Ok, I'm going to disagree with the majority of prior responses. I feel that ENO hammocks are overpriced. A hammock is not exactly a high-tech piece of equipment. It's a rectangle of cloth, hemmed, and gathered at two opposite ends. The only "fancy" part of a hammock is the suspension, which it sounds like you've already got a bit of a handle on.

For a beginner hammock, I would recommend that you go ahead and buy a cheap hammock off of Amazon. The bigger the better -- most proper hammocks are 11ft long (or more!) This looks like a large, cheap hammock and comes in a huge variety of colors (though it looks like some of the colors are different sizes, so be careful!). It looks like it comes with decent atlas-style tree straps, which are beginner-friendly although they're heavier than I'd want to backpack with.

When I buy cheap hammocks, I replace the built-in loops with Amsteel continuous loops. I know a lot of people make them, but I usually just buy mine at DutchWareGear. (Pro tip: you can buy one color for your head end and a different color for your foot end, and then you don't have to have the hammock all the way unpacked to hang the right end in the right place. This is mostly moot with this hammock unless you like the stuff sack to hang on a specific side.)

As far as suspension goes, I've stopped using all the fancy stuff and just use 1 inch x 12 foot straps with a loop on one end. I wrap each strap around a tree, pass the strap through its own loop and then tie to my continuous loops using a Becket Hitch. Lightweight and simple, with no extra bits to lose (as long as I don't wander off and leave my straps looped around a tree...

I would encourage you to check out Hammock Camping 101 by Derek Hansen -- lots and lots of info for hammocking newbies :) Of note: unless you're using it in 75+ degree weather, you're going to want some kind of insulation underneath you.
