I would suggest getting some french provincial furniture on craigslist, painting it white and dressing it up a bit with new hardware, as a start. :) Could you paint the brick in the fireplace? Maybe some pretty fake flowers in a vase on the mantle. Amazon is a godsend for fake flowers.

I would also move the loveseat in front of the curtained window, get a pretty white console and have that and the TV facing from the opposite side of the room.

FWIW, console ideas:

1, 2, 3

I'm not advocating buying those EXACT consoles, necessarily, those are just some ideas for inspiration. :) I personally would pick a style and try to find the best match/best deal on either Amazon or Craigslist.

Your loveseat would be lovely with a shabby chich style. I would consider getting an end table like this:

Sorry, I know I'm all over the place with this recommendations!

Fact: bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Gallactica (The office is one of my all-time favorite shows, by the way, so you rock!

That's one truly impressive collection you have going on there. Are you crafty? It would be awesome to make your own shelf to put these on. You could possibly even get some plexiglass to put in the front of it so they wouldn't fall off and break. I'll warn you, though, if you go this route plexiglass is very hard to cut without it shattering.

OR, you could make a table with a display inside of it, and choose some of your favorite bells. You could turn them sideways so you could see them better. [This one] (http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Enterprises-Valley-Cocktail-Table/dp/B004O6M45U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416411269&sr=8-1&keywords=display+coffee+table&pebp=1416411271632) is quite expensive, but it gives you an idea on what it could look like. Whatever you wind up doing, please come back with a picture of it. A collection like that deserves to be prominent and appreciated.

I recently purchased a town house, after renting a room for several years. Didn't have any furniture other than the bedroom essentials, so I had a pretty blank slate to work with.

I realize the layout isn't ideal, given the lighting and open floor layout (opens up to the dining room and kitchen), but I was more concerned with having a good hangout environment than having the prefect viewing experience. The only other option was an above ground basement, which would have had the same lighting issue, though better acoustics.

The lighting isn't as bad as it appears in the picture, imo. I've never really had a problem with it, though I do spend most of my time relaxing in the evenings when there is no direct sunlight coming from those windows. Even then, the Samsung seems to handle it well.

EDIT:
Additional pictures of the cable management.

For the wall I used some 1/4" shaped wiremold from Home Depot. Sanded and spray painted it to match the existing 1/4" Round. For the rest of the power cables and such, I modified the middle drawer of an Ikea cabinet to hide them away and give me easy access. I'm still not quite sure what to do about the remaining outlet wires, but other than that there aren't any other visible cables.

EDIT 2:
Since I've been asked about pretty much every piece short of the coffee table, I figured I would update this post to consolidate that info. Most of these items I bought used or on sale.

cool carpet, although it's not my ideal color type, it seems to fit with your couch. You can add some indoor plants here, add some side tables having shelves where you can add your favorite books like this one or this one or something that will match your existing furniture, or if you got some collectible, you can add it. You can also invest with some lightings like this one, you can add some wall art here like a multi-panel like this one here or a single panel like this one here or you can have a custom one depending on what you like

by the way, you got a great area for a living room.

admittedly, they’re not high quality pieces. just something temporary. our tv stand’s legs didn’t line up with their screw holes, so we had to tap our own, but an email to their customer service ended up getting us a free tv stand!

the coffee table is decent. no issues assembling, & i think it looks great.

as for the rug, we stumbled upon a vendor at the local farmers market, so i can’t help you out too much there.

best of luck!

Amazon. Got this 11/26, have not reviewed it yet. Lucky it arrived in one piece, as many reviewers said it arrived damaged. Had to slightly adjust one of the door latches. It's nice enough, has been hand detailed, but the surface is rough in some spots.

Personally think it is a bit overpriced, but one of the best aspects of this buffet is that it is indeed only 11 inches deep. Perfect for a small space.

u/orange-blossom · 11 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

This room is so big! Rotate that couch 90 degrees to face the TV and push it closer. Ditto for the rug. Place the armchair on the opposite diagonal corner. Get a sofa table for behind the couch and/or a console table for the right wall (a bookshelf would look good there as well). Curtains for those French doors. Honestly with space like this, I'd consider wall-to-wall shelving around your tv like this or (cheaper) like this. Alternatively, paint the TV wall an accent color or put in a wood facade.

