The C40 modules are a "wear and tear" item. That being said, there should be no reason for them to wear out this quickly under normal use. You should be able to fix stutter and dead zones by cleaning the potentiometers within the module or replacing the potentiometer sensor wheels inside the module without the need to solder in a new analog sensor. Replacement of the analog sensor might be necessary in some cases. I usually have a bunch of new sensor modules on hand so I can do my own repairs and use them for parts as the components within them are mostly identical and interchangeable. They are readily available via Amazon, Ebay, etc.

Here is a video (not mine) explaining the cleaning and sensor wheel replacement process on a DS4 but the procedure will be much easier on the C40 module due to easier disassembly.
