I made one of these once. It's actually pretty simple straightforward.

Just find yourself an old-school Dell monitor, pop the plastic case off the front, then strip off the polarizing layer. Since there's glass underneath, you can just use a utility knife around the edges and peel it off. Once that's gone, the monitor will look like the one in the gif - all white.

Then snag yourself a pair of 3D glasses from the movies, remove the lenses they already have (those ones are the wrong angle), buy some cheap polarized film to make new lenses, and you're all set. Just make sure you have the film aligned to the screen before you cut it.

Edit: My highest rated comment ever. Sweet.

> Only thing is I've yet to find cheap polarization sheets/film to make glasses out of.

I just typed "polarizer sheets" into google and there's tons of cheap stuff.

You could buy a sheet of polarizing film and tape/glue two layers in the opposite direction over it to make it dark

What it will do is filter reflections off of the glass. It has to do with light waving in one plane and vectors and shit. I would buy a polarizing sheet (e.g. here) and fashion some kind of attachment. The thing is it changes when you rotate the film, so you might need to rotate it on the lens. Here is some more info on polarizers.

I'm confused. When you hover over it, it does not start with smile but when you click on it, you end up with smile at the start:

hover link: http://www . amzsmile. com/?product=Polarizing-Film-Sheet-Gadget-Electronics/dp/B004X3XFHU/

link once you click through: smile. amazon. com/Polarizing-Film-Sheet-Gadget-Electronics/dp/B004X3XFHU/?tag=amzsmile-20

So how is it not sending you to amazon smile? and is the affiliate tag "tag=amzsmile-20"?

Idk, try this Polarizing Film Sheet - set of 10, Model: 93493, Gadget & Electronics Store https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004X3XFHU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_e96KybRATJ272

Is there a white balance setting?

Would you consider moving your ring over to the other side of the door?

You could try putting some lights in the Corredor to brighten it up to the same level as outside. I don't know just some ideas

Honestly, I doubt you can do what you want without getting rather specialized. The reason the box in this photo is so big is it puts the shadow screen much further away from light source. This distance and relative size increase make the shadows much more precise. You won't be able to shrink the shadow screen without losing resolution of the shadow.

Edit: Don't let me dissuade you from trying! Try some of the other suggestions, lace etc. It may produce a workable solution but don't be disappointed with the results. Keep in mind this photo is of a very specifically designed and engineered art installation and will be hard to match without the same engineering.

I wonder if you could use a [polarizing screen] (http://www.amazon.com/Polarizing-Film-Sheet-Gadget-Electronics/dp/B004X3XFHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459349734&sr=8-1&keywords=polarized+sheet) just inside the shadow screen to help produce directional light and greatly increase the shadow resolution.

I'd be curious on how just buying a polarized plastic sheet and taping it it on would work.

Example, but you could probably find better/cheaper:
