Just ordered one on Amazon, listed with 1-2 day processing and now shipping delay.

While most tablet's docks aren't very sturdy, I know the perfect tablet for you. It is the Asus Transformer 700T. Here is the link to it on amazon.

With this tablet you can buy the optional asus dock for it. It is a FANTASTIC dock. Not only is it a great keyboard, but it also extends the battery life (gives you about twice as much battery overall). Furthermore, it actually CLIPS into your tablet so it effectively one unit. Incredibly sturdy. One would have to do some serious damage to the tablet in order to force remove it. It has a nice hardware "lock" it uses to connect the tablet to the keyboard.

I have the 200T and I LOVE it. The other advantage with the 700T is that it is also a really good tablet. Even though it is a bit old, it is defiantly one of the best tablets out there.

I think you may want to take a look at the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T. Although I have had no physical experiences with this device itself, I own the previous model, the TF300T. It has a beyond full HD screen, which would be great for his movies. Many reviews I've read claim the display is gorgeous, but, as I said earlier, I haven't seen it myself. It even has a built-in microHDMI port to output to a monitor or TV. With the TF300T, I can handle most of the tasks you listed above, both light and resource-intensive. Furthermore, it has a microSD card slot to meet your storage requirement.

The beauty of this tablet is that you can later choose to purchase a keyboard dock, which contains a full QWERTY keyboard, an extended battery, a trackpad and mouse buttons, a USB port, and an SD card slot, effectively turning the tablet into a netbook. The USB port and SD card are great for storage expansion, allowing for over 200 GB of storage. The USB port even works with wireless mice and keyboards, which is really great to use with the microHDMI out.

However, the Nexus 10 is the way to go when it comes to customization. While I haven't attempted to root my tablet or load a new ROM (which may be important to your husband), I'm sure it can't be that hard to do. However, this hassle would not exist on a Nexus 10. You'll have to weigh how important the different aspects are to you and see what he would like.

EDIT: Amazon's page is much easier to navigate than the ASUS page for the tablet, so here's an Amazon link. It'll help you answer any other questions you may have.

If you're really into using a keyboard, I suggest something in the ASUS department.

Windows 8:
Asus VivoTab Smart 64 GB, keyboard sold separately There's also a 32 GB version.

Android 4.0:
ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity, keyboard also sold separately.

General ASUS lineup.

You can also consider saving lots of money in getting a Chromebook in the Google Play Store. They run approximately $200-$250 USD depending on which one you get. Keep in mind though, it's 16 GB. The rest of it is mostly working in the cloud (offline Google Drive/Docs). I wouldn't imagine this to fit your "decent graphic power" though.

Interested in an Asus tf700t tablet? Comes with keyboard dock, carrying case, charger and screen protector. Rooted and installed CM11 on it.

I use an ASUS TF700T though it's pretty old now. There might be better options out there. I love mine though.

I should mention it's been rooted and has a pretty fast Lollipop rom on it which makes a big difference.

The screen resolution was the big requirement for me.

Amazon has a newer, even higher screen res model here for a little more money. I can't vouch for the performance though.

There are plenty of retailers if you don't mind waiting for it to be shipped. Newegg is a good choice, but you can't return it there unless it's defective. It's $600 for the tablet/keyboard combo.

You can also buy it from Amazon, but for the keyboard and tablet combo you'll be paying $40 more. However you have a few weeks to return it. If you haven't used a tablet before, it might be worth the extra money just in case you decide a tablet isn't for you. Hope this helps!

well, for one thing, the Nexus 10 gets the newest versions of Android. I'm pretty sure the Note 10.1 is on Ice Cream Sandwich still. Android 4.0. the Nexus 10 should be on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean now, with an update to 4.4 KitKat coming soon. the Nexus 10 also surpasses the Note 10.1 in processing power, with a dual core exynos 5 SoC, compared to the quad core exynos 4 in the Note 10.1. exynos 5 is Cortex A15 based, while exynos 4 is Cortex A9 based. a dual core a15 processor easily surpasses a quad core A9. the difference won't be that noticeable coming from an iPad, which basically has a CPU equivalent to a dual core Cortex A9. so either one is a pretty big jump in power for you. the Note 10.1 basically has the Micro SD card slot and the S-Pen that might make it worth doing. the UI on the Nexus is much more preferred by Android users as well. I'm not sure if you can use Nova Launcher on the Note 10.1 and still have all the S-Pen features be completely intact, but you should be able to.

