9. Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with Optional Lat Pull-down Attachment and Adjustable Leg Hold-down
- ROL0 flux classification - rosin based, low activity no-clean tacky solder flux for professional/industrial use. Highly praised by advanced reworks community for mighty long-lasting action and easy cleaning - clear residue evaporates with hot air and doesn't short components. Applicable for a syringe, stencil printing, rework, BGA sphere attachment and reballing using standard tin/lead alloys (won't solder lead-free metals). Halide-free (<0.05%). Contains UV-tracer for fast detection of splatter.
- Optimal viscosity - 40-52 (Malcom @ 10 RPM/25°C (x103mPa/s)). High temperature compatible (up to 300°C/600°F). Surface insulation resistant. No copper mirror breakthrough. Low electrochemical migration (<1 decade drop). May contain up to 7% w/w of ethoxylated 4-nonylphenol (NPE can be harmful to aquatic organisms - dispose of responsibly avoiding water drains)
- Activated residue is clear and non-corrosive - can be left on board for multiple SMT assemblies (manufacturer recommends cleaning all flux residues at all times to avoid board contamination or voltage leakage on circuits with high impedance, also non-activated residue may absorb moisture from the air and subsequently cause corrosion). Wide process window - excellent performance on Flip Chip bumping and Chip Scale Packaging sites.
- Syringes are intended for industrial dispensing machines and use a piston stopper instead of a plunger - do not remove the piston as it delivers the best seal to prevent contact with air. Dispensing Kit is a third party add-on, not supplied by AMTECH. A plunger is to push on the piston and not necessary snuggly fitting AMTECH syringe, a plunger can be loose. Dispensing tip gauge (size) will be within 14-23 Ga and may differ from pictured.
- Genuine product made in the USA by Inventec Performance Chemicals. Distributed by AMTECH DIRECT - every original shipment will include AMTECH Soldering Profiles card.

This has the most bang for your buck. The quality of the bar is just blah, but the weights are pretty decent. The bar is about to become my spare for just bench press, after I upgrade to a Rogue Ohio. But it served me well for the last year.
Just remember that muscles come from use, and typically we use them by picking heavy stuff up and putting it back down. You don't need something fancy for that. You can go over board (I love stocking my home gym, so yeah it's easy to go over board) and buy expensive brands, but starting with the basic versions is fine.
------
If you're looking for a power cage also, this one is the best value. It has pretty good reviews and several people in /r/homegyms have them. Good price, easy to find attachments for, and great weight rating.
These weight lock rings also were a god send. The ones that come with the sets are usually usable but annoying.

