I had a similar issue. My button was stuck in, and in order to open the device and see what was going on, I needed to order a tri-point screwdriver off of Amazon (Canada).
After fiddling around with the few components in the device, I noticed the rubber piece under the plastic button was off-kilter. All I did was straighten it out, and screw the device back together. Ta-da! Working Pokémon Go Plus unit!

They also make really nice JIS (Japanese Standard like Phillips) drivers which I find are immensely better than standard Phillips drivers.
