What games are you going to be playing?

Actually nevermind, this is the best new gaming laptop you can get in this price range:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-5000-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523978923&sr=8-3&keywords=1050+laptop

Or in general, an i5 HQ and a gtx1050 with 8g of ram. Frankly at $600 there's not much you can do, either the games you want run, or they don't. You would need to jump up to $850 to get an i7 and a 1050ti, which should handle most games at medium-high, and $1050 to get an i7 and a 1060, which will handle just about anything. Then if you want portability you'll need to jump up to the $2000 range for something semi portable and capable of gaming.

You may have more luck trying /r/hardwareswap, Craigslist, and the secondhand market in general.

You will want to spend $40-60 to get a second stick of ddr4 to run in dual channel. I highly recommend the second hand market for this, ram usually lasts for ever so second hand ram is rarely an issue.

u/Allhailhaels · 5 pointsr/thesims

Idk your budget, but something that has at the minimum an Intel Core i3 processor with Intel Integrated graphics card and 4GB Ram. This would go for about $300-$400 dollars, would be able to play the Sims 4 at very low settings and the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection at comfortable settings/smooth gameplay.

If you can spare some more money, ideally you should get an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, preferably a 6/7/8th generation (generation indicated by the first of number that follows, so for example I have an i5 6200U processor). 8GB+ RAM (more the better) is all suggested. The processors I just mentioned will suit the game fine for medium/high settings but for ultra settings look for one of the i5/i7 with “HQ” at the end. The difference between a processor ending is that 6/7th gen and below processors that end with U are only “dual core” while HQ means “quad core”. If you don’t have the money to grab a quad core/HQ that’s ok, but it leads to my next point.

If you can’t get an HQ processor, try to at least get a U processor accompanied by a dedicated graphics card! Some dgpu’s in a decent price range that work well for sims are the Nvidia GeForce 940m, or MX150 made by the same company! Ultra settings could benefit from a Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 or above (1050,1060,1070,1080). That’s basically it!

The first option is only recommended if you’re on a tight budget. You can get more bang for your buck if you go for a desktop, ie. better processor/graphics card for less money but you use the portability factor. I like to game in bed and also have college to worry about so I need my machine to be portable.

Here are some good laptop choices

If you’re on a really tight budget (ie. first option):
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch FHD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM HD, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1IO3QW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oHeJAb87X98XF

Have a bit more money to spare:
Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nIeJAbZFVCXT4

Other pricier ($600+) but better choices:
Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 Gaming Laptop - (15.6" FHD (1920x1080), Intel Quad-Core i5-7300HQ, 1TB HDD, 8GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB, Windows 10 - Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_iJeJAbCQ911ZA

Portability + power is a bit of an issue. That said, here are some sub-$1500 suggestions from Amazon:

u/Michiganders · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The absolute best specs you can get for the price would be the Dell Inspiron 7567 for $700 which comes with a quad core processor and GTX 1050 for $700. It comes with a pretty poor display though. Although it's 1080p, it's a TN panel with poor viewing angles. Otherwise it's a pretty solid computer with a good battery life, and a good build quality.

Another option would be the Acer V15 Nitro for $660. It will still work pretty well for most gaming, although it's a decent amount less powerful than the Dell with a GTX 950M GPU. It also has a 4k pentile ips display which would be pretty good, and a good build quality.

Otherwise, maybe push your budget up to $800 for the Acer V15 Nitro which also has a GTX 1050, a good build quality, and a great display.

For more recommendations or help narrowing down what you're looking for, look at my suggestion guide here. If you have any questions let me know. Best of luck

u/edit1754 · 3 pointsr/laptopgaming

OK, so, thing about this laptop: It can be great. Battery life in particular. But you have to watch out for the screen. Stock/default one is very poor, especially if you're already spending $800+ on the laptop. It's like the left side of this: https://i.imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg

The $900 one on Dell.com offers a better display for +$50 (the IPS one) but the $900 Best Buy one includes it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/5872507.p (only this $900 Best Buy one does, not the other $800 one -- EDIT: On sale for $800 right now)

7300HQ is a very good CPU to be paired with a GTX 1050 Ti. I would say it's probably not worth going going $150 more and losing the SSD in order to get the 7700HQ. Certainly not $100 more, losing both the SSD and IPS. Has an empty slot for a HDD if you wanted to add your own to it, for extra storage. Can either source the mounting brackets or DIY a solution (which I don't think is too bad), but the connector is there. Can either buy a HDD or salvage one from an older unit.

There's also a $769 refurb in the Dell Outlet with IPS, the SSD, and the 1050 Ti. Says 1050 but all the ones with either the SSD or 7700HQ are 1050 Ti, it's a listing error.

