That's way to pricey for ice cube ball molds. I got one from Maker's Mark that looks like this http://amzn.com/B00KI7QZ5Y and it works. The one on Amazon is only $7.

There are cheap molds or fancy presses.
I always think the ice spheres are awesome or the wedge. Paired with a couple highball tumblers.
Or just something funny. Lastly, just spend your money on a half way decent whiskey. If you have a good liquor store, get a middle shelf beauty, they should be able to help you.

There's nothing wrong with chilling your scotch in the fridge.
Some other options: distilled water ice spheres (I use this to make them) will water your scotch less than ice cubes due to physics I don't understand.
You can also chill the glass, like a frosted beer mug, but I would line the glass you are going to put in the freezer to make sure it doesn't pick up any film.
If you want to drink your scotch slightly chilled but not refridgerator temperature and that's worth shelling out for a wine cooler for you, more power to you, it's the best option, I think, for the effect you're looking for. But if the temperature out of the fridge is all right by you, you will not harm your bottle by refridgerating it.

TIL - I have a thing for ice cubes.
The lid in that second pic looks perfect. I found these on amazon, but one of the comments said it leaves a little ring around the middle of the sphere. They're pretty small too though.
Maybe these sphere ice cube moulds because apparently you should have those in your whiskey, and why not some fancy looking whiskey tumblers ?
Or skip the two step shit and just get one of these things.
