How?

The products are out there.

Just to name a few:

https://smile.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Gaming-GeForce-GX-792-703D/dp/B01N353QOO

https://smile.amazon.com/Strix-GL502VS-Gaming-Laptop-i77700HQ/dp/B01NALTGWN

These Max-Q SKUs are not replacing the existing laptop GPU lineup. Just giving more options to people who wants higher performance in thin and light form factor.

Saying the same thing over and over again doesn't make it true.

I use windows a lot in my day job :) haha...

anywho it really comes down to preference and what you have to spend - see below. If you are more design oriented you may want to go with a Mac since a lot of designers may use Mac only software. So Take that into consideration.

I've found Vagrant (along with Puphpet ) pretty much invaluable for work and I haven't had any issues.. I've mostly set it and forget it.

As for the other people talking about the shell usage. I've found using either conemu or babun for everyting (including Bash on Ubuntu on Windows - damn that name is a mouthful haha) solves a lot of the "issues" others have. Then again I am used to a windows environment.

Money wise you'd have to either buy a used Macbook (non air or pro only comparison here) to even compare in price only to something like this Asus Strix GL502vs which has a NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card, Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor, 16gb of ram, and a 120hz G-Sync panel (which is more of a gamers thing I guess? I dunno I don't game haha. This is for $1600. Now if you add 4k to that it'll be a little more expensive but a Macbook with a i5 processor, 8gb ram and Intel HD Graphics 615 is the same price (https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook?product=MNYG2LL/A&step=config) so it really comes down to preference and how much money you're willing to spend in my opinion

u/Michiganders · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

There are a couple of 120HZ displays for under $2000 including the Eluktronics P650 for $1900 with a Kaby Lake i7-7700HQ processor, 32gb ram, a 512gb PCIE SSD, and a GTX 1070, making this a very powerful model, the Asus Rog Strix for $1650 with a Kaby Lake i7-7700HQ processor, 16gb ram, 128gb SSD + 1TB HDD, and a GTX 1070, and a third cheaper option with a TN panel instead of an IPS display is this configuration of the Eluktronics P650 for $1500 with a Kaby lake i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of ram, 256GB PCIE SSD and a 1TB HDD, and a GTX 1060dGPU.

A benefit to the Asus Rog Strix would be its portability (weighing 4.9 lbs) but you would sacrifice some cooling capabilities.
The cheaper P650 option would be less powerful and a TN panel display, but is a good budget option for less.

EDIT: not familiar with non American pricing, but hope I helped give you an idea

The 17' one with 500gb SSD is out of stock. I mean if you have a decent amount of money and can afford it then go for whatever you want. To me I think 2.8k for those specs is a bit much

u/mamaangry · 2 pointsr/GamingLaptops

This is what you need!

u/PADPeteZ · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I'll point you to the Strix with the 1070.

You may have to undervolt the CPU to reduce temperatures, but it comes at 4.8 pounds.

u/hateshisneighboors · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I have also been looking in this range, but am opting in for a g-sync 120 Hz unit with a GTX 1070. What I've found so far is below. If you or anyone else wants to jump in, please let me know the your thoughts.

Asus Zephyrus- Zephyrus - $1,999
15.6” Full-HD 120Hz Ultra-portable Gaming Laptop, GTX 1070, Intel Core i7, 256GB PCIe SSD, 16GB DDR4

This is an extremely portable gaming laptop, but has a janky keyboard and a premium price. The battery life is completely abysmal, but that expected for this type of system. This is basically the best (there is a GTX 1080 version for $2,500) laptop for raw power and size, but you have to deal with an interesting case design and pay for the portability with extra $ and worse battery life. However, at 0.7" thick and 4.9 pounds, it's a tough one to beat

Eluktronics Pro-X P650HS-G - $1,750
120Hz 5ms Gamers Edition Laptop PC - Intel i7-7700HQ Quad Core Win 10 Home 8GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 + G-SYNC 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD 16GB DDR4 RAM

