and this processor if you need something for now.
I may have a case or PSU laying around, but I dont know. Same for HDD
If budget is really tight get Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_D7dQ
Drop the ram down. These 760 mobo will only run the ram at 1333mhz. The 760 chipset is very old. it will also gimp your ssd because it only has sata 2. The board your looking for thats out of stock is the same way.
If you want fast ram to work and sata 3 for the ssd you need a 970 or 990 like
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055QYKQO/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_SceQub1SZ2VNG
Or a bit cheaper
ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 Motherboard , http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-157-394
In case you TL;DR:
AMD is better bang for your buck. Intel is better for cutting-edge. Cutting edge is only relevant to $1500 procs, therefore anything Intel makes that's below AMDs top processor at the time, is basically overpriced.
Basically, the main differences between AMD and Intel are as follows:
AMD:
Cheaper than Intel in basically every facet
Uses 1 physical core per thread (irrelevant unless you're getting a very expensive CPU)
Intel:
Take your example build:
Proc - $117 - No heat sink or water cooling. 2 core, 4 threads
https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-6100-Cache-Processor-BX80662I36100/dp/B015VPX2EO
Board $76 - Not a lot to say about the board unless there's something about it you specifically want or like, if it works and supports all the cards and such you'll be needing, a board is a board.
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-Skylake-Motherboard-H110M/dp/B01B4U47E4
That's $193, and you get:
Building a cheapo AMD rig:
Proc - $105 - 8 core/8 thread @4.2 GHz - Comes with heat sink and pre-applied thermal paste in my experience.
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-8-Core-FX-8300-Processor-FD8300WMHKBOX/dp/B00TR8YL4W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1481881649&sr=1-1&keywords=amd+fx+8300
Mobo - $57 - Same as last mobo, if it does what you need it to as per what you're looking for, and fits your case, a mobo is a mobo. Cheapo one for sure.
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1481880866&sr=1-2&keywords=am3%2B+motherboard
That's $162, and you get:
DDR3 ram is also cheaper, which is another thing to think about and price out. AMD doesn't support DDR4 yet, thus using DDR3 still, that intel board requires DDR4. Expect to pay more.
So, in these examples, you can see that you get a lot more for a lot less pretty easy with AMD. I currently have an AMD rig with the FX 8350 in it, which is basically a more stable 8300 with a base speed of 4GHZ instead of 3.3, both can reach 4.2GHz.
I personally rock the 970 Aura by Asus (mobo). It's been great to me, and has some LEDs on it for the extra lookers!
A lot of people have biases towards either product, but my bias for AMD is just because of rational, why pay more for less? I haven't noticed any differences in problem rates with Intel vs AMD, either, it's not like they just make cheap garbage parts ;)

In order of what would be my preference, each price drop means you get fewer features in the chipset but all 3 should have adequate performance for standard gaming.
This is cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009FC3YJ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1452088764&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=Am3%2B&dpPl=1&dpID=51WPgjfTaOL&ref=plSrch
Thanks for the heads up on the cover. I took it off myself because it wasn't low profile. I'll set this project aside and just buy a new card with the appropriate cover.
So I managed to get this one to show up, but I have trouble getting it to recognize anything I plug in.
From my research, I found that switching to legacy helped alot of people.
Upon trying to install legacy drivers, I get a serious freeze followed by bsod every time.
The product I intend to use recommends TI chipset, so my plan was to buy one that had TI, which would concern me if this one had it and doesn't work.
What are my options here? Would win 10 fix this? How about a newer pci card like this one?

Sorry for asking so many questions! So the i5 7500 would work with the motherboard I posted? Also plan to get a 1060 3GB now as you recommended
The FX6300 is AM3+ while the athlon is FM2
Not sure whant you wanted to link to you so here's the fx6300 motherboard

This is the motherboard that I am planning to install the chip in: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009FC3YJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I was considering buying a new cpu altogether, which of course is extra $$(plus heatsink & thermal paste), but if its my only option, so be it.
So I just bought a new motherboard, the Gigabyte AM3+ A-78LMT-USB3, and was curious of the higher end processors and video cards I could add and have it be compatible. Or just recommendations of nice ones that are cheap ish. Any help is appreciated.
Another question for my first build happening tomorrow:
Can I expect the motherboard to come with all cables necessary to plug things into it? If I have 2 drives, will there be cables ready to plug them in?
If necessary, here's the motherboard I ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009FC3YJ8/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i04?ie=UTF8&psc=1
He has a Gigabyte LMT78. I wouldn't bother OC'ing the CPU with mobo. It'll fry his mobo, most likely.
http://www.amazon.in/Gigabyte-GA-78LMT-USB3-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard/dp/B009FC3YJ8
Plus with those specs, OP most likely has a shoddy PSU as well, not worth the trouble. A simple GFX swap should be fine for him.
On closer inspection, you would probably need a new motherboard to support a new CPU since the one you have is AM2.

