If you want to explore a little bit, I recommend stopping by us in /r/flashlight.

If you don't feel like going down the rabbit hole of spending thousands of dollars on lights and having to go to the rehab because of it, here are a few tips:

1) Fucking Nitecore Tube. The best everyday carry light you can ask for. Probably brighter than your multi-LED light (Always go for single LED, unless you buy a light for like $400).

2) Olight S1/S1R/S mini. These are the smallest flashlights that use a CR123 or RCR123 batteries. Now you are entering the world of big boy lights. The batteries are lithium based, the max output is around 500 lumes, and you can get them in various materials, like titanium, copper or stainless steel.

PS: The S mini is more powerful and smaller than the S1, but also more expensive. The S1R can be charged by a USB cable.

3) ARMYTEK WIZARD PRO. Many consider this light as one of the best for normal use. It uses 18650 class batteries which are the most popular among quality flashlights (The same as the ecig vaporizers use). A cheaper variant would be Olight H1 nova, a more expensive variant would be a ZebraLight H600F MKII.

4) CHARGER! If you want to use any of these light just for everyday/hiking/emergency use (Not hobby). You will need just one charger. Either a Nitecore F1 if you don't want to charge your standard NiMh batteries. Or Nitecore i2, which charges almost anything, lol.

Nitecore F1: https://www.amazon.com/Bundle-Nitecore-Battery-Charger-Compatible/dp/B01FM9UQDE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484735901&sr=8-1&keywords=nitecore+F1

Nitecore i2: https://www.amazon.com/NiteCore-i2-V2014-Universal-Intelligent-Batteries-Compatible/dp/B009JMDD9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484735922&sr=8-1&keywords=nitecore+i2

5) Batteries. There are lots of manufacturers, but if you stick to the big ones like panasonic or sanyo, you are OK. Also brands that make lights like Nitecore, Olight, etc. are always a safe bet.

Happy light hunting!

I hate carrying things, so this is about my maximum daily carry. In the picture is:

Dosh Aero Wallet

Keyport Slide 2.0

One Plus 2 with an OtterBox case.

Olight S1 Baton

Cold Steel Micro Recon 1

Nite Ize S-Biner TagLock

I've had the Dosh Aero Wallet for about 3 or 4 years now and I love it. When it gets dirty I just scrub it with dish soap and it comes out looking brand new. I do that about every year now, so three times total. It has six card slots and a money clip, down from my old leather wallets with a giant stack of cards and other assorted junk. This forces me to keep it small.

The Keyport holds my two house keys for different doors, a car key, a 32 gb SD card, a pen and a bottle opener. Sadly I cant find someone to program my Evo's key into the side chip so that stays attached :(. Otherwise, I love the keyport. It's an outstanding piece of kit and it's been highly abused by me and held up to it all. It was expensive but it's a hell of a lot better than carrying 3 large keys, a flash drive, can opener and pen all on their own. If it ever breaks, I'll be buying another.

The S1 Baton is just stupidly bright for such a tiny flashlight, so that was a no brainer to me, as was the Recon 1. The magnetic tailcap on the Baton is incredible. I'm a bit of a car guy so I've been able to use it to light tough to see areas of my engine bay when doing work. I also loved my full sized Recon 1 from my first two deployments, so I recently snagged one to put on the keychain. It's stupidly sharp and extremely small.

To answer your question, there's no chant. But you should test your flashlight. Fully charge the battery, then blast it on turbo until the battery is drained. Make sure it works.

I remember once I put an Olight 16340 protected battery into an Olight S1 Baton XM-L2, and turbo mode tripped the protection circuit early. I had to switch to a different 16340.

Olight S1

Powerful little light, small enough I carrry it all day everyday and doesn't get in the way. I use rechargable CR123 batteries and carry a spare CR123 in my car just in case. Great light, well worth it IMO.

I recommend against carrying an Olight S1R on a keychain because you might short it out, which would be a big problem in your pocket.

The S1 Baton would be a good alternative (it doesn't have the recharging tailcap so there's no chance of it shorting). I've compared the difference in brightness between an S1 and an S1R and it's negligible. You can't tell unless you have the lights right next to each other shining in the same spot.

The S1 Baton Mini would be an even better option. It's absolutely miniscule, particularly if you remove the pocket clip. The battery and a charging cable are included in the box as well. I'd opt for the slightly dimmer high CRI version over the brighter low CRI version.