My favorite so far. It's about $250 cheaper that the above Zeph, but has a more robust and complete build. The main downside is the unknown brand, potential reliability issues (most review I've read have been good though) and support. Plus it's not as portable as the flagship Asus at 1.13" and 6 pounds. I really like this unit because it has a lot of potential (EXTRA:1x SSD AND 2x HDD ports AND 3x DDR4 Slots) as well as some nice software add-ons. I'd mark this as the best bang for the buck and includes the ability to upgrade in the future

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VS-DS71 - $1,700
GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Core i7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4 DRAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 15.6", Black

Very solid laptop from a trusted brand with similar components as the above 2. However, the SSD is only 128GB and looks like its not NVMe. You will not get the same advantages with the other SSDs as it appears to be wired in SATA. This laptop is also most the same size as the Eluktronics at 1.2" and 4.9 pounds, but just doesn't seem as feature packed. However if you love the brand, it's a good step down from the Zeph.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL702VI-WB74 - $1,900
17" Full HD 120Hz Panel, Intel Core i7 2.8GHz GTX 1080 8GB, 16GB DDR4 256GB PCIe SSD 1TB HDD, Black Aluminum Hairline

Basically a beast of a laptop. It has an insane GTX1080 graphics card and just about every other feature you could want in this price range. The main downside is portability at 1.5" and 7.5 pounds. The added size should provide some better cooling and build strength, and a 120Hz G-sync display should look great on a bigger screen.

For you:

1. I'd definitely stick with a GTX 1070 8 GB card as the added ram over the 1060 6GB will help it last. Plus there are some great options in your price range.

2. If you don't have a high-end monitor, I'd highly recommend a g-sync system and look at some 120Hz reviews to see if it's worth it for you

3. Go for an NVMe SSD and a minimum of 16GB of ram

4. Keep the i7-7700HQ processor

After that, there aren't a whole lot of options. There are some good ones from MSI, Dell and Origin, but they all seem to be missing a key item that the above 4 had (G-sync, 120hz display, NVMe SSD, GTX 1070, etc.)

Now with all that said, can someone help me decide between these 4 and/or suggest something I may be missing. I am seriously torn between the above options and am also in need of a laptop

u/therave39 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I'd reccomend checking out the ASUS ROG GL502VS-DS71

Specs on it:

  • 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor
  • 15.6" G-SYNC 120Hz screen
  • 1920 x 1080
  • 128 GB SSD
  • 1 TB HDD
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with with 8GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM
  • Windows 10
  • 4.9 lbs

I purchased this laptop for my portable VR/Gaming setup, and have nothing but great things to say about it. Mine has some very minimal backlight bleeding on the screen (expected with the type of screen), but is otherwise gorgeous. The body feels incredibly sturdy, despite not being fully metal. I've been able to play every game at the highest settings with 75+ FPS and an incredibly smooth experience. If you're playing CSGO, you'd definitely appreciate the 120Hz screen!
u/xFrostbite13x · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

there's this great ROG laptop but a good alternative would be a custom built Clevo CLEVO P650HS-G. I configured it to be similar to the Asus by adding a 120Hz G-sync display and better Wi-Fi. Then i added 16GB of RAM and removed everything but the default 1TB HDD. You get a total of $1568 so you have enough leftover money to get an m.2 MX300 525GB for $150 to add yourself. The downside is you don't get windows, but i'm sure you could manage somehow.

u/The---Technician · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Over the Razerblade if I am gaming, I would prefer to get this ROG Strix GL502VS that has not just a bigger storage and refresh rate, but also has the G-SYNC technology that is a very nice to have in running AAA games. The build quality is not as brilliant as the blade, neither is it's general aesthetics, but another crucial area it will beat the blade in is where heat management is concerned and actually an area that is crucial to performance. This laptop also has a better graphics card in the gtx 1070 which not only increases gaming performance but makes this pick a more future proof one.

If you don't like the design of it, this ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 but which has a slightly older processor and slower refresh rate.

Desert cart is basically amazon on the backend and absurd prices on the front end . example : laptop costs 1699 $ , virgin sells it for 2200 $ (higher specs) & dessert cart sells it for 2400 $ . Dont buy from there .