Check the screen spec in the Outlet and elsewhere, as only some of them are IPS. Only case I'd really advise buying non-IPS models is if you plan to replace the display yourself, i.e. with one of these. It's a better IPS panel than the Inspiron's IPS configs have, but the Inspiron's IPS is still a lot better than the Inspiron's TN. Works on this laptop too, but again I'd only suggest laptops with poor displays like that if you plan to do the DIY replacement. (EDIT: That laptop has a HDD and no SSD. I think there was a 256GB SSD listing for a similar price but if there was I can't find it.)

Or I would recommend the acer e 15, or inspiron 15 5000 5577

Acer inspiron 15

Acer Aspire E 15

Acer Aspire 5

I don't know if this is what you are looking for...i would try one of these: noteb search. You can change the results by clicking on the top left button "refine results". You can modify budget, battery life, weight etc.

I want to warn you...CAD and your budget doesn't fit right, even if if it's light CAD - the best i could find you is the Acer Aspire E5-576G (US) which comes with i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD and it's 599$.

Maybe you can consider a refurbished or a second hand one - you can check this out: amazon results

For 50$ more u can get this with a GTX 1050... Just don't buy the 940mx https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XFG7157?ref_=mw_olp_product_details

Dell Inspiron i5577 :Intel Core i5 (up to 3.5 GHz),8GB Ram ,1TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1050 a lil bit over your budget its $740 but the best for its price

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Since they already said no to the acer, what about this dell inspiron ? because it comes with everything you need , i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen (it low quality though), long battery life, 1050 GPU, and it is within your budget.

u/RobbieRSon · 2 pointsr/computers

Also seconded, in the US it's a $650 laptop with specs comparable to a $300 laptop. It's not that it won't be powerful enough, as I think it should be, but it won't live up to the specs of a laptop that costs the same amount. Something like this laptop from Dell would suit you much better.

u/Hunt191 · 2 pointsr/computers

You might want this version, the other one only has a single 256GB ssd compared to a 1tb HDD in this version for cheaper https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-i5577-5335BLK-PUS/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=dp_ob_title_ce?pldnSite=1&th=1

I'd pick this Dell, it has a GTX 1050, 8gb ram and a quad core i5 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFG7157) and it's $636 at the moment.

u/waffledude13 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

While I was looking at this one at amazon, I stumbled upon this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XFG7157/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504189586&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=I5577&dpPl=1&dpID=41zfabBnrLL&ref=plSrch
I see it has a gtx 1050 and is on sale right now. What is your opinion on this one?

u/sniper344 · 1 pointr/Laptop

Hi safal007 happy to give you some advice. The Dell Inspiron i5577-5328BLK-PUS,15.6inch Gaming Laptopwould be a great option for you. Also a bit over but the Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Laptop is great too. It's configured with 7th Generation Intel Core i5-7300HQ Kaby Lake 45W processor. The Graphics card in this beast is a 10-series card, the GTX 1050,GPU sports 4GB of video memory, which is ample for 1080p gaming. This GPU in general is made to run modern games at medium-to-high levels of detail, and allow for overall decent gaming and its coming in at 5.51lbs.

u/kenman884 · 1 pointr/Amd

At that price point you might as well grab a gaming laptop.

For instance.

Closest I can find to what I got. I think I may have overestimated the CPU, but I'd take a quad core over a dual core any day of the week. I had a dual core I7 on my previous laptop and it doesn't compare to a quad core I5 at least in terms of multi-tasking. Also helps with VMs.

If you're able to afford it/return your current laptop, check out these options:

  • [Acer Aspire 5]

^ This is the best option if you're looking for something new. It costs $550 and since it has a relatively new dedicated graphics card, it is more than enough for school/light gaming.

  • ASUS VivoBook F510UA

^ A newer version of your laptop that has the same CPU as the Acer, but has no SSD nor dedicated graphics. Is actually pretty sleek looking for the price. $509

  • Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577

^ Much more powerful than the other two laptops but also older, and maybe not the best for school due to its bulk. Is much much much better for gaming. Most expensive one listed here at $655.49

  • HP elitebook 8470p

^ Cheapest laptop that can run minecraft with 40 to 60 fps. Is refurbished. Has good keyboard and surprisingly built like a tank, with the most metal out of all the laptops linked, but is also a bit bulky for school. Screen is only 720p screen like your current one. Way less powerful than other laptops but CPU is still an upgrade from your current. $263.99

    Edit: spelling & formatting.
u/motionglitch · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

>I HATE lag and crashes, so this is the #1 priority

Then don't play on CPU graphics alone.

You can get a laptop with decent GPU at 800$

Here's a good deal

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Well I'm alright adding an HDD but it changes the budget on the laptop. I'll see if I can afford it.

But still, I don't see how this one isn't too far off from the mark.

I could get it with 1 TB HDD, no SSD
Or I could get it with no HDD, 256 GB SSD for cheaper than the acer and upgrading would put me very close to the budget line.