Yeah, we only have the microATX mid-tower case. Think we're going to go with this board, it's got pretty good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009FC3YJ8/?tag=pcpapi-20
Thanks for all your help. If switching out this mobo doesn't work, do you think that means the CPU is faulty? I can't say I've ever heard of a DOA CPU.
Edit: Also, wanted to say that the 750m has a downward facing fan, so we should be good on that front..
Looks great! I've found a cheaper mobo through Amazon, because more bundling usually lowers shipping costs.
http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8
$50 instead of 56. I have it in one of my machines and it's ridiculously durable, still works after I managed to flex the actual board about 3/4ths of an inch while trying to remove it from the case.
The only thing is lacks however is SATA 3, but seeing as you don't have an SSD in the plans that won't be a problem. Even if you do decide to upgrade to an SSD later, SATA 2 is still just fine for an SSD.
Don't let anyone deter you from getting the FX6300, an i5 is going to be at least 75% more expensive just for differences that you won't even notice in real world gaming. It's definitely good enough for high-ultra settings for any games in the next couple of years.
looking for an extra 8 gb of ram can anyone reccomend some please.

thanks for the build info. I noticed that MB doesn't have a HDMI connection. Would I be better off with MB that does? Like:

Or would adding a vid card be better?
Yes I already have a ssd drive ready to be used. I figured $300 was way overkill for my limited needs, but just put it out there for a high-end estimate.

I'm doing my first build. And I bought this motherboard (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item) its USB 3. I just wanna 100% it's compatible it's compatible with the header of this case (https://m.cclonline.com/product/207859/GMX-PROTEUS/Cases/Game-Max-Proteus-Gaming-PC-Case-with-Illuminated-front-Logo-with-1-x-USB3/CAS2606/?gclid=Cj0KEQjw0IvIBRDF0Yzq4qGE4IwBEiQATMQlMW2NGzJnVWM2zmtLWDMxOEHyfjD6aDTn7f7NJtGP8n0aAv7i8P8HAQ)
I guess you can say its a pretty outdated one: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8
So updating the BIOS isn't complicated, but it can be risky, particularly if your system is randomly shutting down. If it shuts down during the update procedure, it can brick the board. I don't see that motherboard having any kind of backup or dualBIOS setup so the only way to fix would be purchasing separate equipment to re-flash.
If you do decide to update the BIOS, I'd let it sit in the BIOS first for about 30 minutes to see if it shuts down randomly during that time or not. If not, I'd shut the system down for about an hour, boot it up, enter the BIOS and immediately flash. Just in case it is an issue with something else, heatwise, that should be quick enough to not cause any blips while updating.
Picture of the mosfets is correct. Again, I don't know if thats the issue for sure or not, just that it is something cheap to try and see.
As far as new motherboards, I haven't been keeping up with AM3/3+ stuff at all since I updated my system last year. Without knowing an exact budget, something similar to this would be good: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519771141&sr=1-1&keywords=am3%2B+motherboard+matx
Doesn't have to be that board but I see people OCing FX8350s on the and they don't say anything about random crashing.
And just something else to check too: that the fan on the power supply is functioning correctly. Power supplies can overheat as well but there's no monitoring for it so it is just something you have to manually inspect. Firstly that the fan works when the system is on. Otherwise, while the system is off and unplugged, you can usually get a tiny screwdriver or such and try to manually spin the fan. It should spin freely with no resistance. We've had a few of our office systems with bad heatsink fans over the past few years causing crashes and random shutdowns.
Yo what is this article, it's made a list of the top 5 pre-built gaming PC's and they are all by the same brand, are they just the only competitive pre-built manufacturer?
Anyway, quick amazon US search (amazon isn't even the cheapest place for a lot of these parts) shows that all those parts are worth maybe 460 dollars (plus a case and windows which you can get for free) they also don't list any of the models/brands so I assume that means they are terrible, on the amazon search I get legit brands like EVGA for the PSU. You said you don't have a lot of money so I would definitely just build your own, other people have linked to subreddits that can tell you what components are best for the money for what you're going to be using it for, wouldn't be surprised if you could be playing CS:GO at 300 fps on a 450 dollar computer. When you buy a pre-built you are basically paying the manufacturer an extra 30% for them to build it for you, which is like 150 dollars in this case, for what would take you a couple of hours, idk anyone who's time is worth that much, you also lose the ability to save money by cutting costs in certain areas, you don't need a sick GPU to play CS:GO afaik for example.

What should I look for in a motherboard? (apart from chipset and form factor).
I don't remember ever using any particular motherboard features and I'm curious if there's anything important I'm missing, or if I can just keep using the bargain bin cheapest I can find.
Unless there's some important features I don't know about, I'm looking for the cheapest motherboard I can find for an AMD FX-8350, and the Gigabyte GA-78LMT for $60 is what I'm looking at.