You asked about a cage. There's good options out there like Rep Fitness and Rogue. Rogue gets pricy, but great quality.
A great budget one (that I actually have) is this one from Fitness Reality. It's cheap, good quality, decent strength. Big lifters in competitions or going for high numbers would out pace this cage, but for those of us not going for that this works well. There's some downsides, like it is a bit smaller of a lifting area and if you want to hang your weights for storage it isn't the best (though I still do). There's also no cable attachments directly to this cage like some others have (like Rogue). It's a simple cheap good quality cage.
A good weight and bar starting set is the Dicks Sporting Goods set. It isn't pretty, and you'll want to replace the bar after a year, but it's worth the price and I still use those weights.
I have the Rep Fitness PR1000 and it's a well built budget rack that we use daily. They just released a slightly newer version (bigger hole spacing) at a really good price of $199+s/h but looks like it's up to $239 now. It's compatible with more attachments than the PR1000 too.
As others mentioned, TDS (aka New York Barbells) has some really great options that are built of slightly better gauge steel, coupled with competitive pricing and free shipping it's hard to beat. Most of their full racks can accommodate an array of different attachments. I've heard their customer service is so-so, but if you deal through Amazon, I'm sure you'd be covered. We have their "Super Open" Half rack and have bolted it down and we're really happy with it. Especially the numbered uprights and pegs for adding bands to our programming.
I saw your $2k budget in another post, so here's my recommendation. I'll clean up the formatting and add links when I get to a computer.
Power rack like a Titan T-3 Short or X-3 Short if you don't want to build a platform to bolt it to. I recommend the short because they're 7' tall, the normal height is ~8ft, and you might run into ceiling height issues.
Alternatively at a budget you can get the Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage for $200. It's not as sturdy, but it's half the price, and comes with a multi-grip pull-up bar
Get the following attachments - dip bars, land mine, Multi-grip pull-up bar. You want a power rack even if you're not squatting because you can bench by yourself with the safeties and not worry about failing a lift. Titan sells rack-specific attachments for these, and anything that fits the Titan T-2 should fit the Fitness Reality rack.
Olympic bar and plates - I'd get a Fringe Sport Wonder Bar personally. Get plates second hand off of Craigslist for no more than .70/lb
Adjustable bench - Titan's will work, but Rep Fitness is the best in the home gym biz as far as build quality goes.
Adjustable dumbbells. I'd get the Power Blocks Urethane set that's expandable to 120lbs. Start with the up to 40lb or 60lb variant and the stand, and then buy expansions if/when you need them.
If you still have money left over, I'd pick up an EZ-B bar too - Amazon is fine for this. I just like them for curls and some other arm movements. Pick one where you like the bend pattern - there are some I prefer to others personally.
EDIT: links added
I'm 6'1" but with a 7" basement ceiling, I don't see pullups happening unless I'm gonna stick my head between the joists each time lol. Same with OHP unfortunately.
I'm looking at normal height racks now, I assumed that with only 2-3" of clearance I would have trouble assembling the rack, but it sounds like that isn't the case. The Powerline PR200X is the current frontrunner.
I don't have a fear of falling backwards or anything, I've been lifting for quite some time and I know my limitations. It looks like I could certainly get a squat stand for much less than a full cage, but I still have concerns about stability. However, I am fairly certain I can just bolt a stand into my basement slab, which would cure stability issues I would think. Also, a cage would allow for some attachments, like dip bars, which would I would definitely want. I'm wondering if I can actually get a good squat stand with safety arms for less than 400 shipped, which is what I'm looking at for the Powerline.
I've always hated going to the gym fighting with other people for equipment and altering my exercises around what is available. I also let the distance from my house creep in as an excuse. It resulted in a lot of fuckarounditis and quitting for long periods of time. Best thing I have done was get some proper equipment for my garage. I am addicted now.
I had some weights, a bench, a short olympic bar, and two olympic dumbell bars I got off of classifieds awhile ago. The bar sucked since it was so small. I never got into using it for years. I decided to finally get a real bar and a power rack. I also supplemented my olympic weights a bit. It has made a HUGE difference in the quality of my workouts. The power rack allows me to push myself a lot without the use of a spotter.
Below is the equipment I got and can absolutely recommend all of it. The bar has the perfect amount of knurling to not rip your hands up. The weights are not works of art, but cheap and perfectly suitable.
PowerLine PPR200X Power Rack
Body Solid 7-Feet Olympic Bar
Cap Barbell Free Weights
Lockjaw Olympic Barbell Collar
My bench is kind of a shitty bench that came with all the other junk I purchased earlier. Not sure what would be good if I was in the market right now. You can modify the power rack to hold some of your plates, but a weight tree isn't expensive and laying weights on the floor isn't a problem at first. A pad is pretty much necessary for dead lifts and you can pick up 3/4 inch rubber horse stall mats at those farm feed store for about $45. Get on a program like SS and this is all you need until you decide to move to splits, giving you plenty of time to slowly add more equipment as you find it.
When I finish SS I will pickup the Ironmaster 75 lb Quick-Lock Adjustable Dumbbell System and I already ordered the Powerline PLA200X Lat Attachment, both of which get great reviews.
Overall you will save a ton of money on membership fees in the long run and it's really hard to make excuses to not workout. The equipment is a joy to use.
I would suggest building a platform for deadlifts - my top sets right now are around 330, I don't drop the weight and use bumpers and I don't feel like the stall mats are gonna be enough for too long.
I don't see a weight limit on that bench, but most of the Marcy ones I have seen are pretty low, like 300-500 lbs. If you're gonna be deadlifting 500 I assume you're gonna be benching at least half that, added to your bodyweight will probably exceed the weight limit, especially under a dynamic load.
Instead of the bench and rack you have chosen, I'd spend a little more and get something like this rack and maybe the Titan fitness flat bench, which has a 1000lb limit.
And the link for the Olympic bar you posted doesn't work.
Edit: that fitness reality cage has an option with a bench too, that might be a good way to go too because it's adjustable and I think it has a pretty high limit.
https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-810XLT-Super-Power/dp/B01MR0BM7X
I assume this is the one you mean? Got positive reviews, looks good.
I'm pretty confident it will be fine. Until you get into 500 lbs zone, I would be surprised if you have to worry about how sturdy the thing is.
Is benching your only goal? Do you do squats?
Lastly, with a power rack, you will almost definitely need to get olympic bar+ weights. I don't think it's an either/or situation. The power rack is there to make sure you can safely execute exercises; the weights allow you to overload those exercises. It's like asking "I just have underwear right now, should I buy a shirt or pants if I want to go out in public". You need both really.
HOWEVER...
If 100 lb is your max bench, going for more weight might be the better option for now. Just make sure your current bench can handle that much weight (you+weights).
I have a Valor BD-7, which is nothing special, but there's two things I like about it that might be worth considering for power racks.
Sure, accessories exist for 2x2.5 or 2x3, but 2x2 with 1" holes gives you a lot more stuff to choose from in my experience.
Bench wise, it may not matter to you, but if you're already getting something with a leg hold-down, you might as well look for one that has a modular leg extension and a preacher bench that you can swap in and out.
Not that I'm particularly advocating for this one in particular, but just in case anyone strolled through here and didn't know the difference between a "Squat Rack" and a "Power Rack"
http://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E/
Big fan of the power rack myself. I always feel more comfortable squatting heavy in it rather than a squat rack due to the ability to set higher safety bars, despite it not actually mattering when you think about it. Just something about an encompassing cage feels more protective.
And then there's the much greater versatility it can offer. So good.
All this can be done for under 1k.
At that weight basically anything you get will be ok, that said, safeties are still nice to have, so consider the value of a full rack or a half rack instead of just a squat stand. As always, Craigslist or your local alternative can be a lot better deals (and your realism about weights may mean that some of the less popular cheaper stuff will be great for you while everyone else is chasing expensive Rogue gear).
If you do want to go new, Slickdeals just pointed me towards this $250 prime shipping rack on Amazon that looks like one of the cheapest options at the moment: https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ CamelCamelCamel is amazingly reporting it sold for < $150 a few times this year (though I dunno if that included shipping)
So from the other replies, sounds like you are in a dilemma with being able to spend more on something better/safer. I would agree with another poster if you could save a bit more and purchase the Fitness Reality cage you would be better off. The problem with that cage, like another said, that I see is the lower range max weight it handles. You say you wont go above 140, and maybe so.. but if you get in to this more you may wish you had spent the extra to get a cage that can grow with you. More so, just because you wont go up to the max doesnt mean it may not fail near the max.
If the FR is just way too out of your range regardless, and you might be in a better position to purchase something better later should you need it, then I wouldnt wait on starting to work out and buy the rack. But like another said, you need a decent bar, weights, etc. If you dont have those, are you able to get those too?
Not sure what you plan on doing and how much weight you'll be using, but I'm finishing up assembling my frugal low-space garage gym. I got a few new items because they were not too expensive and hard to find on Craigslist (squat stands and bumper plates namely).
Total Cost: $412 (or 3.2 months of my CrossFit membership)
It's not the most awesome home gym, but fits in the corner of my garage, and is heavy enough for me to do my Starting Strength routine and progress a bit before I need to add on.
Couldn't agree more regarding the purchase of a rack that includes plate storage. Its more space efficient and leaves more open floor space. I have a fitness reality rack (https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1520431497&sr=1-1&keywords=fitness+reality+810xlt+super+max+power+cage) with T-2 plate holders, but if I were to buy again I'd think hard about getting a titan T-3 (T-3 over a T-2 because there seems to be more accessory options). However, from personal experience, I'd have to disagree regarding getting a flat bench and a "good" bar.
Regarding the bench, do you plan on doing incline bench/flys/curls/ rows/etc? The general sentiment of this community is buy once/buy forever. If that's the case, buy a good incline bench and call it a day. Otherwise, you buy the flat bench, then buy an adjustable bench down the road, and you're trying to store both of them in your 10x10 room. I got the el cheapo fitness reality (https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-Super-Adjustable-Weight/dp/B01CR4XFIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520431386&sr=8-1&keywords=fitness+reality) one for ~$80. It does the job, but isn't super heavy/wide. While it doesn't feel rock solid, I've had people throw up 250#s on it no problem, so for many of us it should do the job. Looking back, I would look into Titan's adjustable bench, as well as the Ethos one from Dicks. The Ethos is a little steep at $250, but is super study and heavy duty feeling.
As far as getting a "good bar" goes, why rush it? What are your numbers currently? I got the Dick's Fitness Gear 300 # set (https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-300-lbolympic-weight-set-16fgeu300lbstwth7brb/16fgeu300lbstwth7brb) for ~$180. It can be had for cheaper if you sign up for their promotion emails and use a $10 or $20 off coupon. I've pulled 300#s and squatted 300#s and the bar hasn't bent yet. Yes, the knurling could be better, and it won't last a lifetime, but until my lifts are consistently over 300#s or the bar does start to bend, buying a "good' bar can wait. It does the job and I could think of several things I'd rather buy first for my home gym. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait until I'm forced to buy a new bar and can get something badass, but if you're on a budget and the 300lb weight set bar works for what you need, I wouldn't rush into getting a better bar.
A gym membership at a place that has power racks, or if you're working out at home, a power rack / squat rack with safeties, a flat bench, a barbell and some weight (don't spend more than ~1k in total if you're just starting out).
Everything else is luxuries.
You can get by without those things too, but having them makes things a lot easier.
If you have a half-decent gym nearby I would go with that first for a few months, just so you figure out if you are going to keep lifting weights long term.
If I was doing a basic garage gym setup and didnt want to buy second hand I would grab these things:
https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E/
https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Fitness-Weight-Capacity-Handle/dp/B01M31YT3M
https://www.roguefitness.com/bravo-bar-bumper-set
They aren't the cheapest option (craigslist is the cheapest, and you can also get new things cheaper) but it strikes a good middle ground of getting things that have been tested and has an ok reputation (so should resell ok) while still being on the cheaper side.
I'd also get some exercise bands for like 20 USD from somewhere to do things like band pullaparts, facepulls and assisted pullups if you can't do full ones yet, and some microplates wherever they are cheap.
With those things, plus running/walking, you can do a full workout.
The next addition I'd get after that would be two dumbbell handles and some more small plates to do dumbbell exercises, but that is luxury. :)
Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get rid of my home gym equipment I've accumulated over the years since I'm moving, and I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to best sell it. I've never really sold anything online, I was going to keep the price pretty low but ask the buyer to come pick it up from my apartment since I don't have a car. Should I just go through craigslist or are there some better channels these days?

For reference I have a squat rack with an adjustable bench, an olympic barbell with plates up to 300 lbs, adjustable dumbbells up to 55 lbs, resistance bands and a couple other small things. All in great condition, maybe some signs of wear on the bench. Any advice appreciated.
thanks guys. going with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VLRVSC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1L9NKXDNACY0J but just found http://www.amazon.com/Valor-Athletics-Inc-BD-Power/product-reviews/B002EJC990/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
I feel the 2nd is much better quality. Any reason not to go with the second one? any recommendations on where to buy weights? Im excited to join this reddit. I finally feel motivated!
I'm just getting started on setting up a very simple basement gym and I'm having a hard time choosing between these two racks.
The Fitness Reality 810XLT seems like the most common beginner rack and comes with a bench for $345. I'd probably want to add on J-hooks and weight holders though, which will add around $60 to the cost. Even more if I want to add the dip bars
This Vanswe rack has caught my eye and comes with pretty much every attachment I could need for a total of $399, except it doesn't include the bench. I haven't been able to find many reviews for this guy but it seems like a slightly better quality rack than the Fitness Reality one?
Does anyone have experience with either of these racks and can help me break the tie? I'm also open to recommendations for a cheap adjustable bench to go with the Vanswe rack
I have this one, which looks very similar but without the spotter, etc:
https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-Commercial-Developer-Attachment/dp/B01N23F38A
While bench itself is good quality, it is > 21" high from floor to top of pad. Makes it hard to get feet down where I want them for bench (I am 5'11"). I bought a Titan Fitness flat bench recently as it is only 17" tall.
I use mine with the Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Cage that has been great:
https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-810XLT-Capacity-Weight/dp/B01NBOVAIJ
You can get a fitness reality power rack for around 230 at times.
You can get a bar and 255 lbs of weight 300 total for $180 at dicks sporting goods (200 right now but they have coupons all the time.
Boom, home gym for about 440 after tax, all new! you can find better prices used on things like facebook marketplace and craigslist.
Source: I have this rack and weights, a cheap fitness gear bench, and some super cheap adjustable yes4all dumbells in my homegym
Yeah, like that.
For dips there are a couple different options. Some attachments are like this and some are like this. There are other types, too. Not sure which ones would suit you best or where to find them at good prices, though.
Check out /r/homegym for some good info on that - the gist of it is you'd need some type of safety equipment to do it alone, like a power rack or squat rack. Here's the one I use at home, there's a variety of options with a pretty wide range of prices out there. Craigslist can, in some areas, be a great way to pick up a used rack for a better price than new.
well craigslist would be the best option if you get lucky but a lot of areas aren't great.
for new stuff. power rack: http://www.amazon.com/TDS-Super-Power-Squat-Cage/dp/B00QZ2G7FY/ref=sr_1_6?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1425744976&sr=1-6&keywords=power+rack

olympic plates: used on craigslist for under 70 cents a lb. alternatively you can get a "300 lb olympic weight set" from dicks that has 255lb of plates and a bar for $200 and just not use the crappy bar that comes with it, or use it and get a better bar later.
here's a better bench than the adidas I would recommend if you can afford it: http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-flat-utility-bench
Thank you for taking the time to respond, that sounds like a great idea, especially because I don't want any hassle when placing the heavy weight on the pegs, have found some for quite cheap as well, a very good suggestion, thank you.

I don't have a homegym yet but I have my eye on this rack. From the few I've talked to on this thread who have it, it seems like a solid rack. I do like doing most of my workouts inside the rack so I do like a deeper rack though. Good luck in your search.
Hey there! Im also 6ft, im more a lean build and look pretty bad unless im at around 167lbs. Id try dropping to around 170, then try to gain 5-10 lbs of muscle especially on the shoulder and back to get a good V-shape.
See if your gym or doctor have a nice weighing scale that can look up your body fat %, if its still high then try different diets (Carb cycling, Keto) and different cardio workouts (HIIT, 3min shadow boxing, sports). Empty stomach cardio in the morning and Keto One meal a day has been rumored to help lose stubborn fat deposits.

If you want to do lifts at home, make sure to buy safety equipment as you can seriously die. Set up one of these in your garage: https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=power+rack&qid=1558831817&s=gateway&sr=8-3 . and start with 5x5 Stronglifts Workout routine: https://stronglifts.com/5x5/

If money is an issue then look up the best bodyweight exercises you can do and start doing 100 pushups while your legs are above you on a chair or get your cat to sit on you. Doorway pullup bars are also cheap. Do some squats. You can improvise weights using jugs of water, rope, and a good solid pipe [Check youtube]. Also try to find equipment on craigslist - im sure there is discount stuff if you look. Bid low or ask if you can trade for the rest like your old video games or something.
This'll probably depend on how much you want to spend. A decent set of weights and rack, brand new, could run around $1500-$2000. But if he's a huge gym rat, he'll probably want OLYMPIC weights (as opposed to standard). He'll probably want a RACK so he can do bench press and squats safely. I personally bought this one and love it. A couple ways to reduce the price is look on Craigslist and any used sporting goods stores in your area. Hope that helps
This is what I bought a while ago , but when I got it came with a nice adjustable bench for an extra $50 that was normally like $100 by itself - Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with 800lbs Weight Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FPmBCbSH4W0T0
Honestly, I'm probably no the right person to ask. This is my first power rack.
My opinion as a first time buyer? No regrets. I see all the other power racks out there from the $1000 ones with the cable setups to the $150 wood DIY setups. This rack is perfect for starting out with 5x5. I am not doing any auxillary exercises (as recommended for beginners in the 5x5 routine) so I don't need any of that stuff. The first set of aux moves I plan to add are leg raises and chin-ups which can both be easily done with this rack without purchasing anything else.
The only thing I suggest is you buy some better j-hooks. I just recently bought these and I love them. I also plan to add some of these plate holders at some point too. Any attachment that fits a 2"x2" power rack with 1" holes with fit these. I've also see some previous sales on the rack itself where they go for sub$200. You just can't beat it if you are't going to out-weight it.