EDIT : more accurate pricing and links to back up what i am saying .
Links for exactly the same items .

If you're looking to game or do intense tasks, the 1070 is the best fit graphics card for your situation. Unfortunately, it's basically impossible to get a super cheap 1070 laptop currently but here are a couple of options that come to mind for me right now:

The Acer Predator 15:
This option has a strong i7 6700hq in it and a nvidia 1070 in it. This should be enough to power what you're looking to do and it has 256 gb of SSD. The downside is it is very clunky and flashy which is the case with many gaming laptops.

The next is the Asus ROG STRIX GL502VS
This one is thinner and sleeker than the predator. It has a 1070 and an i7 7700hq. The downside to this one is only 128gb of SSD.

Both are very good laptops and there are some custom ones from boutique websites like GenTechPC for Sager/Clevo builds that can be very good but they often get to around $2000.

If you have any questions just let me know!

Something similar to this should suffice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NALTGWN/

If you really want a gaming laptop, this is my recommendation (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NALTGWN/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile). It will probably be around $1500 new on Black Friday, or you can just get it used for under $1500. However, I would still recommend a $1250 Desktop and a $250 laptop on Black Friday.

Check this out

Pick the 17.3” inch. It fits your budget, and it’s 4.8lbs. Out of topic, but are you a corpsman? I was in Okinawa, greenside a few years ago, now stationed in Atsugi.

Recently I had about the same price range and went with the ASUS ROG STRIX here (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NALTGWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KWM8Ab5BWZ2R2) as it was on sale for $1300. I absolutely love it and will swear by this machine. I haven’t left my Oculus Rift for days and haven’t encountered a single issue!

Zephyrus, of course! If you are a student the portability is gonna be really useful! You can also consider this one if you want to save some bucks!
Or this MSI piece of beauty

OP, this is what I have for programming/gaming/video editing and it's fantastic. Highly recommend. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NALTGWN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XxKGzbCCFKJJW

The panel is only 1080p but runs at 120Hz and is IPS. It's also not very heavy, but the power cable is a bit of a brick. To be expected though.

u/JabawaJackson · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This is the one I got, I bought mine used as well for the extra couple hundred off, practically brand new just not in original packaging.

u/EsotericGremlin · 1 pointr/laptops

I've also been looking at [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NALTGWN) which seems comparable, possibly better.

u/elvinelmo · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

In budget there are laptops with parts of what you want such as the Gigabyte P57Xv7-KL3 which is lightweight and has a GTX 1070 but it doesn't have G-Sync or 4k. The ASUS GL502VS is also lightweight but its display is not the best. Acer Predator 15 only lacks the 4k in your budget

u/ImNumber01 · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I've got a ASUS ROG Strix, GTX 1070 8GB, 7-7700HQ, 16GB DDR4 DRAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 15.6" - GL502VS-DS71 it doesn't meet all your requirements, but exceeds a the gpu one. Lemme know if you would be interested.

If you want to run brand new games, you'll want a 1070.

1070 in this budget needs a good cooling system, so I'd go with this.

You could go with this, but it runs a bit warm.

Another comment mentioned the Razer Blade with a 1080, I REALLY don't recommend it. It's over $4000, you would lose value for your performance. The 1080 isn't that much better than a 1070 to justify spending that much, especially for 1080p gaming. If the Razer was, let's say, $2500 or even $2300, I would recommend it. If you want 4K, the 1070 can play 4K between 30 and 60fps just fine in varying graphical settings. If you are on a tight budget, you could get a Dell with a 1050 for $900 but I don't recommend that in case there are other new games you want to play. I have a laptop with a 960m which is just a little less powerful and I often have to lower settings to play in 720p or 900p on low settings. The Dell won't last you long, but should play Monster Hunter in base console settings at 30fps.

u/HeWhoSpeaksVillain · 1 pointr/Alienware

This one can pass as a work laptop. It's thin and light and silver. Has that professional look to it. Spec is pretty good as well. Although it's 15", it's about the same size as the Alienware 13" due to the Alienware's bigger and better cooling design.
