I ctrl-f'd 'watch' and got nothing, so here goes my rant:

WEAR A WATCH.

Yes, your phone can tell you the time. But being able to turn your wrist over to give or check the time is so much more elegant than fishing through your pocket, pulling out your keys, putting them back in, digging out your phone, turning your screen on for a split second, turning it off and then stuffing it back into your pocket.

Your watch doesn't have to be crafted by a master artisan in the Swiss Alps (but that's cool if it is) and it doesn't have to cost more than a small house. You can have a simple Timex for $30 on Amazon with a NATO band that can easily be replaced with another band of any color or pattern you want. This Skagen is wafer-thin and looks at home at the office or out on the town. Prefer an automatic but don't want to break the bank? Bang. You can even get a diver that most people would mistake for a Rolex/much more expensive watch for less than $50.

Wearing a nice watch ties together a wardrobe. It's the cherry on top of a sundae, the salt (or sugar) on the rim of a margarita. So wear one.

I need a watch. A fashion. Sadly, I don't have fashion taste. They all seem cool online but I don't know much about brands or how it'll be. I'm not a fan of thin watches. I prefer battery (quartz?), with metal band...maybe leather. No rope/rubber or whatever some Casio has

Tell us a little more about what you are looking for! From the watches you mentioned, it looks like you want a black watch. Are you looking for something sporty, classy, or just an all around daily? Are you looking for something simple, or something with a lot of complications on the face of the watch? Ill link a few for reference

Seiko 5 I would change the strap to something that appeals more to you if you don't like it. Great starter watch though.

Invicta Pro Diver Ive heard some debate on the quality of these watches, but for your purposes I think it would work well.

Casio G-Shock Solar Sporty solar G Shock similar to the one you linked.

Seiko Solar Another Seiko but this one is on a metal band and is solar powered.

Timex Weekender Another great starter watch that comes in a million color combinations. I got one for my brother as a gift off Amazon for $17 when they were having a sale.

Any chance you'll start carrying 15mm bands? I just broke the band on my Invicta #8932 (... what do you expect for a cheap rolex knockoff) and need to replace it.

Edit: Do your bands also come with watch pins?

Invicta. Legit dive watch, sub $100, my friends that are watch guys have given me compliments on mine, and I always laugh because its so inexpensive.

The invicta posted is pretty good looking, though the carbon fiber and extra dials are just a little busy for my taste.

I would avoid extra dials if possible. Look for something that mimics the simplicity of hugely versatile Rolex Submariner (crazy expensive but beautiful in it's simplicity).

This Invicta is a 3^rd of your budget, so the value is much more accurate. You can buy him some different colored NATO Straps to extend the versatility.

The thing with watches is that between $100-$500 there aren't a whole lot worth the asking price. I would recommend being frugal until you can afford to buy him a watch that will last a lifetime.

This price has been around for a while now on Amazon. I would just buy it there if you have the choice. They would probably have better shipping. Here . Not to be confused with the 8926, the larger model.

Ok, ok, I know you said under $50, but if you stretch your budget just a little more you could get this Invicta Diver watch. It's an automatic which means it has mechanical internals that wind via a sort of pendulum that moves as you swing your arm when you walk. It's also a replica of a rolex design that Sean Connery wore in a Bond movie. 'Nuff said.

I think it's pretty stylish, and though a leather band would be more formal, I think it makes for a good all around watch.

This ^

I’ll add the Casio Duro. It’s just slightly over your budget but highly regarded.

The Invicta Pro Diver has good reviews if you don’t mind a Rolex “homage”.

u/skriefal · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Invicta gets a lot of flack for their pricing strategy. But their 8926 is a good budget choice if you'd consider an automatic (mechanical) watch. Currently $85 from Amazon. There's also a quartz version.

u/foozybear · 1 pointr/Watches

Not exactly small, but this seems to fit the bill, otherwise there's this you can get a strap for it with the money left over. I tried to find a diver's watch because it seems to be what you were looking for. I don't recommend invictica normally, I'm fairly weary of them but your budget is fairly tight but you can check this, out be cautious and do you homework when dealing with invictica. There's also this and that. You may also want to consider this.

EDIT: Added options

u/gunnerbosela · 0 pointsr/Watches

I recommend this watch. http://www.amazon.com/Invicta-Diver-Collection-Stainless-Bracelet/dp/B0006AAS7E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382229112&sr=8-2&keywords=invicta+pro+diver. I own the $80 mechanical movement version and I like it. It looks nice and takes quite a beating. Its survived construction and other dirty/tough jobs. Also its smaller size looks good on skinny wrists like mine.

u/VentedSteak · 0 pointsr/Watches

I think the Seiko 5 is the best option at that price point, but it doesn't meet the size or bracelet requirements... Maybe an Invicta Pro Diver? Invicta generally gets a bad rap around here and most of their designs are garish, but the Pro Diver isn't one of them. An Invicta 8928 was the watch that was my gateway drug to the world of watches, so maybe I'm a little biased.

u/manilamoneyy · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Invicta for 50 bucks. my buddy bought one, it had a clear caseback. I found the bracelet to be flimsy though. Can't complain for $50 imo.
