I live in New England and would say that the weather, especially this time of year, is pretty unpredictable. Even when it's warm during the day, it cools off significantly in the evening. I'd go for a solid knee or mid-calf length dress and definitely get a wrap or shawl of sorts for the evening.

I found these on Eloquii that I think would be appropriate (I also jump at the opportunity to wear a green or red dress, so this is definitely part personal preference):

And something like this for a wrap for the evening: https://www.amazon.com/Pashmina-Shawls-Wraps-Scarfs-Fashion/dp/B076HBQ279?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_6 (but you may want to look for a thicker material, it hasn't been getting above 60 degrees where I am for the last couple of weeks).
