Next time you have a few bucks you might want to consider a muscle roller and a trigger point self massager, they're handy.

Also, you can always commiserate with the other hurt people of reddit in /r/ChronicPain.

The lightest weight roller I found is this one at nine ounces But ultimately I decided that was still too heavy to carry around and I just use my trekking Pole in a similar fashion.

Foam rolling!! All the way up from hip area to the calf. I just recovered from ITBS and have my half coming up next week! :) I had the exact same pain and it was truly the most discouraging thing. Also, stretches! My physical therapist suggested the pigeon pose and clamshells, for clamshells I would open -hold 10 seconds- and go back down 3 sets of 10 each leg. This shit is gonna suck man. And it's going to suck when you do 2 mile runs and start limping afterwards but I guarantee even when you're doing the stretches and foam rolls and it doesn't feel like it's helping, it does. The first thing my physical therapist told me was "See I like working with runners, because they're always the most determined to get back out there and recover" you got this OP. Edit: I'd also recommend getting one of these, this worked better than a foam roller imo, it's what the PT tech would use on me. Doesn't have to be this brand, but as long as it's the stick thing.

Get one of these bad boys, wrap ice packs to your shins after a run, and look into custom orthotics.

Find a chiropractor!

Not just for your shins but everything. It makes OTF so much better.

I have peroneal tendonitis in my left ankle and jogging, fast walking, and inclines used to cause me so much pain I couldn’t be on the treadmill at all. I see a chiropractor for my ankle once a week and I’m getting well over a mile jogging every class now. It has taken a lot of adjustments and stim treatments but it has been worth it.

Also I have shoes and inserts specific to my needs from fleet feet.

Also I use this rolling stick on my tendons and muscles before every class.

What works for me is to flex my foot on the side with the pain and grab my toes with a straight leg and pull my heal up. Also staying hydrated. One of thes helps too: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015RKCWR6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1527113187&sr=8-3&keywords=massage+stick+muscle+roller&dpPl=1&dpID=51KxVSY1dML&ref=plSrch

You need to stretch. Also looks into a muscle roller, like this. It'll get rid of all those knots in to time.

I just recently purchased the Idson roller. How does the Stick compare?