Not sure why you want a mirror, and probably leave out the kettlebell if you want to stick to basics, feel free to message me if you need some more help. Also craigslist is extremely hit or miss, but is pretty good for buying the plates. Also, given his former SEAL status, consider crowdfunding to help with money.
Thanks! I heard the same thing about deadlifting with this bar. A rogue Ohio is on the list for sure! And probably another pair of 45 plate that are standard height.
I wouldn't be opposed to a new rack, either - do you have any cost efficient recommendations that would do the trick?
edit: https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-7-Power-Attachment/dp/B002EJC990
Here's one I saved a while ago. I'm assuming this would be viable for face pulls as well, yes?
Not sure what your price range is.... but if you can swing it, get a cage.
I've got the fitness reality power cage as I lift at home alone. Of course it's great for safe squatting, but if you're also gonna lift alone like I do, a cage will allow you to push yourself harder on bench and other push exercises knowing you're not gonna kill yourself if you slip up. Biggest detrimate to progress is injury and we're doing this for our health in the first place right?
Good morning Monday!
I understand logically it's really straight forward and mathematical - just set your calories threshold lower....focus on maintaining strength (should I prepare for an inevitable strength loss down ahead?) Maybe utilize yohimbine and ephedrine. It's just something I've never done so I'm putting more thought in it then I should.
Does this look good and for its price? Atlas vs. TDS?
I currently have a squat stand (rated at ~300lbs) and just use stacked chairs as safe guards. I know I can always throw the bar off my back but I'm scared of potentially just screwing up my body or shoulders or something like that. Plus got a credit card....$200 cash back on $500, may as well ;). You would think at this point with the money spent on a home gym.....maybe go to a real gym but it's so convenient but no girls and low ceiling -_-.
Total cost of all that is 1235.36 dollars. Then you save up for..
And you're all done. :-) That is all you need for the gym. You cover everything there. Start from there and keep working forward. You can toss in a yoga mat or two. It shouldn't be too hard to get + his clients would most likely love to workout in a private space where they pay less & get a free training session or two.
does anyone else have this power cage? I recently picked it up and really like it but would enjoy more options on the pull up bar like what's available for the Titan cages. just wondering if anyone has seen or know of options out there i can look into that'll fit properly.
Doesn't look like it would be too solid. I don't know how much you are willing to spend or your requirements but this york rack is very well built and has a 1000 lbs capacity, it was the best value I could find when I was looking. They also make a shorter one that's slightly cheaper.
On Amazon. After tax, it cost me $99 to have this thing shipped right to my door.
http://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Power-Rack-Exercise-Stand/dp/B00HYQP72O?ie=UTF8&keywords=cap%20power%20rack&qid=1465311729&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
And, I'm not gonna lie. It's not the sturdiest rack in the world. I can easily make it sway side to side (albeit not much; it still feels decently solid enough). And I can do chinups and pull ups, but I wouldn't be trying to fucking swing from the pull up bar. But...for $94, you're not going to beat it! I've racked up to 250 lb on it, and it seems to have been fine. It's rated at a 300lb max, and I'm sure if I actually get to the point where I can consistently bench/squat that much damn weight, I'll actually invest in something more robust. For my current fat out of shape ass, I'm benching 110 5x5, so I have nothing to worry about for a little while.
Also, for what it's worth, it has holes that allow you to bolt it down to a platform if you wanted to.
I'm happy with the purchase, for $94!
Thanks, I actually just ordered some wooden gymnastic rings a couple days ago. I did a shit load of looking around, unhappy with all the dip and pull up equipment that required tucking your knees and then I found this. The pull up bars are 7ft high, (PERFECT for me), you can buy a multi grip dip attachment that can mount from any height, put your gymnast rings on it, do your rows on the safety bars, it allows for every possible calisthenics workout you could imagine, save for human flags. I think it's funny that I'm buying a squat cage for a butt load of things except it's primary function (squats). So I think it's safe to say I'm set on equipment haha.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U3ABXGW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got this very recently and it has been working out very well. the square tube they use is hella thick. it also has safety bars but they are a little short if you need to bail on a squat, would be much safer to bail the bar backwards instead of trying to land on their safety bars. for bench press they are more than adequate though.
All you would have to do is take something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Gravity-Fitness-Portable-Bodyweight-Pull/dp/B01N4EQ9V7
And add an extra set of bars + support bars. Ideally adjustable. It really shouldn't be that hard to build imo.
Thanks for your input though, I do appreciate the suggestions.
Did a quick little comparison... 107 lbs when setup and cost $309 on Amazon...
https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E
Compare to the fitness reality one... 133.5 lbs and cost $199, also powder coat paint, since someone mentioned that about the T2.

and an 300 lbs olympic set = best investment i ever made
i share with 2 other friends so we save a lot of money, gas, and time since we all live like 1 min from each other
The Titan stuff is pretty good. /r/homegym likes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_.vGEzbDEDMKQV too.
I think it's important to realize that cheap shit can work just fine if you're willing to baby it a bit. Getting a good barbell would be the best place to spend your money, but something is better than nothing.
I got one of these guys for 300: http://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1420678266&sr=8-3&keywords=power+rack
I can't really make any comparisons but I've had it for almost a year now and it's worked out great. Seems like a solid budget option.
not sure if this is something you are interested in or not but we've been using a [power cage]
(https://www.amazon.com/1000-Pound-Capacity-Multi-Function-Adjustable-Attachments/dp/B07FBDVJN5?ref_=Oct_BSellerC_3408451_0&pf_rd_p=32862ac7-1958-5038-ac10-b41e97bd1cd2&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=3408451&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=2C3P3790982A4GTYBXVM&th=1) that we can easily transform into a rather vanilla looking exercise rack when the orkin man visits (or whenever people might be wandering into our play area)
it's fairly inexpensive; not too difficult to disassemble when we need to move it and can easily handle any sort of suspension activity we're likely to throw at it...
Try craigslist, you can sometimes find cheap power racks on there. You don't need anything fancy, something like this would work, but keep in mind it doesn't have safety bars. You may need to upgrade to something like this later on, because it's easier to bail on a squat with the safety bars. You don't need a spotter if you practice safely failing a rep with an empty/lightly loaded bar.
I bought a power rack with a lat tower last year. I think it was $430 Valor Athletics BD-7. I guarantee you I can do more than 60 exercises with it, my bench, and my barbell. Having it out in my garage has been awesome. I just started ICF a few weeks ago and I love being able to do it out in my garage.
EDIT: Added link
I bought this rack about a year ago and I'm still happy with my purchase. I didn't think I would use the lat pulldown very often, but I was wrong. It was nice to have a little more variety of exercises available to me - Lat pull, tricep pushdown, seated rows, etc... Literally my only complaint is that the plate storage doesn't hold big weights very well and the pegs don't hold olympic size plates, which I thought was standard. Good luck in your search!
I got those titan fitness plate holders and they fit perfectly. The rack is narrow enough on the side that they kind of work as dip attachments. I'm going to get a second pair. I want this dip attachment.
Just installed this yesterday. I would squat and think “is my ass going to hit that bar in the back? Am I going to hit the rear bars?” Every time. I’ll get used to it. It’s fantastic for the price.. and fantastic regardless of the price.
Edit: actually I got this: Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with Optional Lat Pull-down Attachment and Adjustable Leg Hold-down https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_h8kvDb7KK36KH
I own this:
https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496783376&sr=8-1&keywords=weight+cage
It's been great to me so far. I hope that the 800 lb. capacity becomes an issue for me some day. I really do.
I also bougt this dip attachment:
https://www.amazon.com/Dipping-Attachment-Power-Squat-Handles/dp/B01JMF2CVS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1496783587&sr=8-9&keywords=dip+attachment
Works great with this rack even though it wasn't designed for it. Not going to lie, though, I did put a couple bags of cement on the back "feet" of the rack to reduce the shakiness when using the dip attachment.
I bought a 300lbs set, complete Olympic plates for $145 with a 7 foot Olympic bar and 2 collars. Also bought a standard bench for $40. From play it again sports.
Bought a squat rack off Amazon, delivered to the house. This one...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N4I8FOY/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works great. But I wouldn't trust the rack with over 600 lbs on it.... not that I'm threatening that anytime soon. Lol
I'm in the process of cancelling my gym membership and setting up home gym. I found this squat rack on amazon prime that looks good. I just wish it had safety bars. Any one else have a better recommendation on a modest squat rack? I already checked craigslist in my area, nothing great.
No one should have to ever see groce gril titties. That's just gaaayyy.
I use this: https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1518187622&sr=1-4&keywords=power+rack
At first I was skeptical since it was so inexpensive, but I'm glad I decided to buy it. It's worked great for me.
https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1499866417&sr=1-4&keywords=power+rack
It's back to full price now, but they typically go on sale pretty often, i got mine for about 185 if i remember correctly. It's a decent rack compared to the $400-$1000 racks.
Check out /r/homegym for ideas and possible deals! I highly suggest setting up a home gym if you're able to and most important, if you're committed.
Bang for your buck, Titan makes a really nice rack.
Pulley system there's a lot of options. If you're handy, you could even go DIY on this route. Here's a popular one for reference.
Or you could go for an all in one rack, something like the Valor BD-7. I don't know much about it personally.
GHD is a glute hamstring developer. It's the icing on the cake on leg day. There's solo machine, rack attachements, and DIY options on these as well.
I did the Dick's 300lb weight set, this squat rack and bench from Amazon (watch it on camelcamelcamel) Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with The 800 lb Capacity Super Max 1000 Weight Bench Combo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBOVAIJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RANaAb1P2QYMD, and the horse stall mat.
Total came to right around $600.
I was looking around on Amazon and found this power rack.
Does that seem like a pretty good price for one?
> The Vulcan runs for over a grand but I'm looking to spend $200 - $400 max.
The only thing that comes to mind is the Fitness Gear half rack:
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23773346
With your budget the Titan HD is the better buy:
http://www.titandistributorsinc.com/default/crossfit-equipment/hd-titan-power-rack-with-2-x3-tubes.html
Edit: Amazon has it too but it's $10 more:
http://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00LAHY7UQ
If you don't need it to be portable, like the one you linked, this has been great for me. I got it for like $89.00 and it does everything I need it to.
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if the assembly instructions are unclear? Here's some of the other reviews saying the safety bars don't fit:
https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-X-Class-Commercial-Capacity/product-reviews/B01N7Z2GGN/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt_rgt?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=critical&reviewerType=all_reviews