EDIT: removed affiliate links

Hmmm. You wont be able to get much unless you want to spend 700+ BUT there is a nice dell laptop, the inspiron 15 5000 with gtx 1050 in it for 650 or so on Amazon. See it here: Dell Inspiron 15 5000 5577 Gaming Laptop - (15.6" FHD (1920x1080), Intel Quad-Core i5-7300HQ, 1TB HDD, 8GB DDR4, NVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB, Windows 10 - Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFG7157/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NRbRAbNV8Q273

I had a build that was based on the chassis, Dell has tons of configurations for every chassis. It says TN on the product overview, but I went back and looked and in the features tab it does indeed say IPS. However, upon searching the exact model number at different retailers they all either don't specify or specify TN.

Don't you mean the i5577? According to a manufacturer on Amazon, no. But until reviews come out.. I'm still waiting.

You're going to want something with an nVidia dGPU, I recommend the GTX1050 and GTX1050Ti a lot and here's what around 600$ will get you:

  • Dell Inspiron 15 5000
  • Acer Aspire 5
  • Acer Aspire E15

I would really recommend going a bit over the budget and getting that Dell so you have the GTX1050 which plays games like GTA:V and Fallout 3 really well, especially with Dell's amazing cooling and that SSD.

> She uses her laptop mostly for internet. Rowing and video streaming. She also likse to play the SIMs sometimes. She would really like it to last for at least 5 years and hopefully more.

What do you mean by "Rowing"?

The Sims 4 has pretty low system requirements so you do not need an expensive laptop to run the game. Generally speaking a laptop can last 5 years if properly taking care of. But it is hard to predict when electronics can fail. For example, I had an Asus GTX 960 which failed less than 2 months after the warranty expired.

The Sims 4 can be played with integrated graphics, especially if it has a quad core AMD Ryzen 5 2500u APU with the RX Vega 8 integrated graphics core which is about 2x more powerful than the Intel UHD 620 graphics core found in 8th gen i3, i5, i7. That makes the Vega 8 roughly similar to the nivida 930m (assuming the system RAM is running at full speed or Dual Channel); not spectacular, but pretty good for integrated graphics. You can buy the Dell Inspiron 5575 with the Ryzen 5 2500u for $475 at Amazon.com. The only bad thing is that it seems to only have 1 stick of RAM, not two sticks. That means the RAM will be operating at half speed rather than full speed which can limit performance by 10% - 20% depending on the specific game. A simple fix though by simply install in another stick of RAM.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i5575-A217SLV-PUS-Inspiron-5575-LED-Backlit/dp/B07BPPS7CK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1541437897&sr=8-3&keywords=dell+inspiron+5575&dpID=415VG3VrHML&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

The next bump up in graphics performance would be a laptop with a nvidia MX150 who's performance is roughly half way between the GTX 950m and GTX 960m which are the former "gaming GPUs" before the Geforce 10 series was released. The Acer Aspire 5 is currently the least expensive laptop with the mx150 and quad core i5-8250u CPU for $577.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-A515-51G-515J/dp/B075KCJHMD/ref=sr_1_13?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1541438210&sr=1-13&keywords=mx150+laptop

The next bump up in performance would be something like the Dell Inspiron 5577 laptop with an i5-7300HQ and GTX 1050 GPU for $666. The GTX 1050 is overkill for the Sims 4, but nevertheless it does come in far less than the $1,000 budget. It recycles the chassis of the of the older Dell Inspiron 7559 (which has the GTX 960m).

It's not too flashy, and the specs could run lots of games for if you decide to play any later. Probably the best bang for your buck. Can run at max settings at around 144 FPS. Even more at different locations.

This is the one I bought, if it helps to know. It performs amazingly well and I find it fantastic to use on the go as well as at home, since this is my main computer in general. Great price point, too.

The "solid gpu" is a key requirement you're kind of glossing over. I'd recommend this laptop, despite it being a little older:

> It is nice to have CUDA available on your dev machine to debug your code before putting it on AWS.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well.
I'm curious if you know a laptop with that "goldilocks zone GPU" though.

I found these two-

wondering whether the Dell (GTX1050 2GB) is worth it, or I should buy the Samsung (920MX 2GB) and use the $100 to train online.

would this be a good choice

you really need a dedicated graphics card. If you absolutely
need a laptop something like this will be a bit better suited for games like the sims.

If you don't have to have the portability, checkout /r/buildapc, a desktop will give you a better bang for your buck.

"Unfortunately", not "Fortunately".

It's not 2003 anymore. Any modern laptop, even a Mac book, can probably run at least half of what's on Steam and the other stores. My 5 year old unit can still play almost anything released even if on lowest settings at 720p. Laptops can come with up to i7s and GTX 1080s same as desktops.

Random example pulled off Amazon:

If my laptop with only a 660m can play nearly anything newer at low, this one that basically blows mine away more or less should be able to run all newer games at around medium 1080p.
