This'll probably depend on how much you want to spend. A decent set of weights and rack, brand new, could run around $1500-$2000. But if he's a huge gym rat, he'll probably want OLYMPIC weights (as opposed to standard). He'll probably want a RACK so he can do bench press and squats safely. I personally bought this one and love it. A couple ways to reduce the price is look on Craigslist and any used sporting goods stores in your area. Hope that helps

I've had this one for a bit and it's solid. Only complaint are the safety bars are kind of a pain to move up and down because you have to align the pins, I wish they would have just stuck with the basic through rod.

It's nice to have one with a cable attachment because I don't have dumbbells so it gives you more options to your workout.

I had a cheap 2 post rack before this and it was sketchy, would not recommend a 2 post rack for anything.

Fitness reality power rack with lat pull down: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7Z2GGN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I actually got lucky. The price was the same (549) for the power rack with the lat pull-down and without when I bought it. Someone over there messed up but i'm not complaining.

You might find that "raised bar" near your feet will still end up in the way when trying to squat. I had one similar and it was a pain, I had to squat off the front facing the other way (negating the benefit of having mirrors)

What about this

Puts it in your price range and you still get the Pulley station

I don't have a homegym yet but I have my eye on this rack. From the few I've talked to on this thread who have it, it seems like a solid rack. I do like doing most of my workouts inside the rack so I do like a deeper rack though. Good luck in your search.

Was about to invest in this myself until Amazon's price unexpectedly jumped $190 to 789. Not sure what's up, but neither Fitness Reality or Amazon was willing to help. Guess I'll wait and see if it drops again, as the previous price held for 6 months, practically the entire life of the product under the FR brand name...

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if the assembly instructions are unclear? Here's some of the other reviews saying the safety bars don't fit:

As I looked into this more, I see that actually most reviews aren't about the safety bars not fitting -- most reviews are about the safety bars being difficult/time consuming to adjust.

It sounds like that is a different issue, and by design.

I stated buying things as I found them on sale. The bar and weights I bought on sale from Dicks Sporting Goods a few months before I finally bought the rack. The bench can be removed and I have attachments to do leg extensions/ leg curls and preacher curls. It’s just an ok bench that is affordable.

The rack is this rack from amazon. Fitness Reality X-Class Light Commercial High Capacity Olympic Power Cage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7Z2GGN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_skc0Db0A64Z91

This is the one I have, dip bars, safety rack, and 2 pull up poles as well as a pull system .
