Yes, in this context, "a square tilted by 45°" and "diamond" are essentially equivalent phrases. I thought it would be fairly evident from context that I was not referring to crystalline carbon or a 2 dimensional graphical representation of a cut used for crystalline carbon.

However, if I were to formulate a response similar to the following for every comment I made on Reddit, I wouldn’t actually be able to read nearly as much on Reddit:

> A functionally useful approximation of an isochrone from a single origin point via bipedal locomotion in a city with a primarily rectilinear arrangement of interspersed paths of conveyance between impassible erections can be constructed on a representation of a specific area without accounting for the specific local features of that area by taking the average walking speed of a human, multiplying it by the desired increment of time, then marking a point that distance from the origin in each of four directions parallel to the overall rectilinear orientation of the paths of conveyance, then connecting the points to form a quadrilateral with its diagonals parallel to the overall layout of paths of conveyance, sides of equal length, and corners meeting at right angles; this resulting shape also would meet the qualifications of, in increasing order of specificity, a parallelogram, a rhombus, and a square.
>
>This approximation is most useful if the representation it is generated on is to scale and is as close to a flat 2-brane as is practical to construct, despite the underlying topology of the area varying due to being a combination of the result of a complex set of geological events occurring on an object with an approximately oblate ovoid shape which have further been modified by construction activities. In this particular area, the vertical variances are negligible in regards to the applicability of the approximation, as the constructed impediments to motion causing largely non-linear paths results in a significant distortion in the distance of travel required, while inclinations and declinations are unlikely to affect travel speed more than already has to be accounted for by variances in walking speed of individuals when compared to the average used for the approximation. Placement of the origin point is ideally located adjacent to one of the paths of conveyance, as placement elsewhere is likely to result in increased travel time to a path of conveyance not accounted for in the approximation.
>
>A square of this orientation, where the sides are at an angle of 8/τ radians to the overall orientation of what would locally considered on the representation to be horizontal and vertical (although the orientation in the area represented would result in the sides of the square following bearings of approximately 55, 145, 235, and, 325) is often referred to as a diamond, as is the case for road signs^1, chemical hazard warning signs^2, and rankings of ski slope difficulty^3.
>
>In some contexts, an equilateral quadrilateral, or rhombus, is referred to as a diamond as well, and is commonly used as an indicator of suit on bridge or poker style playing cards^4 and is also used for rankings of ski slope difficulty, particularly when multiple copies are needed on the same sign^5. The term polyiamond was even back-formed to refer to a shape that can be formed by aligning the sides of an equilateral triangle in an 2 dimensional plane, a specific case of which is the shape formed by two equilateral triangles and results in the name diamond using the naming convention employed for this class of shape^6. However in this case, its use would only be appropriate if there was an abnormal but regular reduction or increase of average speed in line with only one set of parallel paths of conveyance and not the other. Such a phenomenon would be highly unlikely in Alexandria, Virginia.
>
>Such phenomena being unusual in general, it was assumed that the preference for the square form of a diamond was implied, and I apologize for making any assumptions of any kind (even though they are generally necessary in daily life to avoid becoming mentally unstable due to excessive solipsism, which is why I don’t stop making them, and sometimes find myself apologizing for even reasonable ones).

On an unrelated note, at least they put a compass rose on there, even if it is not terribly prominent.