both tablets are great, and while the Nexus 10 easily surpasses the Note in every way, if you want expandable storage, the note 10.1 is easier to do that on. you can also root the Nexus 10 and use Stickmount, and attach a flash drive or external hard drive.

after realizing it's an exynos 4 in the Note 10.1, I'm going to recommend another tablet. you might also consider an Asus Transformer. also a quad core A9 based processor, but this has what is, or is very close to, a pure Android UI, and it has a keyboard dock. the Transformer Infinity is a 10 inch tablet, has the keyboard dock, a Jelly Bean update, expandable storage, and a pure Android UI. I'd suggest putting Nova Launcher over it anyway, but still. I'd suggest checking Swappa, but if you want it new and have the money to spend, here's the amazon link. and it's sold separately, so don't forget the keyboard dock if you want it. it's regarded as one of the many reasons why those tablets are so great. the Transformer Infinity seems to offer everything you'd want and more.

if you need anything else, let me know. but I think I've got the best recommendation for you now, with the Asus Transformer.

OP, don't know if you bought that Nook yet, but for PDFs, I wouldn't go smaller than an 8" tablet. I have a 7" tablet (1200x800) and a Kindle 3, neither are great with PDFs. The tablet wins hands down, but is still not perfect.

My wife bought a 10" tablet a while back for school, it was much better for textbooks and image heavy PDF files. My wife had the ASUS MEMOPad 10", right now you can get it on Amazon for only $10 more than the NOOK you were looking at. Scratch that, this model is better. Faster processor, higher resolution, $5 less ($185) It's not a racehorse for games or anything, mind you, but for watching videos (youtube and netflix), and reading PDF textbooks it was perfect. SNES and PSX emulation were good on it too, if you're into that.

I'd recommend the ASUS Transformer Book 10.1" T100TAM-C1-GM Detachable 2-in-1 Touchscreen Laptop, 64GB. This tablet have windows 8.1 on it and goes for 360 on amazon. It'll do everything you want and then some incase you require more later.

Asus also makes a great tablet that has Android OS on it. ASUS TF700T-B1-GR 10.1-Inch Tablet (Gray) 2012 Model, it sells for under 200 on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008F4NL04/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_cXwAub159EW97

I have used the Android model for over 5 years now. It still works great. I've used the windows 8.1 model for almost 2 years and it's worked flawlessly as well.

Android tablets also come in a convertible form, like the Asus Transformer series.

There should be a bundle displayed on this page, just to add another option for OP. I've used Android on a laptop, with a mouse even, and enjoyed the experience.

u/tourqeglare · 0 pointsr/comicbooks

I like my old Asus Infinity thing. Great pixel depth, 10 inch screen, $100 average oddly lasting battery. The catch is that it is old and it sucks for anything that isn't Comic Rack or light web browsing. Emphasis on light. I knew that going in about it and I've been happy with it as just a novel and comic reader.

$806.02 off contract

For $20 more you could buy a Galaxy Nexus AND a transformer pad infinity. That's a high end tablet AND the latest Nexus phone.

A tablet phone hybrid is interesting, but not attractive until they have it at a competitive price point with buying the two separately.

The ASUS Padfone on the other hand, could be a good alternative to the Note 2 at $860.

At the risk of being downvoted to hell, I suggest you use this plus this. It gives you the flexibility of having a tablet when you want it, and has has the convenience of having a full on qwerty keyboard when you need to be taking notes or writing papers. It can be carried around as one device; so you don't need to carry a bluetooth keyboard or one of those clunky keyboard cases for the iPad. With the keyboard attached you get like 15 hours battery life and without it's around 9 or 10 hours. It's as cheap as an iPad 16gb but comes with 32gb internal storage and is expandable up to another 256gb with the micro sdxc and sdxc cardslots and it has another USB so you could attatch a mouse or usb key to it.

This is my honest opinion and I'm not bashing the iPad or MBA. I just think this is the best option for people who are not power users but want a tablet and a laptop.
