With prices fluctuating this much, I have no idea if you should wait. PCPartPicker’s trend graphs are good: https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/internal-hard-drive/#storage.0.1000000 It looks like the price may be leveling out around $100.
It was this Kingston drive. It’s out of stock right now but still $100: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079XC5PVV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5KNzCbJWYWSGA

You want an SSD, I dont care if you actually run the game on a literal potato. Plug an ssd into it and fucking profit. It's really easy to install and I put mine in myself with no prior experience in building PCs. 240GB is good enough if you just have a few hard to run games, but I would also recommend installing your OS into a 120GB one on it's own. But that's a bit less idiot proof to do, still easy though.
EDIT: if you're on a laptop, it's still most likely possible to take it apart and shove an ssd into it, but that's not something I know how to do. I just know it's possible.
Even 1TB ones are cheap as hell now; $99 for some of them.

I will try lowering steam's cpu priority
looking to get opinions on if the nvme ssd would be worth the extra money compared to the regular sata (excluding the difference in capacity), and if it would have any benefits in a build focused around gaming and programming, links to the two ssd's for reference...

Your problem is the seagate drive, just buy a enclosure and some kind of SSD or HDD which is not seagate and you’ll be fine

You can try that one. Its 1 TB, so you can just copy your old drive over and then use your old drive as extra storage. You would just need a spare sata cable and to check that you have a sata power connector on your power supply for this to work. I can't be sure from the website if you do.
Well the have I got a deal for you! If $25 for 120GB is decent then $150CAD for 1TB(almost) is a deal!
Turns out it might be legit. Check the amazon sale price.
