You can pick up an Aimpoint Pro on Amazon for $435. That's >$30.

u/midnightblade · 7 pointsr/gundeals

Seems like a pretty good deal considering the optic sells for $420 on amazon Here.

So it's like you're paying $480 $580 for a full M4 style AR-15. Doesn't seem to be marked up very much to me.

=( My math is bad as /u/MyFishIsGold pointed out

Hey, we can always try to help you. Ar15.com might have a better forum but that's a semi-closed off website compared to reddit.

Just from the looks of it the Sig Micro Red dot you posted looks a lot like an Aimpoint T2. The Aimpoint is top of the line (think, best you can really purchase) as far as quality is concerned. I'll be the first to admit I don't hear much good or bad about Sig Optics so I won't act like I know how well they hold up.

An entry level red dot would be something like the Holosun for 170$ compared to the 340$ you might pay for the Sig Dot you mentoined earlier.

In my opinion, there's three tiers of optics you can buy. You can buy horrible Chi-Com shit from China that will cost you 35$ total. You can buy entry level optics like the Holosun, Vortex, or Sig (low price to high), or you can go all in and get a top shelf optic like an Aimpoint, Trijicon, or [debatably] an EoTech.

If you're worried about "overpaying" for low quality, but you're willing to spend 350-400, buying an Aimpoint PRO would be right in your realm. You'll receive extremely high quality glass for a decent price. They retain their value over the years, and if your husband knows anything about firearms, he'll be super happy with throwing it on a rifle. (edit: your post history says your husband is familiar with Special Operations Units, so I know he'll have heard of Aimpoint).

Buying him a Holosun or the Sig red dot would be a good alternative, but if you can justify it in your budget, get him something you know he'll be happy with. An Aimpoint is hard to beat. He can save up another 200$, re-sell the PRO and upgrade himself to a Aimpoint Micro if he's looking for that style of optic down the road.

If you really want to be running a copy, then you'll want to get a 14.5" barrel.

Here's the build I would run to copy the above, feel free to make edits to your liking:

I don't think I'll ever lose money, or too much money on this deal. It's a $750+ optic new. You get it for $300+ less here. The aimpoint pro is probably well worth the price at $400+, but why wouldn't I go with one of these over that?

I split the difference and bought complete upper and lower for my first "build." Spike's Tactical complete lower and BCM KMR Alpha 15 complete upper. Added the BCM bolt carrier group, a sexy, red Strike Industries charging handle, and MBUS sights and viola! My first AR. I added an Aimpoint PRO and a Strike Industries sexy red foregrip a few days later. Then a J-comp... Oh, and a few PMAGs... They say an artist never really finishes a work, only abandons it...

But seriously, buy a completed upper and lower and you'll have a very easy time your first time. The upper and lower attach with literally 2 pins. Insanely easy. Once you've put one together that way and held it in your hand and got a feel for it, then you'll start thinking about how you want to change the trigger or what kind of stock you'd like better and then those tasks won't seem as intimidating.

Please note: Those links above are the result of quick Google searches to show the products I'm referring to. They are NOT good prices at least compared to what I spent. I just wanted to make it easier to see what I was referring to but didn't want to go bargain hunting all over again.

Ok I get that some people like to spend $ on top quality stuff an Aimpoint Pro is pricy... considering the Sport M&P goes for $750-$800 range the damn sight is half the price!! If you are honestly gonna use the rifle to just go to the range and practice or something other than non warfare activities consider a sight more cost efficient... Don't sleep on something like a Sightmark I have it on my M&P 15 OR and its legit! Yes I'll eventually get an EOtech when I have the funds but something expensive as fuck just to start off with if silly IMO... if you want a picture on how my Sightmak looks on my rifle PM me.

Thanks for the reply. I will be using it with NVG for hog hunting, so that is a must. I was looking at the Aimpoint Pro: http://www.amazon.com/Aimpoint-PRO-Patrol-Rifle-Optic/dp/B007GDR0I4/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395002070&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=aimpoint
Have you ever used one, if so, what are your thoughts on it?

I do like the idea of a x4 scope, but would want a smaller package than 14in long (assuming I read the dimension correctly).

Okay, so in my opinion your best bet is to either do what /u/JustARandomCatholic suggests, or to get an FN-15 tactical with the P-Lok rail and get an Aimpoint PRO and either an Inforce WML or a used Surefire 951 off ebay and a Malkoff M61 drop-in LED bulb.

Prove it.

It's never gone below $390 on amazon, pretty good estimation of average price. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Aimpoint-PRO-Patrol-Rifle-Optic/product/B007GDR0I4

Ok, that’s a weird law. Wasn’t familiar. Here’s a good option for you that will be MD legal.

Not much more than the RRA you’re looking at and it comes with the Colt name and QA. Use the extra $$ to pick up an Aimpoint PRO and drop in quad rail.

You should be able to ask them to swap in an MD legal magazine when you order.

Colt 6721 Carbine

Aimpoint PRO

Midwest Industries Quad Rail

This setup will be top of the line, bombproof quality and the rifle and optic will outlast you.

Aimpoint PRO's go on sale for around $400 or less. lapolicegear.com had them for $360 shipped a few weeks ago. The Aimpoint is actually cheaper than the Stirke Eagle and the cantilever mount, so it seems like a very fair trade to me.

I'd very much recommend coughing up the extra $48 for an Aimpoint P.R.O. (Patrol Rifle Optic). Top of the line, exceptionally durable/reliable, and very reasonably priced red dot. Literally perfect for the X95. Superior even to most acogs or holo sights. 10/10.

I have the same gun. BTW you will NOT regret the purchase. This gun will do everything a $1000-1500 gun will do. If i were you id fist swap out the stock for one with a recoil pad this is a good one here:

https://www.magpul.com/products/moe-sl-carbine-stock-mil-spec

(to save you research the stock specs for your gun are carbine & mil-spec)

Next would be an optic. I really like the vortex optic below:

But i ended up going with an aimpoint pro because i got a good deal.

Aimpoint Pros are pretty popular and relatively inexpensive while high quality. The battery life is something on the order of 3-4 years even left on. I'm actually considering selling one to help fund a cross country move.
