Not the person you asked but I have the same nipple protrusion problem. I don't think I'll ever be ok with my nipples poking out. Guys notice I hate the attention and don't like to stand out.

Lou & Grey (also sold at Loft) is made for comfort, lots of soft flowy fabric. I have foot pain and love my clarks for that. I saw a few people mentioned bras, I've had good luck with these reusable non-adhesive nipple covers though I usually wear them with a soft, non-padded bralette.

If cotton liners are not your thing, not removing the cover on the sticky part of the adhesive nipple covers might also work.
I have a (sticky) Nu-Bra that I use to even out my asymetry, I never took off the cover and it works.

Sometimes I will give them a quick spritz with a small spray bottle so they adhere better. They've never fallen off, but the initial adhesion can be tough if your skin is dry and/or it's super cold.

They are silicone and manage to stick to your skin without any adhesive. I am not sure if a ring would interfere with this sticking process at all, but I would think they would still work. Let me know if you end up trying them because I've considered getting this piercing.

They stay on incredibly well (for me) as long as I'm wearing a fairly tight fitting top. I have had one fall off twice in the year I've had them, both times I was sweating a lot, wearing a loose top, and bending over a lot (gardening).

And the seams never seem to align for me. Le sigh.
I wear these, the non-adhesive kind, once in a while. They work okay, great for when you just don't want to strap/bind your chest. They just need a bit of a wash after every few uses. I've had mine for a year and a half.
