[Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things] (http://www.amazon.com/Furiously-Happy-Funny-Horrible-Things/dp/1250077001) by Jenny Lawson. It's a hilarious memoir filled with crazy stories, weird lists, inspirational nuggets of wisdom, and incredibly tender moments.

My favorite quote: “Don’t make the same mistakes that everyone else makes. Make wonderful mistakes. Make the kind of mistakes that make people so shocked that they have no other choice but to be a little impressed.”

You're not alone. That little voice is a liar. Depression lies. (((Hugs)))

While not necessarily a self-help book, I highly recommend Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson. She was not raised by Narcissists. She has anxiety and depression along with a host of other health issues.

There's a soothing, "You're not alone and you're not a freak," feel to reading the book. She walks us through some of her coping strategies but makes it clear that this is not a one-size-fits-all situation.

BQ: My favorite book in the last year had to be Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson. She just does such an amazing job of explaining how we should see depression/mental illness. The book is also about her struggles with mental health and chronic illness, but she makes you laugh so much through the book. I'm sure it is not for anyone, but if you have a loved one dealing with depression this is a book I would recommend. I have bought copies for people just so they could read it.

Yesterday:

I got everything done on my list, BUT I tried to submit my very last module test and the damn site will not let me. I'm going to be so pissed if I have to retake this test :( I will have to contact the school once they open. Sigh.

In better news, I made more progress in the garden! Planted romaine lettuce, sweet peppers, habaneros, chives, dill, and put mulch around all the new strawberries. I figure by the weekend I should have the raised beds fully planted and the potted stuff pretty close to done! Our dinner salad was also pretty awesome :)

Today:

  • Contact school about test issue

  • Review flashcards for final

  • 1 hour of gardening

  • Laundry

  • Contact doctor if blood work is still not ready (UGH!)

There is a wonderful book you should read: Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson which is by a woman in similar circumstances working with it the best she can. It is also hilarious.

Wow! It's crazy how this crazy little world can come full circle so quickly. I'm reading your post as I'm browsing reddit while struggling to go to sleep, as I often do at night. Earlier today I started reading a book that was recommended to me by a friend. Now I know how unhelpful it is to admit that you're struggling mentally/emotionally/physically and have someone simply throw a book in your face in response, saying "Read this!" and just walk away. But truth be told, I too am in the early stages of coming to terms with some of the mental health problems that I've been toting around underneath my over-achieving, and high-functioning type-A personality. But this book makes it seem a bit more manageable. I don't know, I hope it helps. It's called "Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things" by Jenny Lawson. It has absolutely nothing to do (at least not so far in what I've torn through) with being gay, but I hope it helps you too! Cheers and best of luck friend!
