I play discreetly at my office, but I'm fortunate to have a computer that faces away from everyone I work with. One thing you can get that could help is a privacy screen for your desktop monitor like this.
I also make sure not to do anything that sounds suspicious, like playing a game where I'm hitting a lot of keys. I even got a silent mouse so my coworkers can't hear how much I'm clicking. And yes, I do still get all my work done! xD

I have been using this mouse for almost a year now, and it hasn't failed me yet, it's very comfortable, and I love how silent it is.
I just got one last month for work. True game changer.

Picked up the Logitech m330 for work the day it came out. Couldn't be happier. Still quiet as a... mouse. Also rather durable. Even the mouse wheel click action is quiet. If you can do without thumb buttons (depends what games you play), it's the best thing since optical mice, IMO.
I've had a lot of success with this Logitech M330 wireless mouse. I liked it so much I bought a second for my travel laptop.
I use the Logitech M330 with my laptop and I think it's great. It's pretty small so I wouldn't reconmmend it for desktop use, but for portability at university its working great for me.
There's the Logitech M330 but it has no side buttons. Otherwise you can try and find an old Logitech M590, which is a silent version of the M585. Neither one is particularly a "gaming" mouse, but they're both wireless so you can keep a gaming mouse connected with the wireless mouse away until you need to use it.