As I looked into this more, I see that actually most reviews aren't about the safety bars not fitting -- most reviews are about the safety bars being difficult/time consuming to adjust.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/ROGJXZOJGULYW/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01N7Z2GGN
It sounds like that is a different issue, and by design.

One for 400$ on amazon that I bought. It was the cheapest one they had. I really like it
Valor Fitness BD-7 Power Rack with LAT Pull Attachment & Pull Up Station https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002EJC990/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cAKpDb4XG3CP0
Here’s the link just in case.
I just saw another one for the same price that comes with a bunch of attachments.
I’ve owned this one for about a year, highly recommend it. $300 and free shipping right now, rated for 800 lbs and has a nice varied grip pull-up bar.
Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with 800lbs Weight Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W4lbBb1MPY274
This rack is popular amongst the budget conscious here.
Something like this is perfect, you could even remove the safeties and deadlift inside the rack if space is really that much of an issue.
I do like it! It was a good price, and I like that it's open and lower on the front part so that I can lift the bar out of it easily when I need to for deadlifts and such.
The cat curtains are from Ikea. I couldn't resist them!
Edit: here is the exact rack I bought. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VKGLWUU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got this from amazon and they are very steady with the rings. I have had no issues doing the RR on them.
EDIT: Updating answer to help out OP with an alternative.
OP, you can try out rows with towel and a door similar to this till you gain the strength to do the rows with your body directly below the bar.
What to buy really depends how much room you have.
I don't know if you plan to squat using your squat rack, but if you do, get a squat rack with the safety pins. Don't squat like the guy does in the picture on your link. Being able to fail safely is important
How to squat safely - Omar Isuf
Example
Note on the squat rack I linked: why the fuck did they have the model squat outside of the safety pins ?
I bought a folding pull up bar from Amazon, which works well enough as long as it is placed on a non-slip surface.
http://www.amazon.com/All---one-Stand-Alone-Pull/dp/B001KUURTS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457987164&sr=8-1&keywords=pull+up+bar+folding
It might look flimsy but it is made of lightweight and extremely strong aluminum.
I switched to this unit because it could accommodate bench and squat presses:
http://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Power-Rack-Exercise-Stand/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457987226&sr=8-1&keywords=cap+exercise+stand
It is not portable, of course, but I have a permanent gym downstairs and it saves on space.
"Reasonably priced" is..well..relative. I love Rogue products and I respect their American-made ethos greatly and I love how flexible all of their systems are, but you are paying for all of that. You can't get a squat rack under $345 from them (S-1). And, per context of this conversation, that doesn't have the pullup bar; you have to go to the S-2 at $425. Don't get me wrong, that rack is fucking tough, but the price is too.
If you pay less you will get less, but you might not need something as bomb-proof as Rogue.
Here is an off brand on Amazon at $89 dollars. It's all relative...
Cap Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_SgBNwbQKHXGZS
So I'm looking at a CAP power rack for my girlfriend because she's weaker than me, and a Titan series short rack for myself. She'll be fine with a 300 lb limit for a while, but if want a 600 lb for myself. Are these the best two for the price at our weight requirements?
Progress would stall pretty quickly with goblet squats. I'm just trying to think of what I'd be ok with my wife using. I think the stands in your OP could be trusted if she were to do front squats. They just don't look that stable and it would be awkward trying to re-rack the bar after back squats, but controlling the bar in front of you would be much less cumbersome.
I would still go with something like this as a minimal rack but if you don't have the space you don't have the space. Now you know why I kicked my cars out of the garage.
I have the same squat rack and just upgraded my j-hooks a couple months ago and it was a fantastic decision. They're currently on sale for 25 bucks on Amazon! Highly recommended upgrade.
https://www.amazon.com/Yes4All-Pair-Hooks-Power-Squat/dp/B071YP4VPN/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=yes4all+j+cup&qid=1562790519&s=gateway&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-2
I went contrary to most opinions on here and bought new. I bought bar and weights off of xtrainingequipment. I believe a 320lb set of bumper weights came out to 700 with an olympic bar as well.
I bought this rack and although it took about 2 hours to put together by myself, I've absolutely loved it since.
I also bought this bench on Amazon and have no real complaints, although I can't put my finger on why I don't absolutely love it. I've definitely felt better benches at gyms.
Squat Cage for 6' Ceiling - Short Power Rack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FPVTL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_v0Plzb89ZGPN8
I've had this rack for about 6 months now. I'm 5'9" and have no size limitations. Easy to switch from squats to bench etc. The fail bars are also reliable. It come in 2 boxes and is easy to assemble; takes about an hour. With my 7 foot ceilings I am able to do full ROM pull-ups, I just have to hang with my feet behind my butt (I'm sure there's a better way to describe this). There are two plate racks in the bottom front that work for a 300lb set however, it would be nice to to have them on the sides of the rack as well.
http://imgur.com/Djw6BE1
Edit: I should probably add that I've had no more than 225lbs on the bar so I can't verify its durability with heavier weight.
I love my power rack. If cost is a concern, reviewers seem fairly satisfied with this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GHNLK9E/
Personally, I got a more expensive one, with potential upgrades in mind.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QZ2G7FY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1458436648&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=tds+rack&dpPl=1&dpID=41GsUjhVzgL&ref=plSrch
I have something like this one (older model) and I would definitely say that it's worth the few extra bucks to get a real cage. There is peace of mind in knowing that if I dump something ugly, I can. Stalk free shipping or find something similar IRL.
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00HYQP72O?cache=aec0e092d944f7b06a3a89641d502dcf&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1410114633&sr=8-2#ref=mp_s_a_1_2
Shipping was really good. It's a bit wobbly but I didnt drill it into the ground yet, im not sure if it will fix it though. It has a capacity of 300lbs so for now it will work for me. I plan on buying a better rack eventually once I start getting stronger. Also it doesnt have safety stands.
I would personally get this power rack with the dip attachments if you have the height allowance. It looks sturdier, is ‘one’ piece of equipment with attachments, and it gives you the flexibility to expand to barbell exercises if you wanted to.
Currently just started working out again recently. I currently have
fitness reality squat rack/bench
CAP 7ft Olympic bar
powerblock elite dumbbels
CAP ez curl bar
Goal: I'm skinny being 6'2 and weighing 140lbs. My goal is to get calves and biceps. When I used to go to the gym all the time. I used to enjoy using their cables to do lat pull downs, standing pull downs etc.
So I'm stuck between a cable machine or maybe something that can workout my calves like a sitting calf raises matchine
https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Power-Rack-Exercise-Stand/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1486450351&sr=1-1&keywords=cap+power+rack
I just replaced my stamina power tower with this because it is a lot better for rings work. Really like it so far.
I was looking at a yellow hulk fitness one too, but i don't have any regrets.
