Why not use a PS2 usb adapter?

u/AedandoRL · 6 pointsr/GuitarHero

Just get yourself this HDE PS2 to USB adapter and it'll work great for Clone Hero!

At most, all you'll have to do is bind the buttons in the main menu by pressing SPACEBAR. Then you should be all set to rock and roll.

This one :

It seems to get the job done, but everyone on the subreddit has an opinion on what controller/adaptor is best, so your mileage may vary. The best part is it was only abkut $10.

One of these, Xbox360 CE is a must if you're going to use a DS2 on PC.

Here is an amazon listing for a product that does that. You may to read the reviews and look at similar products to find the best one. I have no personal experience using these.

  1. thpsx.com or thmods.com
  2. No, we don't know. Rumor has it they're working on THAW at the moment, but I can't confirm.
  3. Pick up an adapter. Here's one I found. Then download a mapping tool, like Xpadder and set it up to how you want it to be.

Well, the setup is basically two pieces...

  • Sony DualShock 2 controller (I have plenty of my old ones from PS2, still mint condition, that I use. Probably hard to find these new, but possible with eBay and Amazon. If you have some of your own of these, you're halfway there.)

  • DualShock2-to-USB Adapter (Amazon Examples: [1], [2], [3].. these create a DirectInput gamepad on your PC, not Xinput (Xbox 360/One gamepad), so while great for emulators and PC games that have customizable controls, they won't work for newer PC/Steam games that assume you're using a 360 gamepad.

The adapter will also work with the Sony PlayStation 1 original gamepad and DualShock 1.

Also... if you have a SNES gamepad, here's an adapter for that. (But I find the extra L2/R2, analog sticks and their L3/R3 buttons are useful for other emulation buttons such as speed-up, save state, load state, etc).

For the controller I would recommend getting one of these bad boys. For the slow laptop problem I really can't say anything. You might be able to do some testing with the emulator and see what you can run. If you really like playing all the old games it might be better to invest in a gaming computer so you can run all the amazing emulators out there.
Here is a list of the emulators they have and yes they even go as far as the last gen consoles and current gen nintendo console (x360, ps3 and wiiU). If you want any help with getting started just toss me a message or comment reply(either for emulators you might be able to run or building a pc I'm down for either.
Also on another note I got my install of Ubuntu done up all nice and pretty :D

Here's an Amazon link for a PS2 to USB adapter. This doesn't answer your question (I'm not sure if soldering alone could produce the same effect), but it's an easy and cheap option.

Hey there! I've been shopping for one myself. I've just ordered the following adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096PSFBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ordered this one last week and it was a bunch of cheap rubbish: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SPA46M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

New one should be here on Tuesday. I'll try to remember this thread and let you know how it works.

By the way, do you use any sort of emulators?

u/tomkatt · 1 pointr/emulation

Something like this should do it. I'd do a bit of research though, as it's been years since I used a PS2-to-USB adapter, so I don't know if some are better than others.

u/witty-original-name · 1 pointr/emulation

Looks nice, but damn, I could get a new Logitech Gamepad for like $10 less! Trying to spend as little as possible :/

I was thinking of trying some cheap janky-looking thing like this or this. Is there a catch with these cheapo models? Reviews seem pretty inconsistent! Thanks for the reply.

u/StarPupil · 1 pointr/KingdomHearts

Well, there are plenty of converters from the PS2 controllers to USB, so try taking a look at amazon for those. They seem to be pretty cheap, all things considered, and then you don't have to buy a new controller or anything.

u/gratarian · 1 pointr/DanceDanceRevolution

I'm wondering if you could use a coupler to a PS2 adapter.

USB Type A Female to Female then
PS2 to USB Adapater

Not sure if this wouldn't work since it is expecting the connection to go from PS2 to USB rather than from USB to PS2.

u/EczyEclipse · 1 pointr/CloneHero

This is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0096PSFBG/

Low latency, and whammy works. I haven't been able to get star power tilt to work with it though.

u/DemacianKnight · 1 pointr/osugame

Did you get this one by any chance? As far as I can tell, none of the PS2 connectors seem to work.

u/D1screet · 1 pointr/Fighters

Seeing as how your stick is meant for PS2/Xbox, you'll likely need a PS2 to PS3/PC adapter like this

But then again, I'm not actually even 100% that it will work since I haven't tried it myself.

u/chickenpie233 · 1 pointr/KingdomHearts

You can make your problem 999x easier if you go with the PC route. Also, if you miss the nostalgia and really want to play with a ps2 controller buy this, it's what I use and it's compatible with ps1, ps2, and ps3 controllers. I'm using a PS1 right now on it and it works flawlessly. This way, you can use a ps controller on your PC while playing kh2fm. I'm pretty nostalgic myself, but I believe you only need 60 fps on the game to run which isn't much firepower required for most pcs these days.
