Thanks for scraping this up to make your kids happy. Video games are one of the best pass times in the world, and I may not have ever became a programmer, had my dad not gotten me into video games. While the up-front expense is high, the hours-per-dollar of entertainment is only surpassed by books.
I could suggest tons of things to make the experience better, but you're already dropping around $300 on a console. Right out of the box, you'll be able to download free games from the eShop (like Fortnite, and soon brawlhalla. Look around that section), but I HIGHLY recommend you get a 2nd controller, so they don't have to share when the switch is stationary and a few games like Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8, and the new Mario Party game (whenever it comes out)
If your kids will take the switch around, I'd recommend getting a case, and a 3rd party dock that can work with the case on.. and later down the line I'd recommend trying to find a MicroSD card to slot into it. You may have one lying around, but if you don't, you can check out these
They claim to be officially licensed.
I mean, between the PowerA controller and the Hori controller, there are already cheap alternatives.
That said; the Gamecube Controller adapter for Wii U is already compatible with the Switch. I wouldn't be surprised if they rebranded it as the Gamecube Controller Adapter for Switch and rereleased it alongside another series of Smash themed Gamecube controllers.
Honestly, my concern is a single-joycon focus affecting gameplay.
$27, wired, no rumble, no gyro, no Amiibo.
$30, wired, no rumble, no gyro, no amiibo.
$43, wireless, no rumble, no gryo, no amiibo, also out of production so if these look good hop on them before the go up in price.
$50, its replacement! wireless, no amiibo. Gryo and Rumble!
I bought this and love it. No motion sensors, and no amiibo support. But so what?

I definitely recommend this controller, there’s also a Mario themed version if that’s more your style.
I recently bought this. Perfect price point and works great. Doesn't say pro though
What's the difference between this PowerA wired controller and this same controller *plus*

From what I saw in the box it's just the extra controller caps and 2 extra feet on the cable, but wanted to know if that was it

(I mean call it plus just for the caps?)
I have a couple of these and I love them. Wired switch controllers. They don’t have rumble, but they’re cheap, and they have an official Nintendo d-pad. I use them for everything from NES, to N64/PlayStation. And have had no problems.
There are cheaper options:

Keep in mind these may not have all of the features of the Pro Controller, but they will work fine for Minecraft.
I think you can also get something to connect multiple other controllers to the Switch, but I don't know if it works.
Hadn't thought to do that. I was basing this skin design on this controller by

Don't buy Wired Controller PLUS for Nintendo Switch if you want to keep all features.
I'd recommend you to avoid any of these below...

They don't have HD rumble, amillbo reader, and motion control. Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (wireless Pro, not wired Plus) have all features. Buy Pro, not Plus.
Pro is wireless, Plus is wired.
I have it. It's not really natural, the buttons feel far away from each other. The other officially licensed one has oddly large control sticks. The pro is the best out of the bunch

Looks like that one has the same pitfalls.

theres this thing too. (.com) https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Wired-Controller-Zelda-Breath/dp/B075DQ13SR
I have a first party pro controller and love it, my roommate has a third party wired one and he uses it all the time with no issues. I you are ok with a wire go for that as a cheaper option. I linked the one my roommate has

Hi! I want to get a Switch but have 2 questions:
https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Controller-Plus-Nintendo-Switch-Breath/dp/B075DQ13SR?th=1&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Controller-Plus-Nintendo-Switch-Breath/dp/B075DNGDWM?th=1&psc=1
I like the Breath of the Wild one better, but that's not the main game I am getting for the Switch... so which one? I personally can't decide in these kinds of things. I have no skills related to "how to tell which one's better?" Please help me decide. This is an expensive decision, I want to buy it first time without regrets.
A long while ago I bought two pro controllers (these ones :https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Nintendo-Switch-Wired-Controller-Plus/dp/B075DQ13SR)
but I've been experiencing downwards drift with them after playing smash ultimate perhaps a little too much.
I was wondering if anybody has ever fixed these type of controllers and what method they used since most other tutorials online use the normal wireless.I'm just unsure if there's a difference between the wired and wireless ones. Thanks in advance.
Any idea if this wired controller would work while the switch isnt docked? I can get it for £30 new at Game instead of Amazon which is half the price of the pro controller
Yes, that's while on XInput. It's a Zelda BotW themed controller. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Nintendo-Switch-Wired-Controller-Plus/dp/B075DQ13SR?crid=1Z29P6FP07XIN&keywords=powera%2Bcontroller&qid=1537710537&sprefix=powera%2Bcon&sr=8-5&ref=mp_s_a_1_5&th=1&psc=1
This Zelda botw one.
i dont understand, why not just get the $30 zelda/mario controllers if you are trying to save money?
Hi brethren, I just bought a new controller for my switch and I want to use it on my PC because it's the bomb dot com. This is the controller
https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Controller-Plus-Breath-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B075DQ13SR
A third party controller, but it works beautifully. I plugged it into my PC and it installed some driver, but my PC still does not receive inputs from it. Tried looking up a way to use this specific controller on my PC and no results. Can anyone help?
Yeah I gave up on using the joycons real quick, I felt like I was going to tear them apart. I finished the whole game on one of these, it was way more comfortable but still not ideal. I'd say at least 50% of my deaths were from dashing horizontally or vertically when trying to go diagonally.
The first 6 listed are from Power A, the last 2 are PDP.
