The only issue will be the image may be distorted if your TV is a 3:4 (square) as the ATV outputs a rectangular 16:9 image. I do not know if this can be changed.
You could always buy an HDMI to composite and use that with a Roku 3 or the new Roku 2.
Update - Brought it into the office where I have an HDMI monitor, works fine. It was the TV. Pissed I chucked the Gen1. Oh well - Step up your game Hyatt! As an alternative, are there any affordable HDMI>Composite adapters worth looking into for when I run into these scenarios, I travel A LOT.
