoy on their own devices, you make a skill like so. if you wanna make a meme, you do as you suggested and must learn the power of theater.

I just got my new skill certified and published. It looks up information on Star Wars characters using the Star Wars API. I'm planning to add more features to look up like information on the planets, movies, etc., but for now it's just characters.

I know there are some issues with it, such as Alexa not understanding the names of some lesser known characters, but it works for the big ones like Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, etc. I'd appreciate anyone trying it out!

Im guilty of creating trivia skills. But only because of you want to be rewarded with the possibility of any monetisation that's the avenue available to skill developers....
But according to some of my reviews they are just not fun at all...

This reminds me of when I launched a simple randomizer skill a while back. Some clown immediately was like "Alexa, ask Randomizer Pro to roll 50 billion dice" and started chewing through my lambda compute budget (amazon charges by the millisecond for every request) as I faithfully simulated 50 billion random dice rolls. I've since put a cap on that skill but it was definitely an eye opening 'end users suck' experience.

Hey, I've created a new skill and I am looking for reviews

Oh THAT'S what happened? I was wondering where it went. That's too bad, I reached out to them a long time ago offering help and never heard back.

But yeah, there's a ton of niches IN gaming that could succeed so well. Esports is a big one. Could also be board games, retro games (check out Video Game of the Day for that), racing games. Hell, Fornite alone would attract tons of kids to listen.
