So first ot add perspective, I own Rock Band 2 Cymbals, so YMMV a bit if you own newer ones.

You're going to need the following tools:

  1. Philips Head Screwdriver
  2. Soldering Iron.
  3. Wire cutters/strippers
  4. Hot Glue (I'll explain in a minute)
  5. Heatshrink (for the headphone jack replacement)
  6. A multimeter with a speaker for checking conductivity

Depending on what you need to replace (just the headphone jack or the entire cabling) you'll need:

    For headphone jack only:

  7. A replacement headphone jack (like this one)

    For the entire cable:

  8. A replcement wire and jack (like this one)

So to replace the headphone jack only:

  9. cut the wire before where you think the break is in the line
  10. Strip back the small wires inside the black cable and expose the three small cables inside. slide the heatshrink on the cable and let it sit there for a moment.
  11. As you solder on the old wires to the new head, the green wire gets soldered to the tip, the white to the middle, and the black to the base.
  12. slide the heatshrink back to the end where the headphone jack is now connected to the wire and use a hair dryer to strengthen the cable to the new headphone jack.

If you're replacing the entire cable:

  13. You'll need to open the bottom of your cymbal with a screwdriver
  14. There will be a tiny circuit board about the size of 2 fingernails that needs to be removed. Pay attention to the order of the wires on that board. For me, it was white, black, green. (Picture of board here)
  15. Figure out which wires are associated with the new cable. Solder the middle cable to the white line's/ inner wire's hole, the base cable to the middle/black hole, and the tip to the outer/green line's hole. For the cable I showed you, you'll go white - no wire - red.
  16. Now you've probably destroyed the wire crimphead that comes into the cymbyl head. I would use hot glue to replace that crimphead after I finished soldering the wire back ot the board and after I've put the cover back onto the cymbal.

    Hope this helps.

If I purchase this soldering iron kit-https://www.amazon.com/Soldering-Electronics-Adjustable-Temperature-Desoldering/dp/B0756VKPTB/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1535914270&sr=8-6&keywords=solder+iron

And this 3.5mm replacement-https://www.amazon.com/HTTX-Soldering-Replacement-Adapter-Headphone/dp/B076JD6C7H/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1535914365&sr=8-15&keywords=3.5mm+headphone+jack

Will that be all I need. Sorry if the questions are obvious, I'm new to DIY repair in this sense. I appreciate your reply!

EDIT- Or would this 3.5mm kit be better, as it comes with heat shrink tubing and wire specifically sized for this purpose? https://www.amazon.com/Timibis-Stereo-Connector-Headphone-Soldering/dp/B01D34HSTK/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1535915096&sr=8-31&keywords=3.5mm+headphone+jack

ACTUALLY-would it be possible to just get another cable, such as this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R10DWWK/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stppvp_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=d45777d6-4c64-4117-8332-1659db52e64f&pd_rd_wg=eXaUu&pf_rd_r=7WG87GZBVXH0HBSVF9YM&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-bottom-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B00R10DWWK&pd_rd_w=RjFU2&pf_rd_i=3.5mm+audio+cable&pd_rd_r=425bdcc2-d079-4e65-8edc-72bc9390877f&ie=UTF8&qid=1535911704&sr=1

cut it, and connect the wires and cover with Polyurethane Silicone or heat shrink tubing and skip dealing with the jack all together? WHat do you think?