Put some art on that right-hand wall and consider more recessed lighting or sconces to illuminate it. Go bigger with your coffee table (one | two | three) and stock it up with games! Bring those navy, cream, and brick red accents into your throw pillows. Don't forget some luxe throw blankets and a big basket to keep them in. Also, floor plants!

If you're using this space for entertaining, why not set up a bar cart/cabinet? Get a nice sound system for that TV.

Hellllllllllpppppp

I've always struggled to find a sectional I like and now I found one I LOVE but it only comes in 2 shades of grey and I don't know how it will look with the tables I've picked out and the general colour scheme of rich jewel tones (which I have picked)

I haven't gotten any of the things I'm linking yet and won't be for a while (because dreams are expensive) but can someone see if they can picture these today with jewel tones blankets and pillows (rich burgundies, deep purple, royal blues, etc)

It’s from amazon! Rivet Meeks Round Storage Basket... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0792HCFJR?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I wanted the grey but it was literally twice the price for some reason. It looks good without the basket too - there’s a shelf underneath it that matches the table top.

Edit to add: ok wow apparently all the colors are up to $119 now. I paid $58.17 less than a month ago. Maybe set up an alert on camelcamelcamel.com to see if the price drops again?

I'm in exactly the same position as you, the best thing I can advise is to search amazon or dept. store websites for "corner TV stands." They're still made with modern TV's in mind but they do tend to have a wider depth and support more weight. You could also look into a modestly sized coffee table. Here's a link to what I have my eye on: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074YYG5G6/?coliid=I17SUKDA5UA09N&colid=1Z3PM7ZKAFFQH&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I think ultimately, to get the ideal setup you'd probably have to build your own. I was hoping the Ikea Kallax had enough depth to support the PVM, but not only is it not, I don't think I'd trust it with the weight of the PVM regardless.

I made this so I could visualize it myself. Simple and minimalist, so it seems fairly low maintenance. I like a black painted wood bench (add some pillows for your style), a black metal end table, and simple decor like potted plants and oversized lanterns. I think the curtain helps close in the area and make it look more cozy. I know this style isn't for everyone and may not exactly match your house exterior, but let me know if you like it :)

just like everything electronic and small it costs a pretty premium, but based on your situation (small space, large tv) its probably the best option if you dont want to get a small desk. Your other option is something like a pair of these which will set you back a bit less but IMO be a much less elegant way to do it.

u/anunknowngoat · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

I'd do a nice shag carpet trailing from beneath that bed, and maybe a light-wood blanket chest at its foot. If you're going for mid-century modern, as per the lamp and pillows, I'd try for some matching artwork, and perhaps some pop-art canvas prints, on the wall. Definitely a big, fat, personally resonant poster, on the wall above the headboard. That heating unit by the radiator is THIRSTY for plants! I'll be honest, I'm not in love with that mirror. If you could somehow remove that wavy border, that'd be better. Maybe install a bureau/chest of drawers beneath it, to give the impression of a (slightly more butch) vanity. You might try putting the bed against the mirror, just to see how that looks. As for nightstands, probably go metal and wood, just like the bed. Maybe [this] (https://www.amazon.com/SONGMICS-Nightstand-Stackable-Furniture-ULET54X/dp/B0783PDVTH/ref=sr_1_10?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1541258272&sr=1-10&keywords=metal+nightstand) or [this] (https://www.amazon.com/SONGMICS-Vintage-Assembly-Furniture-ULET41X/dp/B074WNTK3Q/ref=sr_1_5?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1541258272&sr=1-5&keywords=metal+nightstand). I just did a "metal nightstand" search, on Amazon. Wayfair might have more interesting options.

Hah, I love it! If you're looking for a similar concept at a cheaper price point, how about this , or this. They're glass instead of acrylic, but they might be more within your reach.
Either way, I think the living room looks great! Nice work!

u/PhilNtheBlanks · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Thanks for the reply! Yes I went out and bought a siphon today to clean that fish tank.

For the coffee table I was thinking maybe something like this :

https://www.amazon.com/DHP-Parsons-Modern-Coffee-Espresso/dp/B009OBA2V8/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539474486&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=coffee+table&dpPl=1&dpID=31wvApT0MJL&ref=plSrch

I plan to do maybe a dark wood vinyl in the future. so I believe that'd match pretty good.

As far as curtains go I am a little lost as to what color to go with..