The bench you linked and the squat rack probably only have a weight limit of 300 pounds.
Not worth buying.
For Deadlifts to protect your floor you need something like horse stall mats and a lifting platform. Or horse stall mats and bumpers. (I got horse stall mats and the diamond pro bumpers from Walmart)
This rack gets good reviews (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NBOVAIJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510675575&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=fitness+reality+810xlt+super+max+power+cage+with+weight+bench&dpPl=1&dpID=51lKZOJI16L&ref=plSrch)
Look at Rep Fitness (better quality) or Titan (cheaper) for actually equipment that can handle lifting heavy
This guy is all you need. I used it for years with upwards of 300# when doing squats and it never failed me. Actually sold it to my buddy who still uses it and loves it as well.
You could get a separate dip station or something I guess
Depending how tall you are will depend on the viability of the pull up bars being tall enough too
This open squat rack may be closer to what you want than a full box:
TDS Power, Squat & Open Rack Station
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VKGLWUU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fEcvybNVZ21HQ
It's open in the front so you can OHP in the rack & pull the bar out from DL.
It doesn't move much with pull ups.
It's cheap.
It is as strong as anything out there.
You can slam 1000lbs on the safety bars and they wont flinch.
Basically, I am in love with it but willing to share.
FITNESS REALITY 810XLT Super Max Power Cage with 800lbs Weight Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
This power rack is probably the best deal on amazon. $320 shipped, capacity up to 700lbs. Comes in 2 or 3 boxes. UPS guy probably won't hate you.
Here is one I bought 3 moths ago as a beginner. It is very cheap compared to other models but man it is very solid and easy to put together: https://smile.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/
Totally worth it.
Here is what I got:
Olympic barbell and weights - about 300 lbs. total, bought it used on Craigslist for about $200 (don't remember exactly).
I already had a set of dumbbells for curls and stuff.
This power rack:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYQP72O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02
This bench:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYTB0MC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Couple of rubber mats from Big 5, $20 each.
I roll out of bed at 5, put on workout shorts, no need for shoes, stop at the bathroom - and I am working out. Done by 6:15.
I have to take care of my kids before work - feed them, dress them, take them to school. I wouldn't be able to leave the house for an hour even if I had an gym that it open that early nearby, and I don't. Closest 24 Hour Fitness is 4 miles away, which means that I have to drive or bike, and it will take at least another 20 minutes to get there and back. It is Super Sport, so it would cost me $50 per month. If I spent $500 on my home gym - it will pay off by the end of the year, and I still have all the equipment I can resell.
Looks like a valor fitness bd-7 rack that's been painted blue. It would be a good deal without the plates. Jump on it.
https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-7-Power-Attachment/dp/B002EJC990
May want to look into this one as well https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7Z2GGN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_itb8CbKCGKKR0
This is the one I have, dip bars, safety rack, and 2 pull up poles as well as a pull system .
Hey, i'm kinda in the same boat as OP. I live in an apartment where all my doors meet with corners so I can't put up a door frame pull up bar. Do you think this would work? http://www.amazon.ca/Cap-Barbell-Power-Exercise-Stand/dp/B00HYQP72O
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I thought it was an option... this would allow me to hang rings, do pullups and use my TRX.
Any cons you can see, or better solutions?
Used would be a great way to go if you can find something you like. This PowerLine rack plus lat attachment would also be within your budget. I'm guessing most people on this sub will recommend a "clean" rack for basic barbell lifts rather than something like that Weider with all the gizmos, but it really comes down what you want to use it for.
With these 24" racks you'll still need the room outside of the cage for your lifts. The folding racks aren't made to work inside of it
Could you fit a 48" cage where you would be working inside of it?
https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Short-Power-Squat-Deadlift/dp/B00NAHQP90
This titan is less than 72" tall and comes with safety rods. This is a good option for someone working out alone.
I'm actually finding almost nothing on Craigslist. You mention Fitness Reality - something like this would just barely fit in my basement:
https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-810XLT-Super-Power/dp/B01N4I8FOY?th=1
Are their comparable ones of less price? For example, I don't need 800# capacity, and I actually don't need a pullup bar. In fact one that high in my basement, I would not be able to get my head above the bar (I have 85" of room - this one goes to 83.5" apparently).
I stated buying things as I found them on sale. The bar and weights I bought on sale from Dicks Sporting Goods a few months before I finally bought the rack. The bench can be removed and I have attachments to do leg extensions/ leg curls and preacher curls. It’s just an ok bench that is affordable.
The rack is this rack from amazon. Fitness Reality X-Class Light Commercial High Capacity Olympic Power Cage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7Z2GGN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_skc0Db0A64Z91
You don't need a power rack. Squat bars are fine...
If you really DO want a power rack, the do make them 72" tall and will fit for you:
http://www.amazon.com/TDS-C-92560-B-POWER-RACK-HIGH/dp/B008FPVTL6
There is always a way. :)
Check out the valor BD-7! I got it for $440. It's a squat rack with a upper and lower pulley system. It also has dip attachments that are only $40. It's great quality and not a crazy price.
Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBOVAIJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
$400? for $200 you can get a full sized squat rack on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4I8FOY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I used to have one of those benches in the CL ad and on the highest setting I'd still have to do a 1/2" squat to get started with squats, plus there's no safety bars to catch if you fail and that goes for bench press too on the lack of safety.
Another hundred bucks and you've got a good quality bench:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OHQALU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Spend the rest on weights (admittedly you'll be just above the $400 price point but you won't be needing to spend more money on the same equipment a few years down the road) and whey and you'll be good to go.
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Power-Squat-Cage-NYB/dp/B00QZ2G7FY/ref=sr_1_6?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1458741186&sr=1-6&keywords=power+rack
This is the one I got and it's a STEAL in my opinion. Very sturdy. Easy Setup. Nice thickness. I think the white looks nice as well.
CAP Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand, Multiple Colors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_I-KnDbTVMZW7B
$100, easy goal. I have this one, concrete anchored to the floor, can do pull ups and swing on it all day. 230lbs, good for 300lbs
Here's the best I could find. https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-MB-G-Holder-Accessory/dp/B00NVNV0FW/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1536855468&sr=1-5&keywords=Valor+Fitness+BD-11 Do you know what pin size the IM1500 has?
That looks a lot like the Titan rack http://smile.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00GHNLK9E/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
If so, it's a pretty good deal, if it's in new condition and the J-Hooks that aren't pictured are included.
If it's not in new condition then I think it's a bit overpriced.
The fitness reality rack went on sale last night, down to 231. I pulled the trigger plus free shipping!

