LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor with FreeSync to go on sale at 2:02 AM Link

u/wolfej4 · 4 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Bottom monitor

Top monitor

Side monitor is a 24" HP I bought from WalMart.

Stand for the ultrawides is a this one and this one for the side monitor.

I ordered a new desk from Ikea early April but I only got it a week or so ago. It feels like ages but I'm just happy it's all here and it worked like I expected.

Other things:

  • Elgato Stream Deck
  • The Anchor under-desk headphone mount
  • Deathadder Chroma mouse
  • Blackwidow Chroma keyboard
  • Rode microphone stand
  • Blue Yeti Blackout microphone
  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio on the 34" - top right

My desktop is a prebuilt Dell with an i7-4790, but I added an SSD, swapped out the 1TB HDD for a 2TB when it crapped out, and added a GTX 1060.
u/Brightinly_ · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

As long as you understand that some games might not support them ultrawides are pretty dank.

Having all that physical real state vs, say a 4k monitor that has more pixel real state is more noticeable and affects the user experience more imo.

I wanted one of these: LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor with FreeSync https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMES072/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x5zlzb5RY7SG5 for a while, but started hooking my laptop up to my tv instead.

My 42" tv works great and was only like $200.

> Doesn't the upscaling usually not look too great?

2560x1080 on a 2560x1440 display results in no upscaling...though it usually requires:

  1. a custom resolution of 2560x1080
  2. making sure that the scaling is being done on your GPU
  3. that your GPU scaling mode is not set to "fill entire screen"

But indeed, upscaling 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 isn't that great (though I believe AMD's GPU upscaling is actually better than Nvidia's).

That monitor is 2560x1080 rather than 2560x1440, so I'm not sure why you're asking about upscaling...
u/zgh5002 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Top end of your budget. If you want 1440, curved and 34"

Low end of the budget. 1080 but still 34" without curve

Might be cheaper elsewhere though. I'm based in the UK and getting US prices is hit and miss for other sites.

u/UAC_DeltaCompany · 2 pointsr/PS4

My monitor is pretty small, 24 inches. I got it for 300$ on amazon, but I play all my games in native 4K on the PC I built.

The PS4 pro is the only thing that can do anything regarding 4K (which 95% of the time is upscaled, so I don't see the point in spending 1400$+ on an awesome 4K TV to not use it for the main purpose it was built, but that's just my opinion). That being said, even the base PS4 can output 1080p or whatever resolution and just "stretch" it to fit your monitor size. Any monitor can run any resolution below its native resolution.

Now, you said your TV now feels too small. Is that because you are gaming from a couch/far away perspective? Have you tried putting it on a desk and trying to use it like a monitor to see if you feel more comfortable that way?

Here is a link to a good 1080p ultrawide monitor: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UM68-P-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BMES072/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1485982734&sr=8-2&keywords=ultrawide+monitor+34

Its a little bigger than your TV, cheap, and meant to be used "like" a monitor.

The 1080p 34" ones are around $350 and go on sale for $300 or less from time to time:

It’s a 34 inch ultra wide. It's this one specifically if interested: https://amzn.to/2Vi4Meo
For the light you can find a ton of them on Amazon by searching “led light strip”

u/Targetsb · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have this one with the, 3GB Compact Zotac card, and my BF1 experience at 2560X1080 has been very pleasant. All my complaints are aimed at the game itself.

Doesn't the upscaling usually not look too great?

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UM68-P-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BMES072/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1476936536&sr=1-6&keywords=lg+monitors&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A3547808011

$350 is.....maybe worth it. Especially if it can drop on sale to $300. But I didn't want to go this route and simply play games in 1080p because I've been told that upscaling 1080p to 1440p usually doesn't look that great.

u/yazzfloot · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Well, I did a conversion from USD, and this one looks to be within your range: LG 34UM68-P. And I've previously owned that one myself before my very recent upgrade. My wife is now using it and it's pretty damn awesome to start off your ascension into Ultrawide.

u/mynewromantica · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I have been piecing together the office over about 5-6 years with many iterations, including running a business out of the office for a while.

The chair is from autonomous.ai

The desk legs are also from autonomous.ai

The desk top is a countertop from Ikea

Sideboard is from West Elm

Eames lounge copy was purchased on Amazon

Monitor is an LG 34" Ultrawide

Speakers are Peavey WFS-370

Side Table

Wall Shelves

Whiteboard

And you can't see them, but these are in the desk

u/tomhusband · 1 pointr/chromeos

I'm looking at the Asus M004U Chromebox with additional memory and an wide monitor like this one.

Will the Celeron handle multi tabs and maybe a couple of browser sessions open? Will be doing lots of Google Drive word processing, some streaming of Netflix but no gaming. Any issues with the wide monitor or would two smaller ones be better?

Chromeboxes seem to be few and far between. Dell had a real nice one a while back but I guess they stopped building them.

Thanks for any suggestions.

u/LimIsLit · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Shit I did not know that :( Costco has these https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UM68-P-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BMES072/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503878744&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+34+inch+ultrawide+monitor for like $270 so I thought it would be a good monitor, any suggestions on 1080p monitors around that price point?

The newer model 34 um 68 is on Amazon for only 40 bucks more.

u/cdurkinz · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Looks like I skimmed over a few things in your post, like budget and a couple questions.

So you could go with a 3440x1440, and maybe that's a better option because you can always upgrade your GPU later. The GTX 970 at 3440x1440 is probably going to only push 45-60 fps at most with settings lowered quite a bit in most newer games. At your price point something like this would be doable: LG 34"

If you can stretch your budget slightly more you could get a curved one: Dell 34"

Those are both pretty nice but I believe the most they can do is 60Hz, and neither have Gsync. Good luck man!

u/whwatson58 · 1 pointr/buildapc

$299 on Amazon - probably not great for gaming.

u/lordjupi · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Hey sorry for the delayed reply,

I’m unsure how to check all that.

This is the monitor

LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor with FreeSync https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMES072/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_w8o4Ab1H4H9NN

I got it on sale so I’m unsure the quality. I hope it’s alright

As for the architecture programs some use CPU and others use GPU

Any way I can utilize both in this PC ? Budget is flexible if this makes the cost go higher

u/xRehab · 1 pointr/simracing

Think Samsung has a few ultras that are around the ~$500 mark but use Freesync instead.

You can do something like this LG but it's only 2560x1080p for $300 or the 1440p version without Freesync for $550.

It really comes down to what you're willing to spend and what you have to power it. Personally, I wouldn't do ultrawide at anything less than 1440p; I've seen the 1080p ones and while they aren't bad I could never justify the price for them compared to a 100hz+ 1440p monitor.

Go to a Microcenter or Fry's and play with them all a bit, you'll figure out quick if the 1440p makes a big difference for you like it does me. You're entering the territory of tech where there are two routes to go; best bang for the buck and go real cheap or go all out and buy exactly what you want for wayyy more than you should be spending. You've already said you have a 144hz monitor, and I can promise you there is no going back from high framerates, so your only options left are how much bigger do you go? I don't see any benefit to cutting your FPS in half for 2 extra monitors, so to me the only logical route is to go bigger single monitor. So do you go 27" 1440p 16:9 or do you go all the way up to 34" 21:9.

u/Trazac · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You'll be able to use the monitor just fine. It's already been pointed out that you won't be able to game very well on it.

That monitor has low pixel density, though. I would say drop down to something like a 75hz, 3480x1440 monitor if you want a monitor that size. This is what I would choose. That would make your gaming situation maybe a bit worse.

Otherwise I would suggest a 29" 2560x1080 monitor
