Virtual Machines I'm currently running.
Splunk - Receives my FW, DNS, Snort, and OSSEC logs. I have dashboards to filter this data.
Snorby - Also receives my Snort logs. I like this a little better than Splunk as I can view packet contents.
OSSEC - I used this for file integrity and endpoint monitoring on my servers and desktop. Functions as a host based IDS.
Nessus - I use this every once in a while to see if there are any open holes. Otherwise, I just use nmap and iptables to close everything off.
Unifi Controller - for managing my AP.

Ubiquiti Unifi AP-AC Lite

My VMs, configs, and files are backed up to a HDD I keep offline. I'm thinking about adding a NAS into the mix for somewhere around 200-400 dollars. Low energy consumption preferably if anyone had any recommendations. :)
Some of those upgrades could be done MUCH cheaper on your own.
They charge $850 for a 1TB m.2 SSD. A 1TB Samsung 960 Evo runs $480
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-EVO-Internal-MZ-V6E1T0BW/dp/B01LXS4TY6/
Same with RAM. They charge you $280 for 32GB. You can buy that yourself for $180
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-16GBx2-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB8ME/
That knocks $500 off your purchase price for the same specs.
I'm not sure if System76 uses different motherboards for the various configurations. It's possible that you could do all these upgrades with just the base configuration, if the base configuration comes with an m.2 slot and 2 ram slots. Email them and ask about upgradability
I actually bought these originally, but setup a return as I thought they were too pricey:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015YPB8ME/

I still have them however, so I may run home and toss them in real quick and see what happens. I have not been able to determine however if these modules are ECC or not. I don't believe they are, and I have had a hard time finding ECC modules, but in fairness haven't looked real hard yet ;)
> Kingston HyperX Dimms
Did you use the 2133 MHz or 2400 MHz? Is ECC memory supported?
For example, which do you recommend?
You don't need the same brand of ram, just make sure that the sticks fit.
Try these sticks.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016W1PP5K/ - Transcend 512GB SSD
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015YPB8ME/ - Crucial 32GB RAM
Do you have any recommendations for ram? I'm not a tech guy but I hear Corsair Vengeance alot.
Corsair Vengeance 2666mhz
Kingston HyperX 2133mhz
Kingston HyperX 2400mhz
Crucial 2133mhz
Crucial 2400mhz
Which one would you say is the best for the r4 from above? Anything better?
Sorry for all the questions. I see you on a lot of threads and being a mod as well I thought you would be knowledgeable.
Thanks in advance.
I'm adding these two parts:
This SSD and
These RAM sticks to
this laptop
tonight.
What do I need to do besides put them in?
Do I need to download any drivers before removing the HDD and attempting to do a fresh install on my SSD? Will my computer boot with those RAM sticks being brand new? (There's only two RAM slots on my MOBO)
I have my important files backed up on DropBox, along with a Ninite for the programs I'd like to start with.
I plan on fresh installing Windows 10 on the SSD, and then reformatting my HDD so it's clear, but do I need to do anything else?
Do I really need to temporarily disconnect the hard drive when performing my fresh install?
Do I need to migrate my Lenovo (D:) Drive files (it's filled with what looks like my hardware drivers, was on the computer when I bought it) myself before reformatting my HDD, or will that automatically install on the SSD? I think it's just a partition. Would I just right click-> format the Windows (C:) area and leaving the rest alone?
Lastly, I made a USB windows 10 install with media creation tool, will it automatically boot from this or do I need to change something on boot up?
Sorry for all the questions, it's been a while since I've done any builds, and I've never modified a laptop, or dealt with a SSD.
Also, I still have the 16GB kit that came with the laptop, so you could use the 16GB kit (since who needs 32GB) and sell the 32GB kit for a lot considering how much it costs new
$120. Looks like it's slightly lower now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015YPB8ME
that is all about the passmark it will have.
you can get a intel nuc skull canyon with a i7-6770HQ,
32 GB ram and a 512 GB ssd for a 870$ (you can lower the ssd and the amount of ram to make it cheaper.)
Ok, so just so Im clear, youre suggesting:
I'll be running After Effects, Premier, Abelton Live
You should look up your laptop/motherboard specs and see what the max amount of memory that is supported and at what speed. If you have an empty slot for RAM, then I would just buy the exact same stick as the other. If your laptop has a high RAM capacity and you can get significantly higher speed, then you could go out and buy all new sticks that fit into the mobo and stay within the laptop specs.
This looks like the RAM you have in your system. Your specs show you can have a max of 32 GB and the specs on your CPU show that 2133 MHz is the max supported speed. So either buy a new stick or get this
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-16GBx2-PC4-17000-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B015YPB8ME/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&qid=1468374275&sr=8-37&keywords=16Gb+DDR4 This one seems to be compatible, by specification only.
How do you calculate the price difference of $474?
$280 (RAM) + $350 (SSD) = $630
$630-$300 (new RAM/SSD) = $330
Anyway, it does seem that RAM and SSD are more expensive in Japan. Are there any recommendations for these parts that I could get from https://www.amazon.co.jp?
In another thread I saw these recommended:
SSD
Amazon USA

$160
Searching for the same model (MZ-75E500B/AM) on Amazon Japan only shows much more expensive results though ($540??).