I got one on Amazon. Here is the link.
CAP Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand, Multiple Colors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Lu8jDbET1D95X
If you go back in my profile a bit you can check out my modifications to it. I was very happy for putting it together for about $130.
I'm 265 and had similar issue with needing something free standing that wasn't very expensive. Bought this: Cap Barbell Power Rack Exercise Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYQP72O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Xf3RBbC4DAKKV it's extremely well built and sturdy.
I'm curious if for a person starting BWF for the first time, what is the better equipment:
1: Bowflex Body Tower (http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B006353HCE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1451632703&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=Bowflex+power+tower#featureBulletsAndDetailBullets_secondary_view_div_1451668291177)
2: Cap Power Rack with rings (http://www.amazon.ca/Cap-Barbell-Power-Exercise-Stand/dp/B00HYQP72O)
Please note that the doorframe pull up bars won't work for me, and my wife won't allow me to drill holes in the walls/roof (and it's too bloody cold outside for an outdoor set). If you have any other suggestions for stuff, please let me know. 93" basement, I'm 6'5", 275lbs.
How do I go about building a gym in the garage where there is a slope? (note: No experience with wood work)
I want to be as cost effective as possible. I was thinking of just getting a platform with enough room for squat rack and deadlift. that's it. Can I just get a piece of plywood (or a couple) and put shims under it to level it out (I read this is what people did in some other posts)? I have no idea what shims are and what I should buy? help me find some links.
and as for matting, I see people have mats on the sides and plywood in the middle. Can't I just have the whole thing be mat? Also I need recs for matting, Ik there's the tractor supply horse stall mats but i checked they aren't sold near me where I can easily get them.
would i be able to use this? https://www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMASTER-Black-Gray-24-in-x-24-in-x-0-47-in-Dual-Sided-Gym-Floor-4-Pack-24120HDUS/301152506 or

Also this is the equipment I'm planning on getting:
Weights - https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-300-lbolympic-weight-set-16fgeu300lbstwth7brb/16fgeu300lbstwth7brb (just cheap weight plates, the bar I'll use exclusively for bench/ohp)

Bar - https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-Barbell-7-Olympic-Bar-1000-lbs-Capacity/19866874
or boneyard rogue bar (someone told me these were good) Which should I get?
Squat rack - https://www.amazon.com/Super-Open-Rack-Gym-NYB/dp/B00U3ABXGW (seems decent, has a lot of holes for adjustment and has 1000lbs capacity, I will always have a spotter for bench and for squat I know how to bail)
So I’m in the same situation and I’ve been thinking about getting this setup. I believe the max user weight it can hold is around 242. What’s appealing for me is that it’s portable.
Since I live in a small apartment it would be ideal if I can pack it up real quick when guests come over.
Gravity Fitness Portable Bodyweight Mate & Pull Up Rack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4EQ9V7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_I-KwCbZZ8D2D6
if you have room in your house for it, I got one of these it is awesome! I use it for gymnastic rings also
Just pulled the trigger on this guy: Fitness Reality 810XLT Super Max Power Cage. Anyone here have one?
I was looking at the fitness reality rack, seems to be good value given it has decent reviews. there's a bundle with a bench priced at 310 right now here, apparently rated to 1000 pounds
Walmart also works as well. there's this cheapass shitty gold's set that I was looking at.
You can find a full rack $180 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1)
maybe not as sturdy as the half rack, but still quite a good deal.

Pretty stable, although for me (6'0'') the bar holders can't fit where I want them to due to the bolts holding it together. End up having to start a little short on press.
you're gonna be hard pressed to find a full cage under that price point.
i used valor fitnessbd-9 power squat stands up until my squat started breaking 300 lbs for reps. after that point, not having full safety bars was getting dicey.
if you're willing to go up to $250, i've been using the fitness reality 810XLT for well over a year, and it's held up beautifully.
I over estimated most of the prices, but these are things I figured I would need in a home gym if I ever build one. If you take out a few, you can make it fit your budget.

I have this guy, it fits perfectly in my basement very short ceiling clearance
I would go for the rack since it's a lot more versatile than any individual piece of equipment. Also 8x8 isn't very big so you'll want to eliminate as many unitaskers as possible. With a budget of $600 you should try and look at used equipment on OfferUp or Craigslist to get better quality equipment, but new is not out of the question.
Here's a list of what you can get for a pretty decent setup at $600...
(Prices are sale prices. Sign up for CamelCamelCamel or Keepa and set alerts for the items on Amazon. The frequently go down to the prices listed)
Item | Price
---|---
Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Rack | $150
Fitness Reality Adjustable Bench | $85
CAP Barbell 300 lb. Olympic Grip Weight Set | $180
4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Thick Rubber Stall Mat | $40 x 3
Valor Fitness MB-A BD-7 Dip Handle Accessory Set | $35
CAP Barbell Olympic 2-Inch Plate and Bar Storage Rack | $30
That gets you to the $600 budget on the dot.
This should cover most of your needs. You can replace the plate tree with some Titan weight pegs to hang from the rack if you want that instead. You can also just throw some plywood on the floor instead of the floor mats or mix and match plywood and floor mats.
This is almost the same setup I have except I was able to pick up some dumbells and plates off OfferUp so it came out a little cheaper. So far my home gym setup is at $520 and all I'm missing is the stall mats so I should be hitting the $600 goal myself once I get those.
I got the full power rack in the garage, it's $225 on amazon. I love it.
I guess it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish but I would get something like this and add on weights and a bar
i have this and works great. not too pricey either if you just get the stand.

Hahaha, well, for a few things:
roguefitness.com for my barbells (Ohio, Ohio Power, and Matt Chan which is soon to be gone)
Power Rack
Resistance Bands
Plates I suggest you buy these in person, unless you want bumpers and can't find them
That's most of my stuff. I also got the plate trees, dumbbells, and dumbbell rack from Dick's.
Was about to invest in this myself until Amazon's price unexpectedly jumped $190 to 789. Not sure what's up, but neither Fitness Reality or Amazon was willing to help. Guess I'll wait and see if it drops again, as the previous price held for 6 months, practically the entire life of the product under the FR brand name...

