Hello Kitty?

I am firmly of the opinion that toaster quality is a sign of the decline of civilization as we know it. They've only gotten worse and worse at an accelerating rate over the last two decades. Even newfangled glass, laser, and uhm... whatsit radiation models make crappy toast. I have no fewer than six, yes SIX rejected appliances from different appliance Illuminati sitting in a pile just waiting to evolve into a new life form that can actually make evenly browned toast.

You'd think for a hundred bucks they could make wires that got evenly hot when you push down the lever but Noooo. There's always something. It won't let go of the toast. It shoots the toast across the room. It consistently burns the image of Godzilla into one side (actually, that would be pretty cool). It magically reads your mind and randomly adjusts itself to the perfect inverse of what brown-ness you desire. It asks too many questions when you just want tea.

Please, someone, anyone. Invent self toasting knives soon.

No bread was harmed in the making of this rant but models from Black & Decker, Braun, Kitchenaid, Breville, Procter-Silex, & Hamiliton Beach certainly were.

• As for the story... I went on a small vacation to see my little nieces first ballet recital. It was about a two and a half hour drive, which wouldn't have been bad at all, the recital was at six. Buuuut, we had to move that day. Like, be out of our apartment for good that day. So we got up early as hell, busted ass all day, and headed out. My boyfriend and I both got really, really sick. The drive sucked, we missed most of the recital because I felt so sick that I couldn't stop crying, and I was so over heated that I had to keep leaving the hall. It was so awful. My niece was great, though.