The Valor BD-7 Power cage is pretty cheap on Amazon right now and holds up to 500lbs per bar holder.
http://www.amazon.com/Valor-Athletics-Inc-BD-Power/dp/B002EJC990/
Here is one example. It's just under 6 feet. If you ask me, that's a little too short even, but if that's all the room you have to work with, then it's a good option.
I have the same rack, love it. I put the whole thing together then realized I had to take that cross bar off to put he lat pulldown on.
How do you like it? I have the exact same setup but I got these J cups for inside the rack.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NVNV0FW/?coliid=I2BTZWQUZAI0E5&colid=19ZL3QAOTBDEL&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
I put the oem ones outside
r/homegym will give you some ideas. This set is pretty cheap and will get you thru the first few months of StrongLifts. I used it and didn’t bother spending on a quality bar until after 7 months when my deadlift went over 350 and started bending my starter bar pretty badly. You’ll also need a squat rack or st the very least a half rack. I got mine from Amazon. That’s all you’d need for the main lifts and should serve you well for 6-12 months.
I have this one and it suits my needs fine. I bought it at Play it Again Sports rather than Amazon, though.
I have it on a flat cement floor and I've found it to be sturdy even doing hanging leg raises (I can't do pullups because it's in my basement with a low ceiling) and it doesn't get bolted down or anything.
I'm 5'-1", for what it's worth.
Looks like the same cheap ones I bought off amazon from some random seller. No real issues other than the knurling from my Texas power bar slowly grinding away the finish to get to the bare metal which is turning rusty.
Edit: just a little different for the support underneath. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YP4VPN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You could, theoretically, rest a bar on the squat rack of this power tower: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYQP72O?redirect=true&ref_=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza. The squat rack goes "low enough to do bench press" which should be low enough to do rows. The only risk, of course, would be that the bar rolls off the rack while you're doing rows -- but the rack looks pretty deep so that shouldn't be a problem.
This power rack is pretty good and usually on sale for <$200
I've been able to test it with a full Olympic set (45x2, 35x2, 25x2, 10x2, 5x4, 2.5x2) on each side with no issues (300 pounds including bar). I don't know if I would be loading much more than that, though.
It also doesn't have a bail-out safety for squats.
I got this two months ago and couldn't be happier:
300lbs weight set: $200 http://www.dunhamssports.com/product/300-lb-olympic-weight-set/
power rack + lat pull attachment: $436 https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-7-Power-Attachment/dp/B002EJC990
2x 45lbs plates: $70 https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-Barbell-2-Olympic-Grip-Plate-Single/47917559
fitness reality bench $80 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CR4XFIK
dip belt $30 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9AF408
dumbbells $200 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087T8UOE
I looked pretty hard on craigslist for local deals for a few weeks, but it's hard to beat the above prices.
I've been a member of a few gyms, and don't really have horror stories, but it's so much nicer being in complete control of everything.
I would recommend barbells + weights + squat rack.
If your basement's ceiling is low like mine is, I'd recommend one of these low ceiling squat racks:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FPVTL6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
Been using this one since 2008. Squatted over 500lbs multiple times in it, dropped weights on it, moved it 4 times, still holding up strong.
The rack is this one I got off of Amazon for around $150: it is a favorite in r/homegym.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_.vGEzbDEDMKQV
The 350+ lbs of plates, bench, bar and a half rack I plan to flip on CL were $340 used. The material for the platform came to about $200, so around $700 total as pictured, which is what I was spending every 3 months on a trainer and gym I've outgrown.

EDIT: spelling is still hard.
It looks like a regular work out rack for doing squats. I imagine you can find one just about any place that sells work out equipment. Here's one right off Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HYQP72O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1417800371&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
It looks like it's in stock at amazon for about the same price: https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/dp/B00LAHY7UQ
Thanks! I'll check those places out. Only reason why I asked about the $100 tag is because of this and this
If there's a Dicks sporting goods by you, this is a really good deal for a weight set. Store pickup
https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-300-lb-olympic-weight-set-16fgeu300lbstwth7brb/16fgeu300lbstwth7brb
And for rack
https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498684471&sr=8-1&keywords=fitness+reality+810xlt+super+max+power+cage
Looks solid, 2" welded square steel, adjustable safeties, pull up bar, and it looks like an olympic weight lat pulldown attachment in the back.
If it fits in your gym, I'd snatch it up for only $150 unless it looks sketchy as hell in person.
It's similar to this one on Amazon, and its $450 new.
A barbell, bumper plates, and a rack will break that couple-hundred bucks alone. You'll definitely need those. I suggest building your own plyo boxes if you can, the standard ones are surprisingly expensive.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBOVAIJ/ really like it. Took a bit to put together, but it's solid.
I wish I had an open-topped rack, so I'd prefer the second one, but that's way more steel than my 375 squat requires.
If I had it to do over again I'd get this one: https://www.amazon.com/Station-Safety-professioanlly-Knurled-Chinning/dp/B00VKGLWUU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495036817&sr=8-1&keywords=tds+open+rack
I have their equivalent full cage, and it's solid.
Body Solid 7' bar - $100 https://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Oly-Power-Black/dp/B005PGBFQW/
Fitness Reality cage - $180 https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/
Get plates at your local sports store or Wal mart. I used a similar set up for 10+ years before the bushings in my barbell wore out.
Is there anything wrong with buying a rack like this one?
https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499726242&sr=8-1&keywords=Ironman+810XLT
Seems good enough for what kind of weight I'll be dealing with.

I purchased this power rack and love it. It has a built in pull-up bar and can hold 800 pounds. It feels very sturdy in case you have to dump the weight. Also has accessories for dips and other workouts. It’s on sale for approximately $280USD it was $330 when I purchased
Personally, I always feel like the dip bars on power towers are too wide. I've tried a few of them out in Dick's Sporting Goods and it doesn't feel like a good position to sustain for multiple dips. So, that might be something to consider if you purchase one of these. I just did a quick search for more detailed dimensions of that particular model but I didn't have any luck. Maybe, get a power tower with less "features" like this Cap Barbell Power Rack from Amazon and then you can get some rings and throw them over the bar? The price fluctuates quite a bit; at the end of April it was down to $50.59 and occasionally gets down into the $65 price range.
Remember that F=ma so the higher you'll be dropping it, the heavier it lands. I recommend the TDS Short Power Rack or Titan T-2 Series Short Power Rack. You'll have to sit down for OHP and pull your legs behind for pull-ups though.
Yeah I thought about Craigslist. Thing is I want the equipment to all be the same brand/look/function so we have a look of uniformity and that'd be near impossible to make happen with craigslist. I was looking at maybe seeing if I could fundraise to buy 5-6 of these.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GHNLK9E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1UMJD02VNELDF
$280 I believe. But the normal price has gone up quite a bit since then.
camelcamelcamel.com is a good source for checking price history. I couldn't find the short rack on amazon, but here it is for the normal T3:
https://camelcamelcamel.com/Titan-Power-Squat-Deadlift-Bench/product/B00LAHY7UQ
Investing in a home gym was the best thing I ever did for my body. I hate top 40 pop bullshit and love to blast podcasts and audio books while i workout on my own time with my own shit without waiting one second for a rack while some tool quarter squats or curls.
I can't speak highly enough about this rack: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VKGLWUU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Czfuzb8YD85BK . It is open instead of a box, so you can do ohp in it with safety bars as well as squat and bench. It is sturdy as fuck with safety bars that are rated at 1,000 lbs and i believe it.
I personally prefer to use rings for dips because they cost $20, can be hung from the pullup bar on my rack, and work more stabilizer muscles. I use a weight belt for dips and pullups.
Pull the trigger. I spent about $600 on everything I need a year ago, and after a year without gym fees, I'm basically making money.
Ah, yeah. I should have specified. The squat rack I have includes a pull up bar.
